Review New South Kitchen & Bar - Charlotte

I recently had the pleasure of visiting this modern southern style restaurant for brunch, and I must say, the flavors and dishes transported me to the heart of the South. The restaurant had a trendy and inviting ambiance that perfectly complemented the delicious fare they had to offer. Let's start with the highlight of the meal - the chicken. It was nothing short of excellent. The succulent, perfectly cooked chicken had a crispy golden crust that sealed in the juicy goodness. Each bite was a harmonious blend of flavors, with just the right amount of seasoning. It was clear that the chefs had put great effort into ensuring that the chicken was the star of the show, and they succeeded admirably. Accompanying the chicken were the delectable potatoes. These Southern-style potatoes were wonderfully seasoned and perfectly cooked. They had a crispy exterior, giving way to a soft and tender center. Each bite was a heavenly blend of flavors, with hints of herbs and spices that enhanced the overall experience. These potatoes were truly a standout addition to the meal. The biscuits were another delightful component of the brunch. They were flaky, buttery, and had a melt-in-your-mouth texture. Freshly baked to perfection, you can enjoy these on their own or with the jams and butters available, but either way the biscuits were an absolute delight. Now, onto the only downside of the experience—the wait for the food. Unfortunately, the wait was longer than expected, which detracted from an otherwise enjoyable dining experience. While I understand that we did go on a holiday, we did make reservations, were seated on time, and still had to wait over an hour. However, it's worth noting that the quality of the dishes did make up for the delay to some extent. Despite the longer wait, I would still highly recommend New South Kitchen & Bar for their wide variety of southern offerings. The chicken, potatoes, and biscuits were simply outstanding, showcasing the rich and comforting flavors of the South. If you're looking for a taste of Southern cuisine with a modern twist, this restaurant is the place to be. Just be prepared for a potential wait, as the food is definitely worth it. The flavors, attention to detail, and ambiance combined to create a truly enjoyable brunch. I'll definitely be returning to savor more of their mouthwatering dishes.

Great food, excellent service like always. Try chocolate mousse cake! It is something!

My family got the Thanksgiving dinner for takeout and omg it was so good! Each dish came with reheating instructions. And let me tell you, even though this meal was cooked the day before Thanksgiving, it all tasted so fresh and just as good as any fresh meal would taste. The cornbread dressing rivaled my grandma's. The mac and cheese was so creamy, cheesy and delicious. The noodles were cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were perfectly buttery and seasoned just right. The gravy sent the potatoes over the edge. The sweet potato puree had such a good flavor, with just the right amount of spices and sweetness. Finally, the biscuits were just heavenly little buttery puffs of goodness. I fully recommend and will use New South Kitchen for future Thanksgivings. And I look forward to finding some more favorites throughout the rest of the year.

We had our Thanksgiving dinner here and enjoyed it very much. One of my sides was macaroni and cheese ... and it tasted wonderful, but there wasn't much of it - bummer. Definitely a place I would recommend due to their excellent food and great service.

I ate lunch at New South Kitchen & Bar on January 10th, and I was very impressed. This is a farm to table restaurant where most of everything on their menu is sourced locally. The menu is primarily southern comfort food. I tried the fried green tomatoes, and they were fantastic. For my meal, I had the cranberry & pecan chicken salad that I loved. I also had carrot soup, which is something that I have never tried. It was so tasty. New South Kitchen & Bar is a restaurant that I highly recommend.

Me & my husband had a really great first time experience here, wonderful atmosphere, amazing fast service, & the food was out of this world tasty. Would highly recommend going there, I recommend the fried catfish & the Pimento cheese starter dish.

This is a great upmarket spot for dinner or lunch. Cosy and comfortable decor in a convenient location. I had lunch with a group of friends. We were seated in a timely manner and our server was discreet but attentive to our needs. The fried cob salad with corn was delicious.

