A reasonably new Spanish menu option in CLT. Very good food quality & excellent service. They have a two item lunch option for $12.95. The lentil soup is simply spectacular. The Cuban sandwich is also quite good. We were a bit disappointed by the paella lunch option. The rice wasn’t cooked right. That’s the only reason they don’t get 5 stars. But everything else made up for it. And the service was fast & friendly. We’ll return but we won’t order the lunch paella.
This was my first time at Bulla. My wife and I had a great time. We did not have a reservation so we sat at the bar, which is the best place to eat Tapas. The bar area is really nice and the bartenders were helpful and attentive. Don't be discourage if you don't sit at a table. The dining room is nice and it has a great ambiance. Great latin music. Overall the food was delicious. Couple of dishes were not as good as I would have hoped. We ordered a pitcher of sangria which can be shared with 3-4 people. It was refreshing. Potato tortilla was delicious and flavorful. It came with ajioli sauce which it tasted more like mayonnaise rather than ajioli sauce. The potato tortilla by itself was really good. The sautéed garlic shrimp was awesome. The bombas (seasonal item) were great as well. The grilled octopus (seasonal item) was the low note. I did not realize this dish was not just the Octopus. Let me try to dissect this dish. The octopus alone was really good. It came with a purée corn sauce which was really good; however I don't think it was a good pairing. The two alone were fantastic, but not together. The grilled octopus I believe it should be simpler. The churros tasted good but i was expecting the more traditional churros. These churros were not crispy enough. Overall this is a great place to have a good time and enjoy tapas. So give it a try!
Great tapas restaurant. Stylish interior, great service. All food we tried was excellent. Small plates, we had ceviche which was outstanding and the chorizo stuffed dates also tasty. We has a chacuterie board which was a little stingy with the meat quantity for the price, but tasty. Main dish we tried was Paella which was excellent but 15 bucks upcharge to add octopus which was a small portion. Their burger was excellent as well. Overall an excellent dining experience.
i went to Bulla with about 14 friends from work. My first visit. The menu had some really different items that I wasn’t sure about. But the food I tried was amazing. Paella, quest fundido with chorizo, a brisket small plate, and my favorite—chorizo stuffed dates then wrapped in bacon. The only dish i didn’t try but that someone in our group didn’t like was the cannelloni. To drink, the seasonal sangria was great. Staff very nice and helpful. I can’t wait to go back.
My friend and I wanted a tapas experience and decided to try this place. It was very welcoming and awesome!
The waiter, Alexis, was helpful with my 2 allergies (corn, black pepper) and gave good information about everything. My friend is a professional cateress and was as impressed as I was with the dishes we were brought and the wine suggestions.
The choices were extensive and there was a standard entree menu as well.
We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the quiet atmosphere.
We will definitely come here again!
Restaurant was nice, food was good but it took forever to get our drinks. We were eating with still no drinks. Our reservation was early in the evening and the place was fairly empty so don’t see why it took the bar so long to make our drinks. The food was pretty good though. Paella rice was a bit on the sticky side.
Great place to take your friends for lunch. Lots of choices and good food. Parking a little tough. Taking my granddaughters for my third visit.
We were in Charlotte on a Saturday to attend my son’s MBA graduation party that was being held near South Park Mall. We got in town for lunch and selected the Bulla Gastropub from the many restaurants located in and around the mall. We were in the mood for Spanish Tapas and Bulla delivered “with a trip to Spain without traveling thousands of miles” as our water Grant stated.
First of all the restaurant is very well appointed inside with booths, tables, a nice big bar and a small private dining room in the back. We were seated by the hostess who made sure the table was ready prior to seating. Grant came to the table full of energy and right away you knew you were in for a service treat just by his smiling, friendly, caring and “I take pride in my work” attitude. We were not familiar with the wine menu and asked about an oaky buttery chardonnay. Grant recommended the Landmark Overlook Chardonnay $12 which delivered on all notes. I was in the mood for a local draft beer and Grant mentioned several again that I was not familiar with. I said I would give the Pinta Legion Project Pils $7 a try and he brought me a taste of it to be sure it was to my liking. Talk about service !!! Ordering an unknown beer and not thoroughly enjoying it can be disappointing, but not so here.
The tapas menu meats included Iberian Ham $16 and Serrano ham, cured pork, Chorizo, Iberian Pork, and an Iberian Sausage (which is what I selected) all priced at $6.5. The cheeses included Idiazabal, Tetilla, Mahon, Leonora, Manchego (what we selected) and Murcia Al Vino all of which were priced at $6.5. The cheese and meat were served together on a wooden platter with toasted bread crisps that had olive oil on them. The platter also had some quince jam to spread over them which added another dimension to the dish. Lastly we selected the chicken Pintxos $8.0 skewers that were marinated and cooked with a variety of herbs and served with a yogurt dipping sauce. These were the surprise home run of the day with the tender and moist chicken pieces all crusted with a wonderful herb combination. There also was a brunch menu option where you could select one item from two, or three different categories each with many dining options.
