Review Doan's Vietnamese Cuisine - Charlotte

Nancy Tran
I’m Vietnamese & grew up eating a lot of Vietnamese food. I’m thrilled to report that this is the most authentic Vietnamese restaurant I’ve found in Charlotte so far!!! You can smell the amazingness the moment you walk through the door. The spring rolls here are superior (Hawkers spring rolls in South End just doesn’t even compare, I threw theirs away it was so terrible). The avocado smoothie tastes exactly how my dad made it for me growing up. Just pure avocado & sugar, non of the extra fluff. I’ve only had the food to go due to my limited timing, but they really take the time to ensure everything is packed well! Very happy customer, “cam on”!

After 14 years, I finally found a vietnamese restaurant that serve broken rice. Overall, the food was great. The spring roll (summer roll) in here was great. The egg roll is also delicious. During this visit, I order sliced pork rice plate. Everything is good but the pork is just okay. My friend order pork chop rice plate with tofu skin wrapped shrimp and both are delicious. Recommend to eat here and absolutely will come back here for vietnamese food. The restaurant has variety of food.

The food was delcious. I had the crispy noodle stiry fry with chicken, very unique and tasty. I eat Vietnamese a lot and this place has great food, service, and atmosphere.

Quite nice. Good flavor, good portion, but missing the long lead vegetable for pho. Broken rice and pork is also tasty.

Atmosphere is very good, ordered pho and fried tofu and both are great, a great place to go when you are in the mood for some Pho.

Stopped here to get some Vietnamese food after returning from Iceland via New York. Pho (dac biet) was very good, portion was large, price very reasonable. Bun Bo Hue (spicy beef udon) was good, wish the had pigs feet or blood cubes. The fried tofu & summer rolls (goi cuon) were just ok, wish they add some fresh herbs in the rolls. Place was busy. Service was quick, but I did have to flag down our server. Iced milk coffee was great, strong & sweet. 4.5 is a fair score for this place. Very extensive menu, would like to return & try other items - 2.5 hrs drive for us from Augusta, GA.

Very good food. All ingredients tasted fresh and flavorful and I will definitely be coming back.

Such good food. I got the crispy stir fry noodles with chicken which the server recommended to me, the texture was not what I expected at all, but in the best possible way. Noodles had a good chew and crunch, the sauce was thick and yummy especially with the pepper you can add yourself on the table. Thai Iced tea was delicious too. Very full and very happy.

I came here for a Yelp International Supper Club event so we got a family style meal. Our meal consisted of spring rolls, summer rolls, a yellow pancake, chicken curry, and a vermicelli bowl. My favorite thing was the yellow pancake! The flavor and texture was great. Everything was really good, I feel like you can't go wrong. Vermicelli bowls are always one of my favorites. The service was outstanding. Everyone was very friendly and they were fast and always refilling drinks. I definitely think this spot is worth checking out for some good Vietnamese food.

Doan's has been my go to for Vietnamese since day one. It is a family owned business with delicious food. When the mom is there which is most of the time, I get her to make an avocado and green bean smoothie. My favorites are vermicelli with pork and egg roll V2, grilled beef fresh rolls, yellow pancake, pho tai and grilled pork chop with broken rice. If you have never been just show them this and order all of it.

The food is delicious and the servers are very friendly. Because Vietnamese food is new to us they were extra attentive to our discovering their food. I have to say, very gracious and helpful. I'm now addicted! I've been there 4 times in the last 2 weeks. The food is fresh, scrumptious and plentiful. We originally went in for an iced coffee but ended up eating. I'm so glad we stayed! So far, all the food is wonderful, but my favourite is the #E5 house special noodle soup & the grilled mussel appetizer. Yummy!

The food here is amazing! Of all the Vietnamese restaurants in town, this is my favorite. I highly recommend this place if you are in the mood for Vietnamese. Everything is so good so you can’t go wrong with anything you choose.

After begging and begging my partner to try something different, the first time left a really good impression ! The Tom Yum packed tons of flavor , the broth was excellent didn’t leave a drop. My partner got the Vermicelli with pork and I got the Singapore style noodles ( both really tasty choices ) . Nothing was left on the plate . Coming back again 🤪

Found this hidden gem today searching for Pho near me. 😋 No one spoke English as their first language (good sign), not even the customers. For quite a while I was the only white guy. That's how I knew it would be legit when i walked in. I couldn't stop eating. I ordered the bubbly lemonade (made fresh, very sweet), the crispy egg roles (yum of course) and the Pho with Brisket and Ribeye. The egg roles were a nice size (2); not too thick. The pho was a giant bowl of goodness. Fresh ingredients and tender meats. I will be coming back here.

Love Doan’s! So friendly and wonderful vegan food! Our favorite is the tofu curry with white rice and the rice paper rolls are very fresh! Great place!

The yellow pancake!!! Think of it as a lettuce wrap, add pancake as filling with some mint and basil and the sauce drizzled over. The pho is banging as well I'd suggest the house special, don't be afraid of the meats! It's delicious. Finally the grilled prawn vermicelli! So full of flavor. This is a local gem!

