Review The Wooden Vine Wine Bar & Bistro - Charlotte

Piotr
Freash bruschetta, wide selection of wines, pretty expensive but within reason. Good service and really good feel of the place. I definitely recommend for a date or for a small group of close friends who appreciate spending time in fancy places.

They always have really creative wine flights and the staff is very friendly. The guy that's always there is sommelier caliber and will do everything to get you the perfect wine. Couch seating in the back is great, best truffle fries in town too.

We had a fabulous time! Our waiter Michael took great care of us & helped us celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday!

Nice place. Surprise cream brûlée for my wife's birthday. I had the old fashioned with Bullet rye whiskey. Lisa the Rosé wine flight, French, Portugal and Spain. Good time. Check it out.

This place is a little pricey but you get what you pay for at least twice over. We've had the same bartender every time and he is incredibly knowledgeable and always gives wonderful recommendations, even if you've got very specific tastes. The cheese plate is a must have and the flights are a great way to try something new with no risk because there's just no way you'll dislike every wine in the flight, no matter how picky you are.

I love this place. The atmosphere is upscale, and the food was great. I have come alone and with a group as well and the service was excellent. This is a great place to unwind with a diverse atmosphere and I always have a great time. I was shocked to see the previous review, I am also a female of color, and I have never felt unwelcomed. Also the Bacon Jam burger is very delicious and a must try.

Excellent LOCAL place in Uptown Charlotte with excellent food, friendly and professional staff combined with a great wine selection make for a great experience! The wait staff is by far one of the best in Uptown, they are friendly and attentive which is often hard to find at Uptown restaurants. The food has some unique combinations, but I've adventured out and been very pleased with the unique and surprisingly fantastic flavors. The staff is very knowledgeable on wine parings and wine knowledge in general. It's a great place for a date, quick bite before a play or just to have a glass of wine outside during the warmer months.

You get what you pay for, and though it is a little pricey, they have some really awesome wine in house. The bartender was knowledgeable and let us try a few things before ordering, and the recommendations he gave us were spot on. I haven't tried the food yet, but that just gives me a reason to return.

The sign of a great restaurant is not being perfect every time, but in taking care of you when they feel they have not. I love this place, the owner is very hands on and the staff is super professional. I went in on a busy night with 6 ladies, who all ordered different things and split different things....we were heading to a show and the staff bent over backwards to accommodate us, when they felt they had not done enough, they comped a bottle of wine, we were so surprised and pleased, it just added to the joy of an evening spent in Charlotte. I highly recommend visiting them when you want a special evening.

First time at Wooden Vine this week! Brought a friend and we enjoyed talking to the friendly bartender and ordered the mystery wine pours. Really neat idea as, if you guess the varietal and region correctly, you get it free! Our friend guessed correctly and fun was had by all. We did not order food but will try that next time.

Warm & classy with good humor. I really enjoyed the Old Vine Flight and their tasty Charcuterie board! I tasted several other cocktails and all were delish. Michael the Bar tender was very knowledgeable, funny and great to talk to. I was fortunate enough to meet the owner also. She is not only smart and business savvy but a BEAUTIFUL young woman, friendly and creative!!

This spot is the place for wine lovers. The bartenders are knowledgeable and know exactly what to pour for your taste. The food is delectable, filled with great flavors. Sweet spot for a date night, friends night out or just a spot for a glass of delicious wine.

One of the best kept secrets in the heart of uptown Charlotte! The vine offers one of the most diverse wine list in the city. They offer 30 glass pours and have over 300 bottles on their list. You'll find wine from all over the world there! The restaurant itself offers an intimate setting that can accommodate any outing. A large beautiful bar and comfy couches for those who want a more relaxed setting. The menu features classic favorites such as cheese and charcuterie and also features ever-changing seasonal fare as well. The staff is very knowledgeable and attentive, Nadya is absolutely AMAZING! As I understand it, they recently have come under new ownership, and I can say that whatever they're doing, ITS WORKING!!! I highly recommend The Wooden Vine to anyone who enjoys nice wine and relaxed settings. And for those who are new to the wine world, dont worry, the knowledgeable and patient staff are more than happy to teach you everything they know and help find that perfect bottle!!!

