Visited Freshwaters to celebrate my 30th birthday and I had an overall awesome experience! The staff was great, although I think more waiters/waitresses were needed to accommodate my large party. I made reservations for 15-20 people, we only had one waitress and at times she seemed overwhelmed. The food is DELICIOUS and the staff is very friendly and personable! Our waitress voluntarily offered to take picture of my party for me, so everyone could be in the picture. The atmosphere was nice as well, very intimate. I’ll definitely be dining there again!

Wonderful dinner. Good portions, priced well. Great tasting catfish, seasoned and fried to perfection, I appreciated the light touch with the salt. Sides of cabbage and yams were traditional and delicious, just like home. You can't go wrong having a meal at Freshwaters. The owner is pleasant, detail oriented and dedicated to ensuring a high quality service staff. Very welcoming restaurant with good service and great tasting food. The next time I'm in Charlotte, I'll be sure to return.

What a find! Our group was large and we were accommodated with the best of service. Mrs. Freshwater personally greeted us. Food was AMAZING!! We tried several appetizers with the catfish fritters being the consensus favorite. For our entrees, the crab cakes were standouts.....your choice of fried or grilled......all crab, no breading. We begged Mr. Freshwater for the remoulade recipe and will keep returning until he decides to share it! The sides were that perfect blend of Southern with hints of Cajun seasonings.....favs with the okra and tomatoes and red beans and rice. We had no room for dessert but left with coconut cake to go. Seek out this gem in Fourth Ward!!

Every time I eat at Freshwaters, I always enjoy the food and the service. Sharon and Cliff (owners) say hello when I'm there. I feel really at home. The food is excellent and Shona, one of the servers, is also fantastic. I highly recommend Freshwaters!

Celebrated my Grandmother's 80th birthday here yesterday and all I can say is DELICIOUS!! Crystal was our server and she was awesome. Mrs. Freshwaters was a superb hostess. My Grandmother who is very picky said what she had on her plate tasted just like she cooked it in her own kitchen!! I will be back real soon to visit. I'm spreading the word to everyone I know!! Please visit Freshwaters...you won't be disappointed!

Good soul food! Love mac&cheese. My sister loved juicy well season ribs. My brother really enjoyed the cleaned fresh taste of his fried white fish. Our waiter was patient and Helpful with our first time patron questions. Word to vegetarians...the menu clearly states most things...EVEN veggies cooked in Turkey seasoning. My mac& cheese was not. You'll enjoy a nice, down home cooked meal! peace.

Mr. & Mrs. Fresh are amazing people whom shows tremendous pride in what they've built. The ambiance is beautiful with excellent service to match. The food it Top Tier! Everything fresh and homemade with love. In all of my travels, I have never come across another soul food restaurant that can compare to the food at Freshwaters. Everything my husband and I ordered was delicious. Catfish, salmon cakes, BBQ chicken, collard greens, mac & cheese, string beans, candied yams, shrimp cocktail, chocolate cake and peach cobbler. Oh yeah, and Mrs. Fresh makes a mean drink! We are going back again today before our flight.

The food was delivered promptly and absolutely delicious. I'm mad I forgot to take a picture. We had delicious catfish, shrimp and wonderful sides to choose from. It’s a must have… I come all the way down from Greensboro. First time I went was for my brother’s bday celebration. Then I had to make my way back on my own. I absolutely love the owner husband and wife. They’re beautiful, professional, and kind. ALL THE FOOD IS AMAZING!!! -T. Hollingsworth Wilson

I'm going to say this, for those that say the restaurant is slow, it's true. The food, however, was excellent. The most tender, juicy flake fish and Shrimp combo with red beans and rice, cornbread was great. String beans, not so much. Only the cook and the lady was available early yesterday, but they provided a wonderful meal. The cook actually brought out the food as well. Support this business. They'll all need our support.

The food was great, I was visiting my sister and there to see the football game. I always make it a point to eat at black owned restaurants whenever I travel. Freshwaters has some of the best southern style food.

The food was great. The owner welcomed us to her restaurant and explained the menu and specials. My son ordered the ribs, the meat literally fell off the bone. I had the catfish with yams and string beans. The fish was seasoned good. I will make sure that I come back.

My Minster leader and I were talking on the phone. I was headed to Bobee O's and she told me she was hungry and was going to a restaurant near our church. I asked her where she said, Freshwaters. Ashe said it was a black owned Wew Orleans soul food restaurant. This peaked my interest, so I turned around and drove 9 miles back. We arrived, and the hostess was very pleasant. As we waited, we mingled with out patrons. We were seated in approximately 10 minutes (not bad considering the after church crowd) Once we were seated, our waitress came with water and corn muffins (which were very good). We ordered the fried pork chops, collard greens, grèen beans, macaroni and cheese, and a side of red beans and rice. My sugar was dropping, and I needed to eat. This was the disappointing part, i asked if we could have another muffin, and politely, she told us we couldn't. She did, however, come with muffins. She explained the policy on portion control. It took almost 25-30 minutes for our food to come out. You know I was starving at this time. The food was seasoned well, and the person raved about the green beans. I didn't like the red beans and rice. We were almost finished with our meal and decided to get a slice of the chocolate layer cake. We told our waitress. We waited as the serving staff was not able to cut the cake????? We waited for the owner to finish setting up tables and welcoming guests. After waiting a considerable amount of time, I said to the owner, "Can we have some cake?" Her response was, "You want it now?" I held my composure but said, "we wanted it 15 mins ago." At thus point I thought when you hit them in the pocket, maybe things will change. I get it that it's your name on the building, but there was a lot of micro managing so much so that the wait staff was on edge. Our waitress was awesome. But the front of the house needs improvement.

This restaurant reminded me of my childhood best friend’s grandmother’s cooking. The owners, the atmosphere, and the quality of food are impeccable. This is a restaurant that needs to be featured because the meals are cooked with love. Try the peach cobbler—best we’ve ever had! Thanks! We will be back!

The food was great, the ambience was great nice soft jazz music playing in the background the owners come out and they're friendly and they talk to you they explained their menu for the day there they have drinks there they dessert are homemade there it looks like you're just sitting and your dining room among other family members having laughs and it's it was just a great experience being there a lot of people don't know about this great place. The catfish was on fire, the fried chicken wings were awesome, the salmon croquette was was awesome this is really a great restaurant. The seating is covid conscious and they spray the tables and chairs with Lysol after every seating. Temperature is taken at the door before they seat you. The business began in New Jersey and they migrated to Charlotte. Go visit you'll be happy you did. The customer service was exceptional. Very friendly environment
