Maria and I attempted to go to Halcyon on a cold rainy night last fall. I was rocking crutches at the time and it was a bit of a pain to get around, but I was excited to try a restaurant that has been on my list for a long time. We didn’t make reservations because we were having a major storm in the city that night and didn’t expect there to be much of a crowd. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. We arrived at the restaurant and were immediately asked if we had reservations and upon us saying that we did not, we were told that they were booked the whole night. They did have some visibly open tables while we stood at the hostess podium but I can only assumed that they were reserved for a customer that had yet to arrive. I hobbled outside to the lobby to figure out our next move. We were limited in options at this end of Uptown Charlotte, by the weather, and my crutches limited us even more. I pulled up my handy dandy OpenTable app to look for options and lo and behold Halcyon had open tables listed in the next 15 mins. We stood there scratching our heads when one of the hostesses came out to ask if we were waiting for a table (funny considering this same person just turned us away). At this point I shared my app results and the hostess ran back in to talk to the manager. She comes out a few minutes later and apologizes that ‘my’ app was wrong and wishes us a goodnight. And that ladies and gents was my first experience with Halcyon. But one thing I must admit is that a foodie on a mission never gives up.

Lovely meal on the terrace. We ate lunch at Halcyon on the outside terrace before visiting the Mint Museum. The terrace is far above the traffic and provides a nice view of the city. I had the ribeye steak sandwich special. It was very tasty. My husband had the PoBoy special made with skate, which he also enjoyed. My mother had the Seafood Bouillon and she raved about it. I also had the chocolate mousse cake with blackberries. Good service, nice ambience outside and in. We will be back!

I had a lovely lunch before touring the Mint Museum. The restaurant provides a great view of the tall buildings downtown in a very trendy setting. When the chef's bread selection of the day arrived it was popcorn with Turkish spices. Interesting. The waiter was very knowledgable & efficient. The lunch options were varied and offered interesting options but were obviously not priced for the ordinary, daily lunch.
I loved the option on the dessert menu of a truffle which was served with 2 raspberries & a mint leaf. What a great idea for just a taste of something sweet.

Date night. #Eurofusion #Locavores. Located on the second floor of the mint museum, this restaurant's tall windows and outdoor patio offer a lively view of the city. I took my boyfriend here after seeing it on the homepage and glancing over the menu. Anywhere you sit seems to offer a good view and the seats are super comfy. They offer three different types of water(for all you fancy pants out there). I work with wine, cheese, and beer for a living and I did want to order wine until I saw the prices. I recognized some of the names and they up charged some of the bottles 100% more expensive my store charges. I want to respect mixology, but I just can't force myself into the scene so I didn't try any of their cocktails. Food in my alcohol? No thanks. However...
My food was AMAZING! It made me so happy! I ordered the Choucroute. My boyfriend ordered the soup and my boyfriend ordered the chevre ravioli. I was an exchange student in Auvergne, France and I think the chef is definitely familiar with that region's cuisine. He got everything perfect. The duck was perfect! My boyfriend told me he didn't like duck and he tried it and loved it. Plenty of meat and carbs served with cornichons, dijon, and pickled red onions. It brought me back to Auvergne. I was really surprised they even gave me a Laguiole to cut up my game sausage. I wish I had enough room to order dessert, but I ate all of my food. They don't have their dessert menu online, but I'm curious to see what kind of sweets they had. I finished everything with a single shot of espresso instead. If I were to go back I would just order their different appetizers and split them with a friend.
Definitely a great place for a date, girl's night out, or a meeting. Don't bring your kids. Dress up or you'll feel out of place.

Cool place, great atmosphere. I normally wouldn't be drawn to a place like this because I thought it would be a little stuffy for my taste. But it wasn't, it was just a beautiful restaurant with good food. The service is great too. I had a chicken salad sandwich that was great. The burgers looked good too!

Delicious food with a first-rate view. We were grateful Halycon was not participating in Restaurant Week and decided to make our second visit. As others have stated, the decor is very cool with chandeliers made of branches and tables that look like elegant tree trunks. You can't beat the view of the city at night, and I'm sure the outdoor dining would be great in good weather.

We decided on a pork belly and Brussels sprouts appetizer. At $10, it was a steal considering the size and flavor. You can never go wrong with pork belly, and the sprouts were a tangy, vinegary surprise. Even though we were trying not to get full before dinner, we ate the whole thing.

