Mama T is funny and sassy and very passionate about her food. I got her sampler and it was wonderful. I loved her food style. There's a definite theme to this food, and that theme is simple goodness. She lets the meat really talk. Sides were light and homemade. Try the habanero and Trinidad scorpion pepper sauce. It's tasty and will give you a new appreciation of the inner dimensions of your mouth. Lol!
You should definitely make the stop here. You won't regret it!
Delightful staff and delicious food!!!! Family shows on tv only! Christian music overhead.... just great! As you can see we cleaned our plates in record time!
What a nice surprise!! Ribs were moist and really good. The baked beans were amazing and the mild BBQ sauce was perfectly sweet. Small local perfect place with great food. Oh, and super friendly.
I’m something of a barbecue nerd. Anywhere I go, I look for good smoked meat made by people (usually men) with skill, good spice rubs, and good sauce (that last one is optional; more on that in a minute). On our trip from Birmingham to Albuquerque, my wife and I got off I-40 looking for a Pizza Hut, but turned left instead of right. We Googled Momma T’s when we went by on our way to the Phillips 66 station, and the reviews spoke for themselves, so we decided pizza could wait.
The owner (whose name I never got but identified herself as “Momma T” when we asked if she was the namesake) was friendly, happy, and busy, but made us feel right at home. Like most great barbecue joints, the decor was spare (it’s in an old truck repair shop), but we weren’t looking for ambience. So we each ordered the sampler (every meat and 2 sides— I ordered Mac and cheese and baked beans), and she also brought us a really spicy sauce (habanero and Trinidad scorpion pepper sauce, I believe) to try.
Her meats were seasoned only enough for the seasonings to let the meat speak. Everything was perfect in terms of texture and flavor, including the smoked chicken breast, which is usually my least-favorite cut on the bird because it doesn’t usually taste like much. The stars of the show were the rib, pulled pork, hot links, and smoked sausage. But seeing smoked bologna on a menu made me very happy.
If you’re looking for sauces and seasonings that overwhelm the meat, this isn’t the place for you. Sauce is often used, in my experience, to hide mediocre barbecue. But if you’re willing to try good, house-smoked meat that speaks for itself, you really need to stop here. This is certainly my favorite barbecue joint west of the Mississippi, and one of the best barbecue joints I’ve been to.
Oh, and the banana pudding doesn’t suck. Try that too.
They make you feel right at home. So much food for extremely good prices. You can tell a lot of love goes into their bbq. Their brisket has me sold. I also suggest the triple x bbq sauce.
Great surprise fnd on our roadtrip with our twin boys. They LOVED the grilled cheese and loaded potatoe salad We loved the brisket and special extra hot house made bbq sauce (they have a nice non hot version as well). Baked beans and cole slaw were other highlights All the staff were super nice and welcoming.
The food is the best around. I buy sandwiches there twice to three times a week if I don't just go in and buy it by the pound. The briskets or the chopped will both melt in your mouth.