My son and I visited this place when we were looking for something different to eat before a trip to Sam Ash. We found Doan's to have really friendly service, excellent authentic food, and reasonable prices. We aren't on this side of Charlotte often, but would definitely return to dine here given the opportunity.

I ate there yesterday. I had Pad Thai. It was pretty good or average. My wife had calamari as she can't eat rice or pasta. It was not good. It was like thin rubber bands with a coating. I noticed other meals that looked great and I wish I had ordered one of them. There were lots of Asians there and all their meals looked nice. The place seemed clean and the service was average. I will go back as I believe it is a really good place for most orders.

My absolute favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Charlotte. My husband & I have tried many places and we both agree that Doan's has the best flavors and quality of food. A few of my co-workers recommended it to us and now we have become regulars. Their pho and vermicelli dishes are delicious and their beef stew noodle dish is to die for. Very clean tasting with no extra additives or MSG. The place is a hidden gem. We highly recommend!

Bright, fresh and delicious food. Service was prompt and attentive, unlike the reviews from a couple years ago. One of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Charlotte.

Excellent find!. I was in Charlotte on business and was looking for something a little different for dinner than your chain offerings that are so predominant in any metro area of the country. I have been a fan of Vietnamese Pho for many years so when I found Doan's on Yelp with a 97% rating and it was within two miles of my hotel it was a "no brainer" to give it a try. Decor is simple and clean and the staff was very attentive from the initial greeting to the final checkout.
Menu is extensive with Vietnamese cuisine featured but other Southeast Asian dishes also available. I started with an appetizer of Garlic Scallops which there are 12 to an order, so it was delivered in four small bowls with broth. The scallops were tender and the broth was a hint of light garlic and pepper. Great start to my dinner. I came for Pho and I was not disappointed; the beef brisket, beef tips and beef ball was tender and tasty. The broth could have been a little hotter but the flavor was excellent. The rice noodle were melt in your mouth tender.
I am very happy I chose Doan's and I will return on my next trip to Charlotte!

Really good and authentic. I got the specialty spicy noodle soup (bun bo hue), which is a very authentic, true roots soup...can be hard to make at home. This was AMAZING! I am surprised people do not know this place. My mom and her friends looove this place. That is saying something because they can cook very good Vietnamese food themselves but prefer to dine here on occasion.

Great food, the tofu was cooked prefect, the veggies were very fresh. Nice and clean. Customer service great! And the Thai ice tea was the best yet!

LOVE THIS PLACE. We have eaten here 3 times now and the service and food have been great! Love the Pho and yellow pancakes. So fresh and delicious!!

This was absolutely the worst restaurant service ever received. My family and were on vacation and heard this was a great restaurant and when we came in, we had to wait for a waitress to seat us! There was no host! Also, with all the seats the restaurant had, we had to sit in front of the door where the cold air from the door hit us. Also, we couldn't move tables because we never had permission, because we never even had a waiter come to get our drinks! We waited 20 mins WITH NO SERVICE. Are you kidding me?! So instead of ordering hot pot, we went to food lion down the complex and bought us some hot pot ingredients to make ourselves. Never again will we return.

I love Vietnamese food! The house bun is usually my 'go to' item. The only reason I tried this place out was because Vietnam Grill down the street was closed for the holiday. Although it gave me my fix, I probably won't be back..until Vietnam grill is closed again that is!

The BEST. We went there w/ another couple and the food was out of this world. I had Banh Xeo, fabulous. Grilled shrimp w/ broken rice and another w/ Vermicelli then a chicken curry. Wait staff was super helpful, can't say enogh good thing about it!

I took a friend here who knows a few things about good food. She owned a French restaurant in Silicon Valley, is a slammin' cook on her own right, and very picky. And oh, she's Vietnamese. She left impressed. Need I say more.

The food here is very good, but the service is terrible. This is my second time eatind here and it always takes 10-15 minutes for a server to come by and just get our drink order. I think he needs just a little more training on customer service. Other than that, the food is delicious.

Food is great. The Pho, Pad Thai, and the spring roll is amazing. We came here twice and service is great.

Very nice, clean restaurant with a full menu of Vietnamese and Asian dishes. The bun dac biet and pho dishes are really good and very authentic. Summer rolls were fresh and packed with pork and shrimp.
They have hot chrysanthemum tea with rock sugar which is hard to find in the area. The avocado shake is rich and flavorful too.
All around great find and definitely a top spot for Vietnamese food on south blvd.

Delicious, authentic Vietnamese fare. Family owned – delicious food – broths and sauces all homemade. Very reasonable priced. My Top Picks – to start – crispy fried quail and springrolls; for entrees the hot pot service, Pho, Vietnamese pancake, and tofu with lemongrass. Hours – Monday- Thursday – 11 am – 9:30 pm; Friday and Saturday 11 am – 10 pm Sunday 11 am – 8:30 pm Doan's Vietnamese Restaurant on Urbanspoon

From the outside Doan’s look like many of the establishments around. As soon as I stepped inside though I felt the outside world fade. I looked around into the wide dining room noticing their lilac walls and wine colored booths. They had soothing music playing in the background. At the back of the room is the bar. A waitress sat me and I sat there looking over the menu while I waited for my friend. Their menu is expansive although like some of the other Vietnamese joints in town.
