Review Church And Union Charlotte - Charlotte

This is a FAVORITE for my husband and I. We have been here about 4 times already and have never had a bad experience. We don't come for a full sit-down meal. We have always stopped by for a drink and appetizer before we head to our destination. We have always found seating at the bar when we arrive, and the bartenders are always super friendly. We love their mussels! The spices that they are mixed into just make the mussels taste delicious, and the bread that it comes with is always nice and soft. It is on the pricier side, but I definitely feel like it's worth it for a nice night out. We have tried their fries, and I believe their burger as well and NO COMPLAINTS. Everything we have tried has been delicious. If you would like to have a good sit-down meal, I would highly recommend a reservation as every time we have stopped by, it's always busy. They do have a parking deck and valet parking as well. If not, some street parking is always an option if you are able to snag a spot. The restaurant itself is super classy and def. An opportunity to get all dolled up!

From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with impeccable service, with five attentive staff members ensuring our every need was met. With a reasonably priced bottle of champagne, the atmosphere was set for a memorable dining experience. Our server, think his name was Butters, was an absolute delight, guiding us through the menu with expert recommendations. The poke bowl, chicken ravioli, and steaks, cooked to perfection, were juicy, flavorful, and truly lived up to the restaurant's reputation. Every bite was a symphony of textures and tastes, leaving us wanting more. The crowd was chic/trendy, just like us. I will come again.

Great experience! Steve was an incredible server and took great care of our group. The food was phenomenal from apps to entrees to dessert. This place is a don’t miss! The prix fixe menu was perfect to try multiple things on the menu! Steve had great recommendations! Can’t wait to go back!

My friend made reservations for dinner, group of 8. They seemed confused and we got sat in awkward narrow tables. I think they forgot we were there as we didn't have an assigned waiter. Once they realized they forgot, we did get a waiter who was attentive. The atmosphere is very nice and the food was delicious.

Shrimp and grits had bacon and a sliced lemon on top. A sprinkle of lemon is all you need or else you are getting lemon shrimp and grits. The servers were amazing and the music gave me a social chill vibe! Flew in town for a party so I came alone, but felt warmly embraced bh the hostess/bartender team while sitting at the bar! Definitely a place to try. Make reservations if you can or else you may have to wait.

Seen a food influencer I follow on social media and he spoke about Church and Union. My Wife and I been wanting to try new places, get out and see the city more. So I was like why not try this place?! FIRST THING FIRST, MAKE RESERVATIONS TO SAVE YOURSELF HEADACHES OF WAITING! We made our reservations and glad we did, it was pretty full. The atmosphere was nice and laidback, had a low light vibe(think a jazz club feel) just not really dark..lol. Our waiter was really nice, he was very punctual and checking in on us. The flight mimosas was good, not the best we had before. But definitely worth getting, I think the flavors wasn’t my favs(pineapple, white cranberry, cranberry and orange juice). I ordered the Apple Bacon Omelette and it was good. But the star of my brunch was the FRENCH TOAST!!!! It was so dang good! I couldn’t stop eating them, definitely want that again. My Wife had the Brunch Burger and she said it was really good! I’m glad we stopped by and it was a bust. Can’t wait to come back and I hope others try this place out👍🏿

This restaurant is REALLY DARK at night! But the vibe is cool and laid back. Our server was very attentive and gave great recommendations. I tried the tater tot caviar. The tots overpowered the caviar 3/5. My restaurant week menu app was chicken karagge 4/5. I didn’t eat the salmon until the next day but the risotto was really good 5/5. Then for dessert the peach buckle 2/5. I want to come back and try the brunch. The drinks are tasty, but not strong.

Quaint restaurant with Southern charm. Very nice ambience for a date or family outing. I had the fried chicken biscuit and a blueberry lemon drop martini. For starters, the southern fried chicken was amazing. I’m always nervous and out chicken breasts bc mine have been try in the past but this one was fried to perfection and my the biscuit was really good as well. It was soft and buttery. The sausage gravy tasted really good with the perfect amount of cheese. Lemon drops are my go to drink but I wanted to try a different flavor. The blueberry may be my new favorite it was nice and strong without being overly sweet or strong. We had a large party but our server was amazing and attentive down to the smallest detail. Give them a try you won’t be disappointed. Make sure you try to find street parking if you can!!!!!

I was in the mood for steak, and I got exactly what I wanted. Ordered the Delmonico steak medium temp. It was cooked perfectly, lots of flavor. Had fries and brussel sprouts on the side. Restaurant wasn't as busy for a Saturday night, like I recall on previous occasions. Our waiter was great. Was celebrating a birthday, we rcvd a glass of complimentary champagne and they gave a nice small birthday dessert surprise. It was a slice of Tres Leches, super dry,not very good, but the gesture was appreciated.

