This place keeps you coming back with the best authentic Jamaican & Caribbean eats! The jerk / stew / curry chicken here is a local stable.
$5.50 lunch special is a choice of meat with two sides + can soda might be the best deal in town. If you can’t choose, just get two lunch specials and you will leave happy.

This is one of my go to Island restaurants in the city. They give you nice portions and the prices are fair. The owner is always super nice and takes care of her customers.

I have gotten food from this wonderful little gem many times and it is the best every time. Even my boyfriend who has never had west Indian food before loves it. My mom who is a vegetarian loves it. Anytime u want west Indian home cooking or you want a product that you can't find from back home this is the place to go

Amazing people working here. Especially the owner she never let you feel uncomfortable. There space is tight but just right to have all of the right Items from the Islands. BEST place to buy your oxtail meat and even with inflation everywhere they keep it reasonable. Thank you for being in our city and serving the community.

I love Island Grocery lived here for almost 5yrs and just finding out about this Jamaican restaurant. They have the best food love the beans n rice, plantains, coco bread, yams, just all of it!! They even have a lunch special (stops at 1pm) but with it you get a can soda for free. Ms. Carolyn is sweet and she’s also very funny. Let’s not forget all the island grocery you want and need. Next time your out and on the east side of Charlotte come try Island Grocery you will fall in love with this “at home” Jamaican spot.

Island Grocery is a bonafide gem tucked away innocuously in an East Charlotte strip mall next to a pawn shop. Nothing about this place reads"restaurant" not even the name. And, while there's a veritable treasure trove of authentic Jamaican and Caribbean foodstuffs on hand, the real star is the food. My favorite is the curried goat, so tender it melts in your mouth (mind the bones of course) and so flavorful it needs no accompaniment. (Get the beans and rice and the collard greens and you're in for a meal you're not soon to forget!) It can be a bit pricey but every penny is served right back in taste, trust me. This place gets 4 out of five stars based on food quality and variety of wares. It loses a point for ambience and seating. Even using the rest room there is off limits (which was a real problem for me on one unfortunate visit.) But, overall, pay them a visit, peruse the aisles (it's very small, bodega sized) and then buy yourself a meal. I take mine to go.

I had a party at home and they catered the curry goat and jerk chicken. It was absolutely delicious! Got many compliments from the guests. Will definitely be using them again whenever I can and will recommend their authentic Jamaican cuisine! Well done !

This place is the best! Stock up on your Jamaican goods and check out the kitchen they got. Some authentic curry, jerk, escovitch, brown stew, oxtails… among other things. Patties to die for.

I love this place. Good curry chicken, beef pattis, and good food. It's where I go to get my Blue Mountain Curry powder.
Update: On my visit on 8/31/2022 they do not have any curry chicken or beef patties in the frozen section and they do not know when they will be getting more. They do have beef patties that you can get hot to go.

The food is excellent. And for the price it is also excellent. They give you enough to last u. And they have a good variety or assortments for those that are interested. I rate them a strong 9

I came from Raleigh and decided to stop by. I got 3 patties: a beef, chicken curry, and vegetable. The vegetable was moist and super flavorful. The beef tasted like every other beef patty I've had but better in everyway. The chicken curry was seasoned amazingly with really soft chicken and the perfect amount of chicken curry inside. All of them were heckin flakey. 10 out of 10 patties. I wish I got the jerk chicken patty but they were out. Everyone at the counter was extremely nice as well.

Great Jamaican food at great prices! Lots of herbs and products used in the West Indies. A friend of mine in Dominica sent over a box of things to me native to the island. Was happy to find many of those products here. Staff is really nice and professional as well.

Love this store! Brings back all the memories of my childhood and my mother. They have a wide variety of spices, dried goods, frozen food and pantry supplies. Prices are reasonable, especially for items you may not be able find easily in stores. The homemade cooked food is fantastic! I cannot leave without a Pattie and coca 🍞 bread!

This is the best Jamaican cuisine that I’ve ever had in the 22 years that I’ve lived in Charlotte!!!! Hearty portions, deliciously prepared with all the beautiful flavors of the Caribbean islands. I will be ordering from them OFTEN!😋😋😋👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

🇯🇲 food. Jamaican market. My wife is from the islands. She loves this place because the food reminds her of home. Market for spices, bun, goat, oxtail, plantain, etc. Restaurant carryout for Jamaican favorites, that's authentic. Not much to look at with a small foot print. But if your in to island food you will not be disappointed.

I trust that anytime I'm looking for something from the West Indies that I could not find elsewhere in Charlotte I will find it here. I had been craving Hardo bread for a while for whatever reason and bought that and a spice bun loaf. I must say the bun was not as moist and tasty as it was back when I was a youth, however, it has nothing to do with the business itself which I believe is A1! Always a pleasure when I do stop in. Lastly, did unu know that D&G now makes a pineapple ginger soda now??? Yum! I am a loooong time ginger beer lover.. I swear it has the best kick! Ooooweee

This place is GREAT for GROCERIES but they haven't got the restaurant thing down just yet. Seasonings are lacking even in the rice.