Staff is friendly and wine selection is second to none. Small plates and charcuterie are excellent and in relatively constant rotation. Good mix of local meats and cheeses and international options. Highly recommend wine flights if you're new to wine or want to branch out.

My boyfriend and I loved it here! We initially went in for the wine flights earlier in the evening, but then we decided to come back for more wine and dinner. Altogether, we spent like 3-4 hours in there! The servers were so pleasant, the food/wine was delicious and the atmosphere was incredibly relaxing. 10/10 - I recommend!

Great place and the owner was super nice and knowledgeable about the wine. Meat and cheese tray was so good. Very neat place and we will be back for sure.

I was skeptical at first, but I am glad I made the stop in. The employees are “real” and are very nice and attentive. Don’t ever change. A wine list that stands out. In addition, they also use grape varietal specific stemware by RIEDEL which sets them apart from many other places. Good job.

The love this place the most, because of the memories it's helped me build :)
Of course their food prep is charming and their collection of wine is really great...

I went to The Wooden Vine with several friends for dinner. I have always walked by but have never had the chance to enjoy an evening there. Imagine my surprise to discover that this little wine bar is more than that, it is also a restaurant. They have a limited seasonal menu made from locally sourced ingredients. They have small plates and a few artfully done entrees. Upon walking in you will see a long restaurant with some sitting areas and tall tables. The atmosphere is perfect for a date or an intimate evening with friends.

Favorite Wine Bar Turned Favorite Restaurant. I started out going to the Wooden Vine because it has an excellent wine list and the owner is a sommelier who really knows his wines. The atmosphere is rustic and cozy and is a comfortable place to share a nice glass of wine with a friend or two. But since they hired Nic Daniels as their chef, the food that comes out of the kitchen is consistently amazing! They change their menus with the seasons so they can utilize foods that are local and in season. I have attended their wine dinners and each one has been one of the best culinary and wine experiences I have ever had. You truly feel pampered with the finest. Their menu is rather adventurous but for those who like to stick to a more traditional menu they have things to satisfy all. Their desserts are usually deconstructed plays on retro desserts. Oh, and did I mention they have their own pastry chef? Whenever I want to take someone out to a restaurant that will impress, I bring them to the Wooden Vine.

Queen's Feast a Flop.. First visit and last. For starters, I had the Crab soup which was under-seasoned. After asking for and adding salt, it tasted really good. Second, I ordered the Rabbit, again, under-seasoned, and very chewy. I had to ask for a steak knife because the butter knife (supplied) would not cut through it. The entire dish was cold and had no flavor. Disappointing, to the point that I did not want the dessert.

I will say that the decor was very nice. Good selection of wine.

Phenomenal!!. Culinary artistry at its best! Great wine selection @ all price points & the value for the quality is outstanding. There is some serious talent in the kitchen, from concept to execution, I could not have been more impressed with this place. You could stop in for a quick bite of small plates (tapas) or experience some of the best entrees you can imagine. Highly recommended!

Great Experience at the Wooden vine. My girlfriend and I were in Charlotte for a quick night away. We strolled around downtown during dinnertime and came upon this place. Everything from the service (our server, Rod (I think) was knowledgeable, personable, and up front about everything on the menu) to the atmosphere was flawless.
Our wine went perfectly with our food which included small portions of tremendously flavorful foods (Capresi salad, mojo verde, grilled grape salad, charcuterie plate, s'mores). It was timed perfectly for our evening as we sat outside on the sidewalk in downtown Charlotte.
If you're looking for delicious food with correct portions and a great time. Go here. Everything was fantastic.