Great location in uptown...very trendy! The food and drinks were delicious. Service was s.l.o.w. Took an hour and a half for brunch. Fortunately we were with family so it was time well spent.

My first time eating here everything was perfect. Maybe slight miscommunication with the staff on what drinks are served on certain days but overall the food was amazing!!!

I for starters, the potato and leek soup is a must have. The steak was amazing and the rest of my party raved about the Jerk fried chicken. The atmosphere is pleasant parking is really not that great but the food is absolutely worth the hassle.

Food was amazing, server was nice and helpful with his recommendations since we had never been there. Hubby said lamb burger was great. The flight of mimosas were stellar. Will be back.

Fantastic! Spent our anniversary here and were delighted with the food, favors, drinks and service. 10/10

The food here is incredible. I did the $50 pre fixe menu and it’s a great value for what you get. The caviar tots are so good and the steak had such a lovely flavor and nice crust. The drinks are a little pricey but they are good. The service was very good and even though it was very busy since it was Saturday night everything came in a timely fashion. Would definitely recommend for a fun night out.

The hubby and I had a great date night here on Tuesday! We are regulars, but Tuesday was especially spectacular. Their updated menu is AMAZING. We sat at the bar and had phenomenal service. Jesse is very knowledgeable & creative—he exceeded our expectations.

This is literally my favorite brunch spot every time I come here the chicken biscuit is a hit and the mimosa flights are top tier. The decor is stunning as well

Had one of the better steaks I've ever had here. The ambiance is trendy yet casual. The staff are all attentive and helpful, knowledgeable about the menu as well. The filet, sides (get the Yukon potatoes!), wine selection and desserts are all fantastic. The prices are what you would expect for a five dining restaurant, though the food and service are not quite up to the price point. Overall I would highly recommend a dinner here.

Wow! This place is amazing, the flavors are outstanding. I recommend the Moonshine Mule, Prime Beef meatballs for starters, Lamb burger and Keta ( Salmon ) for the main. 30 second walk from the market and worth driving to. The atmosphere is breathtaking, an old church that has been redone to perfection. Our waitress Alyssa had so much knowledge about the food it made for a perfect evening.

The experience at 5Church was less than desirable. The restaurant itself looks cool; has a nice ambiance - I do like the decor and the interior design in there. Even though our reservation was at 6:00 and we got there at 5:50pm, we were seated closer to 6:15pm when there were several open tables. It is restaurant week and probably overwhelming. This is the fourth restaurant we went to within the last two weeks during Queen's Feast. At every restaurant, we always ask the server their opinions on the food. The response we got at this restaurant made us feel like the server didn't really know the food other than the up-charge of 2 second courses. At all other restaurants, we were always told 2-3 dishes that they thought were amazing for Queen's Feast. Apparently 4 out of the 5 second courses are their best sellers on the regular menu; the server could not speak for the food other than that statement. The S'mores Truffle and the Chocolate Pretzel Bar were recommended for third course. First course: Yellowfin Tuna Tartare. The soy citrus vinaigrette didn't work for me, but that's just my preference. What I really did not like is that Asian vegetable salad was over seasoned with salt and the peas were really undercooked and hard, almost not edible. The Vietnamese Dry Aged Meatballs was disappointing. Taste profile is off - I can't quite wrap my mind around why but I did not find it delicious. I did not desire the dryness of the 3 meatballs that were served. Just not something that I feel is Asian-inspired dish. Second course: Seared Sea Scallops. First, the menu online is a lie. The supplement cost of this is $10 tonight instead of the $5 that is posted. You literally get 4 scallops and nothing else. That's fine if they were magnificent. They weren't - the scallops were gritty as if it is seafood that was not washed/cleaned properly. Super underwhelming dish and really not sure how the $10 addition could be justified in an already $35 meal price of the caliber of dish. Seared Yellowfin Tuna. Not bad but nothing exciting either. When I go to a restaurant that has a high review in a local magazine, I am expecting a little more extraordinary. Third course: Out of all the dishes tonight, the Coconut Lime Mousse is the ONLY dish that both my husband and I liked. And it is the only dish that was not recommended when we asked about the courses. I find this a little alarming. Great dessert, by the way. We also ordered S’mores Trifle. While it is ok, we weren't exactly thrilled about it... probably affected by our experience of all the meals at this point. We're not sure what happened to our car. The valet attendant went to get it in the lot... and while he did that, I realized our car was actually parked illegally in front of a parking garage by the restaurant. I'm glad I was able to spot the car and had a spare key to get in (it was raining) - the poor guy ran around the lot and couldn't find our car, after 10 mins finally came back. I am hoping our car wasn't just parked illegally there... Thank goodness it wasn't towed - that's really all we cared about, getting home safely. Overall, I actually wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Don't get me wrong, the staff was "nice" but I'm not sure about helpful. When I eat at restaurants, I do think that in a lot of great restaurants, the servers generally have a good idea on the best dishes to recommend and are usually correct in those recommendations. My husband and I have very different tastes, but over all, neither of us were impressed. From reading other customers' faces and how several plates were sent back, I'm not sure if other folks were impressed as well. I am honestly shocked about all this - seeing it on the 2018 top 50 restaurants; I cannot vouch for the food there. Food presentation, interior design - 5 stars. 1-2 stars for everything else. (We didn't have drinks, can't speak to that.)

