My family lives in C'ville. They think I come to visit them. I really come for the Maya bar and the Taj. :) Great treat to enjoy a coffee and a chocolate in the retail space.
The closest to fine Belgian chocolate I have found in the US so far, plus their prices are the lowest I know in town (Charlottesville, VA), lovely cakes, lots of wonderful flavours, and staff is just mega nice. As a life-long chocolate lover, I recommend.
The Brown Sugar Pecan Toffee is incredible. I am a toffee fanatic and this is the best I’ve had hands down. I grew up with a pecan tree in the back yard, and the pecans in this toffee taste like those pecans! Well done.
We live in MI, and my brother and family live in Charrolettesville VA, they have had you ship chocolates to us before and they were fantastic and your packing was spot on!! Well the brother and sister in law were here for Christmas and brought your "flourless chocolate cake" I kid you not, IT IS TO DIE FOR!!!!!! I might have to be making a trip to you! We received a gift box of chocolates via mail, they were so fabulous that we ordered them as thank you gifts for our clients!
I stopped into the new location; love it! The mint Julip chocolate and a sea salt caramel were delicious!

Thank you Tim Gearhartschocolates for your passion ... we're "meeting" you for the first time with an Arcady Vineyard port pairing ... enjoying Taj (chocolate Grenache with candied ginger, cardamom and rose) and Apricot-Brandy (milk and white chocolate with dried apricots soaked in French cognac). My brain says go to the gym, my tastebuds say to wine with my mouth full looks like gears and heart are shifting perfectly in sync!

Congratulations Tim for having your exquisite chocolates selected to serve to President Holland at the Vice President Biden hosted lunch at the US State Department. I'm certain the French President was thinking "Bon dieu, qu'ils sont magnigiques!"
Omg, a little slice of heaven. This shop has everything for chocolate lovers, even great gluten free and dairy free options for those with food allergies. The staff takes this to another level with their personality and extensive knowledge of the sweet products on display! A great addition to Charlottesville.

I live in Richmond, so when I buy Gearharts for myself, I go to their shop on Libbie in Richmond, which is presumably equally yummy and delightful. But mostly I order online as a gift for someone I'm trying to impress. People I'm trying to impress say Gearharts is the best. I love it too, but theirs is the opinion that really matters. Anyhow, people who matter adore Gearharts. I order a selection of all the dark truffles. If you try to be more precise, be my guest, but the selections are rare and distinctive, so if you haven't tried it before, you maybe can't understand what it's like in real life. So if you haven't been to the shop in person, you probably want to order a selection. The website isn't optimal, but the service is great if there is a problem and you explain the situation. If there is a problem, typically, either it's that the website didn't give you the option of specifying the shipping date. If you order for Valentine's Day, that's not an issue. But for a birthday or anniversary, you need to TELL THEM the date for shipment. Also, I didn't see an option for a gift card/inscription. This is absolutely not a problem. You just need to email them to explain the situation and they will fix it.
Excellent chocolate shop. Not cheap but truly fine chocolates. People are very friendly and helpful.

Neat place with delicious, handmade chocolate! You can watch the chocolate being made Mon-Fri, 10-4. I noticed that you can have wine and chocolate get-together or bridal showers at Gearharts. I included some information from the brochure.

New location is better in every way than the last except one. And that's the location itself. Hard to walk by here while on a casual stroll. But it has much easier parking.