I’m not sure why we’ve waited so long to try New South Kitchen, but I’m glad we finally dined here! Nicole was our sever and we could tell that we were getting service with a smile — even with a mask covering it. She did a great job of making recommendations when we asked about her favorite menu items. Warm biscuits and butter are served with the meal in true Southern fashion. We started with a small plate of Baked Pimiento Cheese with red pepper marmalade and wonton chips. It was gooey and delicious— with the marmalade taking the flavor to the next level. For our entree, we enjoyed the Chicken & Waffles. The waffle was Belgian style and SO LIGHT! Most chicken and waffles I’ve had in the past were served with syrup but these were served with gravy and warmed jalapeño jelly as a counterpoint. Nicole wisely suggested that we order the jelly on the side so that we could control how much jalapeño heat we wanted with each bite — and she was right. The jelly does have a bit of a kick. All in all, the meal was delicious and the service was excellent. And with many items on the menu that we’d still like to try, we look forward to returning. We used Open Table to make our reservation and were happy to see upon arrival that they were separating guests by only using every other table. We also witnessed the servers going the extra mile in cleaning each table as each party left.

Amazing risotto with a delicious aoli that brought a wonderful brightness to the rich, creamy but nicely aldente rice. It was, I believe, the best risotto I have ever had.

My wife and I love this place. Great food and service. The fried oysters are excellent as well as the shrimp and grits. It is a good to restaurant for us. can't wait to go back.

Fresh & Local. Everything we had was fantastic! If you are reading reviews here, you already know what this place is about so I will spare you further explanation.

We shared: Brie & Crackers, Shrimp and Grits, Grilled Romaine, and (awesome) Penne Mac & Cheese along with a couple of local beers. The food was dynamite, and all (except the Brie) from a short menu they use during weird hours like Sunday afternoon before dinner. So many places are CLOSED during this time, so I applaud them for being open.

Our server was great, too!

Enjoyed sitting outside in the nice weather, wish it was more ambient than an active shopping center parking lot. Maybe some iron railing would help? Plants?

Sadly, we saved no room for dessert - the choices sure sounded good. We've already made a plan to return!

A wonderful surprise. After looking at Queen's Feast menus, we came to New South. It was delicious. Starting with the Old Fashioned all the way to dessert, our group enjoyed each bite. The server was friendly and attentive. We'll be back.

I love New South! The food is always exceptional, atmosphere is great as well! Always worth the money, and portion sizes are generous. My only complaint is the service last time was something be desired. It must have been a fluke b/c usually the service is as delicious as the food!

Excellent Experience. We ate at this restaurant last Saturday. The New Southern Cuisine theme was what attracted us to the restaurant. There was plenty of parking and it's located in a shopping center so it's easy to find. There was no wait for a table though the restaurant was busy. I rate restaurants experiences based three things; Food, Service and Atmosphere.

Food - We ordered two appetizers for the table. The pork spring rolls were very tasty far better than I expected them to be! Fried green tomato's are one of our favorite dishes and the ones prepared here did not disappoint. Very tasty also! I ordered the pan fried chicken for my entree. I'm not sure I would call what I was served pan fired. It was more sauteed than fried. Part of that may be on me, as I was thinking Southern Fried Chicken when I ordered it. One bite however eliminated any regrets on my part. It was delicious. It was served with seasoned mash potatoes and green beans. The chicken was seasoned boneless breasts covered with a light batter and covered in a light white sauce/gravy along with the mashed potatoe . The portion sizes were generous and pleasantly plated. My wife had the sliced turkey breast. She was quite happy with it. I had a taste of it also. The turkey was very moist and served with dressing, cranberries, and mashed potatoes. Nicely prepared and plated also. Dessert was a shared chocolate tort. Very rich but very good also. On a scale of 1-10 with ten being the best I rate the food at 9. It was good!

Service- Our waiter was efficient though he forgot a couple of things asked for and had to be reminded. Not a major mistake. The meal took a while to come out of the kitchen, but the place was busy and the wait was appropriate given the number of diners and the diner hour. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best I'd rate the service as a 7.

Atmosphere - This restaurant looked clean, table settings were neat and orderly, and the decor more or less standard restaurant design with an eye toward an upscale look. 1 - 10, I'd give the atmosphere a 7 also.

We will definitely go back here again. The menu had a lot of good options and I'm looking forward to sampling more of them!

AWEFUL. If these people call this good southern food then I am ashamed to call myself a southerner. Food was bland. IT ALSO WAS NOT FRESH!! We had the meat loaf, and shrimp and grits. Yuck!! Talk about poor quality and taste. The grits were soupy, watery. The meat loaf tasted like a ball of meat with ketchup on it. I ate what I was given but I wish I would not have wasted my time or money. They can take my picture, I will not be back.