Best Place for Wine and Food in Uptown!. Wow! Walk into the Wooden Vine and you realize you are in a special place unlike anything else in uptown Charlotte! The warm cozy interior with the hand carved solid wood tables are so inviting. I sat down and was immediately greeted with a friendly and wine knowledgeable server. He guided me to find a wine that fit my tastes and I have to say it was the best glass of wine I have ever had, Line 32 was the name of it. Then I turned to the menu and saw so many unique and interesting things on the menu, I couldn't decide which to try. We finally settled on the french onion soup dumplings and the cheese plate for starters. OMG! the french onion soup dumplings were amazing! I have never had anything like them before. They were these plump dumplings filled with french onion soup, served warm with an onion soup broth drizzled over them. We had to fight each other to get the last bite! The cheese plate had lovely cheeses and warm baquette slices brushed with olive oil and herbs which brought out the flavors in the cheeses. I would have liked to see some olives or something added to the plate though.
Next my boyfriend ordered the pineapple tea marinated pork chop. I thought hmmm, I'm not sure about that one, but it was a nice 1 inch thick chop sitting on top of a farro fgrain and pea tendrils with a lovely sauce. The chop was juicy and flavorful - a nice hardy meal! I was nicely surprised. I ordered the wasabi salmon as I love salmon. It was outstanding! Cooked perfectly and delicately flavored against the boldness of the wasabi over pesto sauced soba noodles. It was a perfect match! My friend got the scallops - perfectly seared over basil sauced beet gnocchi which melted in your mouth with just a very mild beet flavour.
Lastly, we just had to try some of the desserts as they were so interesting sounding as well. All of their desserts are made in house and are take-offs of childhood favorites. My boyfriend and I had the "banana split" and my friend got the strawberry soda over rhubarb ice cream with a birch beer creme. It was so good she wouldn't share! The banana split was anything but an ordinary banana split - with the flourless chocolate cake and a caramelized banana mousse! Yummy!
We can't wait to go back and try all the other fun things on the spring menu quick before they change to their summer menu!

Bad Experience / Pricing Error. Went to the Wooden Vine for the 1st and last time. Ordered a $28 bottle on wine. It was poured before the waitress saids oops I am sorry the price on the menu is wrong. This wine is actually $38. The HOB NOB is even listed as $28 on the website MENU.

Many appetizers were ordered for 2. The appetizers came out to fast, before the table could even be cleared of empty plates and they were cold before they could be eaten. The meal was rushed when there was no wait for tables. The staff could use some training expecially for the price of small plates.

I found the same bottle of wine at 300 East for $29.00. Seems to me we were ripped off.

Owner, Hampton Street Vineyard. What a great find for the four of us out of towners. Sat at the bar Saturday night enjoyed the smoked figs, rack of lamb, and scallops. Sarrah took great care of us and we will be back on our next visit to Charlotte.

Big kudos. Finally hit this joint with some friends. Came in late, the kitchen was closed, but the awesome server/bar maid managed to get us a great cheese plate, hummus, and olives. Some really good wines here, very cool atmosphere. Worth stopping.

Uptown oasis. Love this wine bar - the artwork of the wood inside is SPECTACULAR - and something SUPER unique to our Queen City... although truthfully, I've never stayed inside to enjoy the beauty much because it's always FREEZING cold in there. I love the few outdoor tables and chairs... wine selection is good and prices can't be beaten. Definitely a chill spot to relax and people watch after a long work day.

Nice atmosphere. You can have great conversations here. $5 sampler on Tuesday is wonderful even for a novice like me.

Great place!. The Wooden Vine is a delicious spot in the heart of downtown Charlotte. The food is prepared perfectly and I have never left hungry or disappointed. It is a refreshing change to the normal humdrum food of every day life.

One of my favortite little bars. The Wooden Vine is one of the best little wine bars in Charlotte. Besides the reasonable wine and apps, the decor is very unique, warm and welcoming. Its always a stop on date night for us!

Love it!. Great new wine bar on N. Tryon Street. very cool interior, plus a couple of tables on the sidewalk...great place to sit and watch the world go by with a glass of wine. Tasty nibbles and an excellent, well chosen wine list with plenty of reasonable offerings.
