I made a last minute birthday reservation and we were so glad we chose Tortoise! They had a birthday card waiting at the table and our waitress acknowledged the occasion when we were seated. We felt instantly at home in the cozy dining room! We had the seafood medly for an appetizer and it was delicious! I'd highly recommend starting with it...so much flavor! We loved our main entrees (steak / salmon). For dessert we were pleasantly surprised to pick out a sweet on the house. We decided on a generous slice of cherry pie with ice cream. Our waitress was so knowlegable about the entire menu and details about the restaurant's background. We had an early dinner because we had a show to see and when we came back to retrieve our car (also, free valet if you show your theatre tickets) it was super lively with the jazz band playing. We had a wonderful time and will definitely return! We learned the menu is always changing which is a really awesome because they design their menu seasonally. True craftsmanship that shows through the entire experience.

he Place Tortoise Supper Club is located at 350 N State Street, Chicago, IL. It features traditional American offerings served in an upscale space featuring a grand piano, classy jazz music, full bar, plush seating & fireplace. The Menu We were at The Tortoise Club for lunch. Great menu to many entrees to mention, but it's Chicago Restaurant Week, and who cares a three-course lunch is merely $22 and a great Martini's is only $6. Is this heaven or what? Who needs anything but a martini for an appetizer. We opened our meal with a full bodied and wonderful bowl or pea soup. This wasn't your typical pea soup by any stretch. The salads were very good as well. We had a couple entrees first was White Fish, Herb Crusted, Roasted Tomato, Grilled Artichoke, Olive, Couscous and an entree of Ahi Tuna all were Excellent!! Dessert well who could resist tortoise pie, a signature dessert of chocolate, walnuts, whipped cream and bourbon-caramel sauce. Amazing! We also had an order of Rosé Sorbet, Always good. The Service/Experience/Value Our service was very good! Lunch in under an hour is excellent. The value, given it was restaurant week, was outstanding. Warm inviting place busy but not crazy with a great atmosphere. Highly recommend!!!

Exactly what you would imagine when walking into a Chicago “Supper Club”! Old school awesome with a great staff and wonderful live jazz! Food was fabulous and they have amazing happy hour deals to boot ($1 Shrimp & Oysters)! I highly recommend them for a jazzy, retro, “Rat Pack cool” kind of place with phenomenal food & service!

Where do I start? The soup of the day was Artichoke Crab... AMAZING! My son had the Crab & Avacado salad. We both tasted each other's & I must say the layers of flavor explode in your mouth. We both had the Filet, which was cooked to perfection, the potatoes & carrot were divine. Our server was impeccable & made suggestions as we slowly ordered & ended the meal with 2 small scoops of homemade ice cream. I can't wait to go back again! The plaid walls & phenomenal jazz music made the whole "Supper Club" experience unforgettable😊

This was the second time we visited the Tortoise Supper Club. Still the best food and atmosphere. I happened to have had steak filet salad at Smith & Wolensky's for lunch and the Tortoise filet for dinner. Hands down, Tortoise had the most flavorful, tenderest meat. The meal is always delicious. i enjoyed the server's wine recommendation and the service was superb.

Excellent dinner and ambiance celebrating my wifes birthday. Ordered the Blue Cheese dip with fresh granny smith apples and fresh baked raisin bread for dipping for appitizer. My wife had the Filet and I ordered the Prime Rib Saturday special. Mistakenly my waiter thought I requested the daily special and I was given an Elk Filet. Since I haven't been to this restaurant before I thought it didn't look like Prime Rib but took a bite to make sure. After realizing I had the wrong item the waiter offered either to have it replaced or offered free drinks if I decided to keep it. I did want the prime rib and they happily replaced it amd the owner hand delivered the entree in less than five mins. It was one of the best prime rib dinners I ever had. I was suprised at the time the bill came that the Elk which was taken off the bill actually cost about $65 much more than the prime rib and I hooe that the waiter wasn't made to pay for the easy mistake. My wife also ordered the key lime pie and the put a candle in it for her birthday whuch was nice. I will definitely be back if I'm in the River North area again fir dinner or just drinks with the live jazz. Kudos five stars !!!!!

First time visitor last night. What a great surprise. Cozy dark wood dining room and a lively jazz bar greeted us. Even thought the place was packed the service was prompt and friendly. As Schwarzenegger says, “I’ll be back!”

Ambiance was warm and welcoming, food was exceptional and waitstaff outstanding. As a native New Englander I’m rather particular about seafood. I was more than impressed with their scallops and asparagus. Bravo! Lemon drop martinis were perfectly balanced. A new favorite place to dine.

We certainly enjoyed our meal last weekend. The service and music were excellent, as well. This restaurant should be on your Chicago to-do list. We had dinner at The Signature Room the same weekend. If the Tortoise had the same view...😋

Possibly our new favorite restaurant. This is a very special place. It seems there are a lot of regulars here , which is a good sign. The atmosphere couldn't be better. Love the low lit dining room and the chandeliers. Linda wa our faithful server a made our first time here very special. Thanks Linda! Second visit Tuesday 12-5. Catherine was our quick witted server who had us laughing within seconds of meeting her. She made the night for us. The menu is really great and unique, with old school items that we love. This restaurant/Jazz club/supper club has something that most other restaurants don't have. It's difficult to pinpoint it but it's something that is great and special and different.... Kinda magical. The experience is very exceptional and makes my wife and I feel very happy. It is officially our favorite restaurant in Chicago. Third visit and our server, Jorge, was a delight! Quick witted and never missing a beat. We sat in the Red room this time. This restaurant never ceases to amaze my wife and I. Thank you for such a an amazing and consistent wonderful experience!

