This is like my 4 or 5th time coming to here. My food is always good. My drinks are always good! It can be upscale for date night or a comfy cozy place to just talk and eat. One of my favorite places.
They changed the menu recently. My only words of advice are DO NOT get the pork belly. I sent it back!! Even now writing this review the thought of it makes me nauseous. It was sliced too thick, and overcooked which made it hard to chew and eat. Otherwise great experience!
Try the Sonic Tonic and the upside down cake!! You won’t regret it!

I don't even know where to begin.. it started with making a reservation for my wife's birthday, then I wrote a message via Open Table.. they responded immediately and made my wife's birthday utterly an amazing experience! Justin, Sam & Anna were incredible from the greeting, to the seating to the food and the atmosphere.. The management and ownership are absolutely Top-notch!!! NEVER have I been to a restaurant that made eating there an exciting experience... My wife and I are overwhelmed with gratitude for the absolutely amazing attention to detail, creativity and kindness that we were shown for her birthday. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the O-Ku dining experience to everyone that loves great ambiance, delicious sushi and a wonderful staff... THIS IS THE PLACE!! BEST IN CHARLOTTE!!

The atmosphere, setting, food, basically everything here is phenomenal. The red dragon sushi, hot and heavy, and braised rib were top-notch. Quality here. Will most definitely be coming back again

Delicious!! Food was fantastic and vibe was grat for date night or a semi casual dinner. It's in a walkable place with plenty of other places to go for a night cap after dinner. Recommend getting a reservation if possible. Service was great as well. Our server was helpful and gave great recommendations. Black Magic and spider roll sushi was yummy. South End Tofu was AMAZING 👏🏽😍

We ordered the chefs special at the time which was crispy rice topped with tuna toro, Uni and caviar. It was so good and fresh. If this is available, I would definitely order this again. We also ordered the assorted nigiri combo. The waitress told us which pieces were which which was nice but I would've loved to know what was included on the menu before. The spider roll which was delicious. I don't have a picture of the fried rice but it was flavorful and a great takeaway to eat the next day.
My favorite drink that I absolutely would go back for is the Curried Away. Its a curried Smirnoff with dark rum, house sour and Coco Lopez. It is soo smooth and a very unique taste.

Overall, you can enjoy fresh and fair priced sushi at O-Ku given the food quality. We mostly enjoyed their nigiris which were all very fresh and exquisitely presented. If you are not the biggest sushi fan, I’d recommend the cooked and raw starters, or the Lobster & Mushroom main. Definitely finish on the sweet note and have the Pavlova - we all loved it!
Only downside is the noise within the restaurant and the table setup which is not very supportive of the shared dining concept.
Dining and Discovering
It was my first time eating sushi and I loved it. I was a pleasant dining experience from start to finish. Southend is notoriously bad for parking, so when I arrived and saw they had a parking lot I was pleasantly surprised. I started with the edamame and then had the mermaid rolls and split the teriyaki chicken plate with my date. I also like that they are open late. It says they close at 10 and they take reservations up until the 9:45 dinner start time. Although we came near close they didn’t rush us and when we left around 11 there were still a few other people there finishing up their meals. Our waitress Kayla was great. She was personable and took the time and effort to explain the menu to me since it was my first time there. I also loved that they had a gluten free menu!

Short version: we had the best sushi/meal of our lives here, we can't recommend O-Ku enough, if you love sushi this place is a must-visit! OK, the long version: we got a last minute reservation for 9:45PM for our 11th anniversary dinner and even at that late hour the service was incredible and the place was booming. Our server made some great recommendations (I believe we had the Yellowtail Carpaccio appetizer, probably the single most amazing thing that's ever graced our tongues and that includes trying the A5 Wagyu beef as well) and took excellent care of us from start to finish! Management was also very welcoming, they were aware it was our anniversary and even brought us some complimentary champagne. The chefs at the sushi bar were also engaging, entertaining and informative, we can't wait to try Omakase on our next visit! Overall, our experience exceeded all of our expectations and was easily the best meal of our lives - this is coming from a couple who has dined at dozens of sushi restaurants up and down the east coast.

Our experience was absolutely perfect from the beginning to the end. We ate at the bar which is where we always choose to eat no matter where we go. Our bartender/server was awesome. Super attentive and knowledgeable, with lots of recommendations that were all on point. The cocktails were amazing and the food excellent. We can't wait to return to try more things on the menu. I would have to say, Best Sushi fusion restaurant in all of Charlotte!

My palette has been enticed! Delightful from start to finish. Toro Spoons (forgot the real name) and the O-ku nigiris were my fave! The nigiris literally MELT in your mouth. They have taken sushi to another level. Jesse is an amazing and talented Chef! Jennifer our server was so attentive and wonderful. We will definitely visit again.

My husband and I went to O-KU to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and could not have had a better experience. The dining room itself is stunning, modern and comfortable. Even the glasses and dishes they use are beautiful and fit perfectly with the aesthetic. The food and cocktails we had were all delicious - the Potato Roll is so unique and pairs so wonderfully with the Salmon and Lemon Roll. As for the staff, everyone we interacted with was so kind and truly cared about giving us a wonderful experience. My husband had put on our reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary, and literally everyone who we interacted with - hostess, waitress, food runner, even the manager - came over and wished us a happy anniversary. We were even given complimentary prosecco to toast our first year of marriage with. It was among the most thoughtful dining experiences I have ever had.
We will definitely be back - thank you so much to the entire staff, but shout out to Tien!

One of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time. We didn't have reservations but they accommodated us within 25 minutes. From the time we walked in the manager, the wait staff, the sous chef was on point and made us feel welcome and the sushi was absolutely amazing. I will definitely be back.

I had a great time here the other night for their Sakura celebration. Everything was fantastic! The atmosphere was great, the staff and management were top notch and the food was incredible. I tried the duck buns and they were amazing. I will definitely be back many times to dine and try more of their impressive menu. A must in Charlotte to check out. Great job to everyone!

Amazing! First time I went to O-ku was in charleston! O-ku in Charlotte is smaller. Service was great! Food is amazing! So happy they have the same menu as charleston! The otoro spoons are to die for!!

Terrific staff, diverse menu, great atmosphere. Service was excellent. Will definitely be back. Yellowtail carpaccio, soft shell crap special, Rainbow and Dragon rolls were delicious. Even desert chocolate bentonite box was perfect.
