Review The Q Shack - Charlotte

N A
This review is overdue. I passed this place a thousand times in route to Hallmark. Figured I'd try them for dinner on a cool Sunday evening, 10-30-22. The gentleman who took my order was patient, answered my questions, & gave me suggestions. I ordered the smoked turkey with fried okra, yams, and two jalapeño deviled eggs. I wished I'd gotten a few more eggs. May stop in again the next time I'm going to Hallmark.

If you are having a special event such as a wedding or a large gathering, I highly encourage you to stop looking and to call/email Daniese and Barry with Q Shack. They catered for my wedding with my wife and I have never received so many compliments about how great the food I’ve chosen for others before my wedding. Everybody had a fantastic review to give me about the food (beef brisket, pulled pork, Mac and cheese and potato salad). Their service at my wedding deserves 6 stars instead of 5. They treated everyone in my wedding with great care and attention. I am highly grateful for meeting them and hiring them for my wedding. Pick Q Shack!

My fiancé and I stopped here on a wim and they did not disappoint. Amazing brisket, and the best fried okra ever!! Hush puppies are very good as well. Super affordable for the amount of food you get. And let’s not forget the amazing deviled eggs!!!

Good classic BBQ. We got the party pack for $72.99. They said it feeds 6-9 people. The 10 of us got that and a few more sides and we all left full. The party pack had a lot of meat and sides, all of which were amazing. I was most surprised by the hush puppies. They were SOOOO good!! Definitely recommend.

As you can see, CLEARLY didn't like my food, I LOVED my food. Finished the whole thing, had to order seconds. Their chicken wings are really good, crisp but soft. Smoke turkey always good, brisket, hushpupies, cant get enough of it. Owners are super nice. I remember i cane once with a group of friend he gave us all FREE desert, Aka chocolate chip cookies 🍪. I bet the owner doesn't remember that, but we all do. Never forgot that gesture. Good cookie too! Food is good guys. Price is also good. Nice and casual to stop by and grab food to dine in or on the go. Stop by, give it a try and enjoy this local meatshack restaurant.

Stopped in for a quick lunch and tried this place just having seen it driving by (no research). Man, we both had brisket with a few sides and we left very happy! Prices are good for bbq and everything came out super quick yet super fresh. Definitely ranks up there for good bbq but also the service was friendly, place was clean, and was just a nice experience.

Just happened to see this place while driving around . The staff was extremely friendly and even up-saled me on the stew ! Stopped and got the hungry man special with fried okra and 1/2 pint Brunswick stew . I care for my 92 year old dad and he loved it as did I ! Definitely will be back ! Hope it lets me share pictures.

Our experience with The Q Shack was phenomenal! We had never eaten at their restaurant before and wanted a BBQ style buffet for our wedding. They WOW’ed us with an exceptional tasting of their food options and advised us of their other services, such as dinnerware, delivery and serving options, etc. We immediately knew we wanted to book them for our event. Daniese, Don, and staff went above and beyond! Our guests complimented the food multiple times and we were very impressed with the services they provided at our wedding. We highly recommend The Q Shack for any event’ -Christina & Alan Fisher

The Q Shack is my favorite bbq place in Charlotte! We’ve always liked the restaurant for family lunches, but they really went above and beyond at a wedding we went to recently! The food was fantastic and the catering manager and her team were so wonderful! We already referred them to our engaged friends and will be using them for catering needs in the future <3

Husband and I both did three meat plates. Sampled brisket(awesome esp. the rub), sausage (tender juicy perfect), pulled pork (texture moisture A+ and perfect avenue for some tasty sauce) and smoked turkey very good. Potato salad included bacon, say no more. Lol. Coleslaw creamy but lightly so, fresh nice. Mac and cheese, noodles texture perfect, basic cheese and seasoning which I found the perfect compliment. And finally banana pudding-loaded with fresh banana, good heavy pudding, the nilla wafer doesn't have time to sit so it's crispy and that's as close as I can come to a complaint! Staff seems a family team and friendly personable and very interested in getting you what you want. Great place, I will be back. *Almost forgot the hush puppies, addictive.