Moved to Chicago earlier this year and immediately started "researching" restaurants to dine at for my birthday for later on this year. Unfortunately, several of the restaurants weren't taking reservations until at least 30-60 days ahead, but when I came across the TSC I was intrigued. I was able to make the reservation in August even though the celebration wasn't until December. Why I made it so early was because my birthday falls during busiest time of the year with holiday/work parties and reservations fill up. When I did make the reservation the management of TSC were EXTREMELY accommodating. I wanted to order everything on the menu, everything looked delicious! I went with the Pan Seared Scallops (so happy I did!!) and I wasn't 100% sure I would like the green pea risotto so our server (Sergio) suggested I could substitute it with something else and I did with the mashed potatoes (omg they were delicious!!) Our party (there were 5 of us) even brought our own cake (the restaurant has a $4 cutting fee per person), and even though we knew about the charge beforehand, our server was so sweet, he knocked it off our bill completely! He was a hoot, loved his personality! They even had an operetta singer come over and sing me happy birthday!! I gotta say the Tortoise Supper Club is definitely in my TOP 5 favorite restaurants in the city - and I have tried about 30 of them since I moved here. It was a memorable evening, and we all enjoyed ourselves immensely! I will DEFINITELY be back!! Thank you!!

Been here a handful of times and the food is always delicious. I usually get the sea scallops and risotto or a filet. The steaks are melt in your mouth and the mashed potatoes are so creamy. Service is always attentive. The atmosphere is romantic for a date. Would recommend for a nice night out!

What an incredible dining experience. From the moment you enter to the last bite you are in for a treat. The service is spectacular. Our water (I don't think his name is Larry but he looks and sounds like a Larry) was brilliant. The food was amazing. I had the prime rib and savored every bite.

Food was great but the service and atmosphere were even better. It felt like a swanky jazz club with leather seating and all. Our server was playful and enthusiastic and did not hesitate to bring us dessert for our anniversary celebration. All the dishes were good, not mind blowing, but as expected it was just a overall very nice dinner. - The complimentary cheese bread had a very nice texture and tasted like an elevated garlic cheese bread. - Oysters were large and very fresh, wish we ordered more - Calamari was standard, wish it was a little crispier but it had a nice little tingly spice - Eggplant pizette was also flavorful though much smaller than expected - Wellington was perfectly made and would definitely order this again - Tortoise pie was the perfect way to end the night Make sure to rub the tortise for good luck!

Service was outstanding (I believe we had Madison). She was attentive, personable, and made great recommendations. We had the prime rib, sea bass, asparagus, mac & cheese, tortoise pie, pinot noir, and southside cocktail. Everything was delicious. We really appreciated that they were able to split the entrees into two separate portions so we could share. The live jazz music made the night even more amazing.

This was a 10/10 dining experience! The server was great! Friendly, social, quick service, and her recommended appetizers, drinks, and desserts were all so delicious! The atmosphere was amazing, the food even better, and the feeling of being well taken care of was the icing on the cake. I’ve already made two more reservations to return, and I highly recommend this restaurant.

We were walking along the Riverwalk, and happened along this beautiful gem of a supper club. We walked in and met the special events manager Kelli V. who not only assisted us in securing our reservations, but also gave us recommendations for other fun spots! Chantay (sp?) is a phenomenal mixologist and we greatly enjoyed the live jazz!

I had the most pleasant time at Tortoise Supper Club, and I highly recommend coming in on Jazz night which is an absolute blast. We had excellent service from Luke, who is a veteran at the restaurant. Oysters were nice from the east coast, and their signature bread is one of the best in the city. The atmosphere was dark, but still well lit giving an intimate setting. Ask to sit in their Red Room for a little extra privacy and exclusivity. Their entrees are my favorite, and the Chilean Sea Bass is very flavorful. Also incredible cocktails that have unique tastes and even have history lessons under the name and ingredients. Overall, great date night spot, and love the feeling of a crossover between New Orleans and New York City restaurant.

Went to the Tortoise as a culmination to our week celebrating our anniversary. Made reservations for an early dinner and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the the food and cocktails . The best was the steak with the cognac peppercorn sauce. Their dirty martini was tasty as well as their Manhattan.

So happy I saw this place on Instagram and tried it. The food was crazy good the server was on the ball we had no issues and enjoyed our meal so much. For example I hateeeeeee fish and my friends convinced me to take a bite of the tuna steak appetizer and I actually really liked it. The only thing that was disappointing to me was the Mac and cheese side but I’d really recommend the mash potato!

Atmosphere atmosphere atmosphere! I love the supper clubs in Milwaukee and Los Angeles but Tortoise captures the chic elegance and terrific food coupled with a community feel perfectly. The wait staff left some to be desired, but the prime rib and the grasshopper drink were excellent.
