Everything I've tried here has been delicious, and tasted just as I remembered it in Korea. Prices are reasonable for the food quality, but I would like to see actual silverware chopsticks. Unfortunately, this restaurant gives you cheap disposable bamboo chopsticks that are more suited to a take-out establishment. Also, they hire college students to work here who don't speak Korean. This was a bit of a problem with some other Korean guests in the restaurant who attempted to communicate with their server and got "Sorry I don't speak Korean." The food and decor make this place worth the trip.
The inside was nice and clean and the service satisfactory. They were attentive and quick. The food was fantastic! All the many side dishes customary to Korean food were included and the meat was tender and flavorful. The main dishes are huge and one will easily feed 2-3 people. Will definitely be going back there!
I have been hoping for a decent Korean restaurant around Charlotte since I moved here over 10 years ago... Finally, there is one! I have been a regular at Cho Won Garden since I first went a year ago. It's the only Korean BBQ place I've tried around here that's even comparable to the ones out in the San Francisco area I have frequented in the past.
Cho Won has a great ambiance, tasteful Asian decor (lots of wooden accents), spacious seating, a separate bar area, and even a nice view of the clean kitchen through a long picture window. The staff all seem so personable and accommodating.
If you're new to Korean BBQ, I suggest dining at one of the BBQ tables (where they will cook for you), and having either the Kalbi (BBQ short ribs), or Bulgogi (BBQ beef in a sweet/soy sauce based marinade). If you're feeling more adventurous, try the Pork Bulgogi BBQ, which is in a spicy marinade. Not in the mood for BBQ- try the Bi Bim Bop (a flavorful bowl mix of rice, veggies, bulgogi, hot sauce and topped with an egg).
I could eat there daily!
I remember going a while ago, when it was still open, and it was yummy~ As far as I have seen, this was the only KBBQ that you could go to in Charlotte where you can cook the food at your table. I am really going to miss it....
Perhaps the best and most authentic Korean foods in Charlotte, as closed as you can get without going to Seoul.
Great tasting food and excellent service!
Authentic, delicious, and well priced