I recently used the Q Shack to cater my wedding reception. I live in TN and my reception was being held in Charlotte, which left me having to handle the entire catering planning process virtually. I am SO GLAD I chose The Q Shack, as they did not disappoint!!!! They went above and beyond all my expectations and provided excellent service and outstanding food at my reception! From the beginning, the owner and his team were incredibly responsive to my questions and were even generous enough to allow my parents to come enjoy multiple taste test on my behalf. All their recommendations were spot on. On the day of the reception, they arrived early and well-prepared. They clearly take pride in their catering and it shows. The owner himself stayed for a majority of our reception to ensure it went off without a hitch. The employee helping serve the food was super friendly. And of course, the food was out of this world! Everything was hot and fresh (which is no easy feat when providing catering, I promise you that). The brisket was phenomenal (and that is high praise coming from a Memphian). The Mac 'n cheese was a guest favorite. The owner shared with me that these dishes were all his wife's recipes. All in all, I couldn't recommend the Q Shack enough - whether you need catering, or a place to pick up lunch. You'll love the food and the thoughtful service with it. THANK YOU for making my reception a memorable evening!

Hands down, the best vendor we had for our wedding! Highly recommend! Went above and beyond scope. Extremely professional and absolutely FABULOUS food. Anything that was needed outside of food/serving, Dan & his team assisted...From bringing drinks to everyone while taking pics, refilling the drink troughs all night, to having a plate ready for the Groom and I, I can’t say enough how great he was. Everyone said their favorite part about the wedding was the brisket. My only regret is not going back for a second plate. 10/10 recommend Dan at the Q Shack for your catering needs!

The ribs were fantastic and the service was great with awesome suggestions. Raspberry bbq sauce is the way to go.

Delicious. My first trip. Enjoyed the $6.99 lunch special. BBQ sandwich and one side. They absolutely packed the sandwich with a ton of BBQ. I liked their sweet sauce. Very clean and the owners very friendly. You will enjoy the Q Shack.

My family and I had lunch today here. We ordered a family pack for 4 of us and was delicious, tasteful and enough. Dan was the best hostess. Thank you so much for such a good service!

Came to q shack with my team after a tournament. The food here really hit the spot. It was delicious and a great deal, the brisket was sublime. Staff were really friendly. I’d come here if we pass through the area again.

The Q Shack catered our wedding, and over a month later we're still talking about how wonderful that experience was! Not only was the food very tasty, Dan was also a total gem and captured the hearts of all our guests. He even brought out a personal portion of fried okra for me after I raved about how delicious their okra was! While we took pictures, Dan made sure our wedding party had whatever we needed from food to drinks and everything in between. After a rough start trying to find catering for our wedding, we are extremely grateful to have stumbled across The Q Shack. Next time we are in Charlotte we are definitely visiting them!

The brisket’s bark was nice and peppery and there was a mixture of lean and fatty in each quarter-inch slice. Gotta say, not bad brisket for a gasser. The moist pork had decent bark mixed into its coarse chop. I added a little NC vinegar sauce just to check it out, and it added a nice tang. All in all, I’d have to rate both meats as above average.

Really Bad!!. We've given this place 2 tries. First time we had the pulled pork. Dry, bland not good. Recently we went back on our son's recommendation to try the brisket that he liked in the Raleigh location where he lives. It was way bad. Again, dry, bland just not good. It's advertised as "hickory smoked", but I guarantee this stuff has never seen a piece of wood of any kind, much less hickory. Also, the onion rings were blatantly frozen and really poor. It's a sad order of onion rings that I can't even get halfway through. I agree that Spoon's and Mac's Speed shop are much better.

Like it with Qualifications. My wife is one of those social outcasts who does not care for BBQ. Always thought it came from the fact that she is from Pittsburgh which is not exactly a
BBQ hot spot. That is until today.