BE CAREFUL OTHER WEBSITE ARE PADDED BY OWNER AND STAFF

Don't Waste Your Time. I will NEVER go back to this restaurant again! I went with a large group, and naturally, the childrens food arrived first, but then other parents food came, but my food, along the food of the two women I was sitting with did not come. We waited, thinking it would be out soon, but it NEVER came! We talked to two servers, and waited a FULL hour and a half, but the food never came! Finally my husband had to go track down the manager, who was extremely rude. Instead of being apologetic, and willing to fix the problem, she got defensive, and told him it wasn't her fault, and that they were busy that night. When the food finally came a full two hours after we ordered it, we just had it boxed up, and left. Worst Service Ever.

Major sanitary issues. Came in on a busy Friday night, grabbed a hi-top table in the bar. We ordered and in 9 minutes we received someones Chicken tenders appetizer. I was expecting someone to notice, like our server, but after 10 minutes of the plate on the table I told a Manager. He removed the plate, laughed and thanked me, then handed the plate to another server who immediately took it to another table in the bar. We were disgusted and passed on the rest of our food.

Too bad.. seemed like it was going to be great.

This is all about Management/Ownership

I enjoyed my experience at New South Kitchen. I had the fried green tomatoes and meatloaf. Both were fantastic. The dessert was amazing. I had the pound cake and my husband had the pecan bread pudding and they were both wonderful. I will go back again

The service is terrible, the food is mediocre at best; add to that the fact that the food is overpriced and you get a disappointing experience.

This place is great! Great fresh food, friendly staff, fantastic options and specials that change weekly. Definitely one of our favorite spots!

Poor customer experience. Screaming children ruined otherwise good meal. When owner was asked to handle problem she refused, saying it was "awkward" for her. Our table of six will not be back.

Delicious brunch. Great flavored. Homemade biscuits and gravy amazing. Will definitely come back. Should be busier for Sunday brunch .

My first time there for brunch was excellent, so when I returned I ordered the same thing, but it wasn't quite as good the second time. It was the BLT omelette. It was SO good the first time, but when I went back it had too much spinach, the eggs were runny & not enough bacon. Will return, but will try something different next time.

Tries too hard. The food is meant to be upscale southern food, which is difficult to pull off. We had the meatloaf and the pan fried chicken special. Meatloaf was good but not a $15 dish. The potato cakes were a highlight. The pan fried chicken had a bland breading and the potatoes could have come from a box. If you want good southern food in Charlotte go to Mert's in downtown.

Awful food!!!. I just can't believe this restaurant had such a wonderful reviews from people!!! My family and I went there and I am hoping that we don't get sick. This restaurant is awful; the food is probably the worst I have ever had!! Please note that the restaurant is pretty pricey! I would never ever ever go back there again!

Fried green tomatoes were a little mushy. The lemon grilled chicken sandwich was awesome. The goat cheese really made the sandwich. The fries are good and crunchy. All the food was very fresh. My mom got the biscuits and gravy, which was a tad bit too salty, but still had a good flavor. Fried blueberry pie was surprisingly good. All in all, I will definitely be back.

We came for my mother in laws birthday today. Everything was outstanding. I think this is my new favorite place! Southern cuisine brought up to date. Service was great too.

Always consistent. I visited them for restaurant week. I had been a while since I have been there and nothing has changed. Everything was still very good. I especially recommend the meat loaf. However the really need to do something about how hot it gets in the early evening in the restaurant it does make it very uncomfortable,

While the service left a bit to be desired, the food was fantastic! I'll consider the service a function of the mandatory tip that came with my coupon, but I'll definitely come back.

The New South Kitchen and Bar has a new approach to Southern cuisine that utilizes quality fresh ingredients from local farms. Many of their dishes are inspired by Southern classics but I still want to see what more this restaurant can do.
First Bite
I spent last weekend in Charlotte and got to do some shopping, participated in a 5K heart walk, and visited New South Kitchen & Bar . I basically decided on this place based on some online buzz and a promising-looking menu, and I was expecting New it to m