Hands down my favorite restaurant uptown. Rather going for brunch or dinner it's never a let down. For dinner the mouth watering filet is an excellent choice. They have the best selection of cocktails around. My personal favorite was the Ready Orgreat, it's a must try! Our server Kaelee was fantastic, very friendly, attentive, and speedy

Decor is great and the Restaurant Week menu was tasty. There was no vegetarian option offered on the RW menu so some of our party had to order off the regular menu, which they did. The eggplant picatta was delicious.

Unfortunately really disappointed. I was there last about five years ago when they opened and it was fantastic. Finally got back to going again and the whole meal was a bummer. Boyfriend ordered paella and half of the muscles were not opened in the dish. I ordered lamb and sweet potato gnocchi which was very expensive and only mediocre. Lamb was cooked nicely but gnocchi was hard as a rock. Very expensive cocktail was delicious but the beer was not cold. Our server on the other hand was very kind and accommodating. Hope they get their act back together because it used to be a great restaurant in my opinion.

Went to Charlotte for a girls weekend and stayed next door at The Ivey's Hotel and ate almost every meal at 5Church! It's just that good!! Got the Belgium waffles for brunch, which had the most delicious chia tea syrup on it! Went back for dinner and got the watermelon and heirloom tomato salad then the crispy chicken paired with a viper to drink! Thoroughly enjoyed every bite!! Such a fun atmosphere, highly suggest!

This was my second time there and I had made this reservation for our group of friends for one of the girls birthday. The bathroom smelled like sewage and made us not very hungry after going in there. The menu didn’t have a lot to pick from and was very overpriced for what it did have. A couple of us ordered the lamb burger and it had a strange flavor. Just too gamey. We tried the chocolate pretzel bar which was tasty but for $9 we thought it would’ve been a bigger piece. A nicely decorated restaurant, but definitely needs the bathroom situation fixed and a better bigger menu. Don’t think we’ll be back.

Good atmosphere, food & drinks. Suggest skipping Tues nights though if you have a specific wine in mind to drink. Most had run out so was limited choice, however still good at the end of the day. Really got busy around 7:30pm & reservations would have been needed even for the bar. Well worth a visit

Great place to eat. Very beautiful environment. Decor absolutely stunning. Gabriel James suggested this and she did not disappoint. We will definitely stop there again.

My husband and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary by staying at The Ivey’s (over the top, amazing). We bought a package which included dinner at 5 Church. Everything was set up by Vinny at The Ivey’s. Our reservation was at 6:30 on a Saturday, not super busy inside. The food (as always) was great. The service however, was bad. I was really disappointed. Our server, Shelley B, was not warm, or friendly. She never introduced herself, or welcomed us at all. She knew it was our anniversary (because it was set up in advance). She acted uninterested. All our dishes were brought out by other servers, who were more friendly and kind. It was so frustrating that we had that experience, on our 10 year anniversary. We wanted a special night, and Shelley B ruined the dinner part. Sad. Maybe it was her first day. Wish we had better service

Very beautiful space and food and cocktails were exceptional our server David was very helpful and attentive.

I was in Charlotte for only a few days, but with a diary allergy eating out can be stressful. The staff was very accommodating and understanding. I ate a stress free and delicious meal. Our waiter was attentive and checked on my options without hesitation. Thanks for a great experience!

Excellent and good variety of food choices for the Brunch Menu and in addition to looking good on the menu, the food was absolutely delicious in taste and presented with a nice flair. Would return each and every weekend if possible!!! Service was exceptionally good but we did make reservations and give ourselves plenty of time before attending the afternoon play at the Belk Theater.

This place was amazing! Service, food, atmosphere were all great! It was my husband's birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. Try the "60 second steak!"

Wouldn’t truly brag about this place... very cool environment, but limited menu choices and food was just OK. I wanted to love it, I really did.