She is on her way to the burgh to visit her granddaughters and I thought I would give this place a try. After all, I am a Southerner and I do like my Que.

Walked in and I thought I was in the Steelers gift shop up to and including a framed Roethlisberger jersey. Turns out the owner is from the South Hills of Pgh and he does turn out a pretty fair Que.

For my lunch, I ordered a Smoked Pork Butt plate which came with two sides. For the sides, I chose Potato Salad and BBQ Pinto Beans. The Pork Butt was very good although a bit on the dry side. I personally like the Pepper Vinegar Eastern NC style sauce and their sauce is very good.

The Potato Salad is very good but if you're expecting Southern Style, you'll be disappointed. This was more a midwestern style which fortunately I like so I had no problems there. All in all, it was very good although the portion was a bit on the small side. The BBQ Pinto's need to rethought. Not very good and very mainly partially cooked pinto's with chunks of stewed tomatoe in with them. BBQ beans should be slow cooked for hours until the cell wall of the bean breaks down and forms a thick broth. Beans should not be crunchy.

Nice atmosphere, particulary if you're from the burgh. Service is counter style and very good although the assistant kept trying to rush me when I first walked in and was studying the menu. First time there and the menu looked very good so it took me a while to decide. Not sure why he was trying to rush me because the place was not crowded and I was the only person in line.

In any case, it's a nice place with good food for a reasonable price.

This would definately be a place I would take my wife but won't because she does not like BBQ even if the owner is also from her home area.

Had the hickory smoked pork butt plate. Meat was good. Tomato based sauce was good. Deviled jalapeño eggs were fabulous! I like a mustard based Deviled egg and these really hit the spot. However the sides fell flat. The potato salad had too much parsley or some kind of green stuff and was way too dry no onions no eggs nothing else seem to be in it. The coleslaw was also very very dry I didn't really have any liquid in it at all or any anything creamy. It was just dry with a little bit of celery seed so I think they need work on their sides and I will try them again

Pretty decent for Charlotte. I consider myself somewhat of BBQ snob. I cook it at home and have been told that I could open my own place. Q Shack is more like a Subway than a traditional BBQ joint. However, their Q is pretty decent. BBQ is really hard to make commercially and still have that backyard taste. My BBQ at home is much better than this place, but I don't smoke 100 pounds of pork a day either. For a restaurant, this place is right up there with any of them in Lexington. The pork was a tad dry, but I'll take dry over some of the mushy mess I've had in Charlotte. The brisket was decent too. My only suggestion is that they work on their slaw. It's a bit bland for my liking. All in all, for a BBQ restaurant, it's typical. I would recommend it.

Not up to par!!. So I had some friends in last weekend form WV and they wanted some good BBQ. I went through my list of other places before realizing it was getting late so I decided to compromise and get the Q Shack I wish I would have went elsewhere so my friend could have enjoyed some good NC BBQ. We got meals to go so we didn't have to drag the kids out. The service was horrible. The kid at the counter talked faster than his brain could function. They screwed up two of the six meals by giving the wrong meat. The portions were skimpy and the ribs looked anorexic. I didn't like apologizing to my friends for the sorry excuse of meal that Q shack provided. THE END.

We got a turkey there for thanksgiving and we made one everyone liked the one we bought more than the homemade one!

Been here many times. Just don't get the negative reviews. It is ultra clean, and the staff is attentive and friendly. I have taken others and they all enjoyed the food as much as I do. This place is great! Need to try it yourself rather than relying on negative reviews.

First timer at the Q shack. Nice atmosphere. Was surprised there was no ketchup on tables for fries, onion rings, etc. Sandwiches were really good, ribs would have been better if they had not been slightly better than room temp.

Food is gross and over priced. Not good BBQ at all . Very dirty.

The The Q Shack offers great food at an incredibly low price. The special is only $5 and comes with a pulled pork sandwich and your choice of a side. This is one of the best deals in charlotte and is a must for anybody in south Charlotte looking for great bbq :)