Grant’s service was well above excellent as we had an opportunity to witness this on the table behind us. There were three children and a mom who all were ordering something different, however each order was substituting one or more items from the menu. The children had some difficulty selecting from the many options Grant thoroughly presented, recommended and patiently repeated. It was the most complicated order I have ever seen in any restaurant anywhere. Grant took all of this enthusiastically in stride and their order was delivered perfectly with all diners being very happy.
The Bottom Line
There are many dining options available around South Park Mall and with this competition, you had better deliver on all notes from start to finish. Bulla did so with flying colors in all categories and the food quality was more than excellent. Plus Grant is one of the best waiters I have ever seen anywhere in the world. There are MANY dining options on the menu, and from the table behind us it appears there are even many more do it yourself combinations available that will definitely bring you back for another “trip to Spain” and that is the Bottom Line !!!
Got to experience this hidden gem located in southpark and my taste buds were over joyed. The
Menu features small plates that are perfect for sharing . For the first course I had a kale Caesar salad which was different but the dressing was good. The second course was the bulla burger which was cooked medium served with patatas bravas the burger was cooked perfect and juicy. Last but not least finished with dessert which was coconut flan served with passion fruit sorbet and seasonal fruit. I would return service was prompt and informative.
Delightful evening with friends; terrific service. Loved the mainly Spanish wines. Tapas varieties interesting and could only try 3. Back ASAP.
I came here for the tapas and was not disappointed! I was seated in a booth and the server was very attentive and described his favorite items
I had the grilled steak, ceviche, and another great dish. The ceviche was my favorite! Can’t wait to go back for round two next time I’m in Charlotte
Beyond excellent and a very good price point. Manager and sever were very attentive. Split five small plates and one dessert between two people and it was more than enough.
My daughter and I had an early dinner there after a long shopping spree at the next-door mall. We started with the Crispy Calamari and Montaditos which are brisket sliders that had tomato marmalade and tasty green peppers. They were so delicious! We decided to go for garlic shrimp after that. The manager came around for a friendly chat and gave us a complimentary dessert and we decided on flan. We left happy and re-energized. I strongly recommend this restaurant for tapas.
Bulla is amazing. We came here during the Queens Feast! We will be coming back. If you love tapas and mediterranean food - this is a must!
The meats, cheeses, paella, sangria, wine and cocktails.
Cant wait to try their brunch soon!
We stopped in for lunch and only wished we lived in Charlotte so that we could try everything on the Tapas menu! Everything we ordered was presented beautifully and tasted out of this world. OUr waiter gave us some good recommendations and was just attentive enough. My boyfriend's ice tea glass was never empty, which is very important to him when we eat out. I enjoyed hte Sangria, white and Red, and although both were very good, the Red (roja) was by far the best. We had the chicken skewers with yogurt sauce and the seasoning was perfect. We also had the Verde salad -pleasantly surprised my boyfriend who is not a Kale fan. One of our waiter's recommendations was the smoked salmon plate with cream cheese, capers and truffle honey. I'm so glad we tried this. That truffle honey made the dish; i'm going to have to find some of that stuff on Amazon! If i'm ever back in Charlotte, i will definately visit this gem of a restaurant again!
Reggie Rights: Rarely do I review and only with good reason. The food was outstanding... I asked for recommendations and received 2: The montaditos for protein and the potato tortilla for carbs. They were both memorable. The service was likewise outstanding. I would recommend this restaurant to the discernible foodie and the fussies. For all of those in-between, you'll have a great experience.
We celebrated my wife’s birthday today. This was our first visit. This place is right next door to Cowfish.
We all ordered different entrees. I had the Spinach Salad with Delicious Beets Of Red and Yellow, Candied Walnuts and yummy tasting Goat Cheese. The dressing was perfectly distributed and the salad was a large portion. Then I had the salmon medallions cooked medium rare with delicious spinach, Chic Peas and a white sauce. My wife had the Octopus Salad which she enjoyed and my daughter had the Kale Salad with Mandarin Oranges. Our server’s name is Danuyelle and she was very professional and described the menu meticulously. We look forward to coming back real soon. The restaurant is large and is perfect for the persons trying to get in and out in one hour. They do not rush you at all and they have a private dining room for company events.
First time doing Tapas - think all the appetizers you can eat - LOL - went with another couple - tried a lot and liked it all - finished with a chicken Paella- which was excellent - the tuna tartare was incredible- if you’ve never tried it - give it a shot
Nice atmosphere - Good sangria
Bulla is a wonderful tapas restaurant. My wife and I had the brunch menu on Sunday. Had the avocado toast-avocado bread with heirloom tomatoes, Idiazabal, and multi grain bread. It was very tasty. My wife had the watermelon salad with watermelon chunk, roman tomatoes, crispy serrano, truffle honey and spanish goat cheese. We both thad the Bulla Benedict: poached eggs with hollandaise sauce, crispy charros, and asparagus. For dessert we had the charros con chocolate-crispy fried dough with chocolate sauce. Excellent. Recommend the brunch!
After Spain, Bulla is the only place we have had genuine tapas. The Paella, Patatas and the Gambas were delicious, flavorful and quite authentic. .
The ambiance is excellent and the service very prompt.
An excellent restaurant for a stylish and enjoyable dining experience.