Since you can also never have too much pork belly, my fella got the burger for dinner. We thought there was no way the burger could live up to the hype... but we were so glad to be wrong! The bun was sweet - almost donut-esque - and the pork belly/beef were just the right balance of salt. The bacon marmalade was smoky and creamy, and the cheese made the entire dish. It almost doesn't seem right to call this just a burger, so I'm gonna call it a work of culinary art.

I got the fire-roasted chicken, which was fall off the bone tender, and the greens, sweet potatoes and farro balanced it out nicely. I ate all of it plus a bite of the burger. Oh, and some of the fries with homemade (cinnamon-y?) sweet ketchup. Nom nom nom.

Needless to say, we were too full for dessert! I should note that our server was very fun and personable. He made a couple of mistakes (forgot a beer we ordered, messed up the check), but he was so apologetic and nice that it was easily overlooked. I can't recommend Halycon enough!

Great meal. My family and I ate here for brunch after visiting the museum on New Years Eve Day. Excellent service, lovely atmosphere, and great food. Everyone was very pleased with their meal, and we all agrees we'd like to come back to try supper. Love the organic/local concept and was very impressed that they had no freezer on the premises.

The Atmosphere is rustic and comfortable, yet upscale. The service was spectacular - attentive, informational/helpful, and very professional. Lastly, but definitely not least, the food was DELICIOUS! I had beef short ribs with a winter squash purée and sautéed kale; my friend had the phwah burger and said it was one of, if not the best he's ever had (probably would have done very well in the creative loafing burger contest). Portions were very generous, you easily get your money's worth! I'm not sure how many more good things I can say.

This place is on point always! Staff is always friendly! And just get anything mushroom whether it’s the mushroom toast (sauce is fire!) or the cake that looks like a mushroom - what a beautiful display. All veggies dishes are always amazing and cooked to perfection. Only thing that was “meh” was the corn fritters it’s too much breading.

Food and service are top tier. Hubby and I visited for NYE dinner. We chose our selections from the pre-planned 3-course meal. Our main dishes were the grouper and short rib. DELICIOUS and fork tender! Our server Jason took great care of us and kept us informed and entertained. Will be back for happy hour!

I cannot say enough how much I enjoyed my dinner with friends here last night 12/17/21. From the atmosphere and ambiance to the service and the food.. everything was amazing. Our waiter Andy was exceptional and all the food (we literally had almost every small plate and a few of the large ones) was delicious.. hats off to the chef last night.. to get such spectacular dishes out to our table so quickly and nothing was subpar is an amazing effort.. our favorites were the pork belly wraps, the short ribs, Street corn fritters, Paella, and the potatoes. Even the tuna dish which is like a sushi dish and I don't eat sushi was delish Pictures don't do it justice because we started eating before most of them and forgot to even get pics but here are the few we did manage to get.. Not featured is the delicious chocolate ice cream and delicious pomegranate sorbet. Including a pic of our waiter Andy if you can sit in his area 😊.. p.s. he did have his mask on the entire time he just pulled down to snap this pic ❤️ The bar was amazing as well drinks were delish 🥂 😋... Another note I'm not sure if their menu online is completely up to date or if it changes as some of the things we had I don't see so be open to a new menu just in case you do go.. I wasn't disappointed 😊

Easily the best restaurant experience I've had in at least the last two years. Food and service were both outstanding. Our server did a fantastic job explaining the menu to us and providing us with his recommendations - we ordered almost everything he suggested and were not disappointed. The wine list is extensive and very reasonably priced (our server mentioned that the owner is a Level Four Sommelier and it shows!) and the staff is well-versed on pairings. We ordered four small plates and one large, and split between the two of us it was the perfect amount of food - almost too much as we couldn't even think about dessert! We started with the tuna crudo and marveled at how the flavors of the togarashi and sesame perfectly complimented the fish and just exploded in our mouths. Next was the pork belly bulgogi lettuce wraps which we both agreed was our favorite dish. It is served deconstructed with rice, kimchi slaw, peanuts, and a sweet but tangy sauce. I will dream about that pork belly for days! We joked that the corn fritters were easily the fanciest and best hushpuppies that we'd ever had, my only complaint (if you can call it that) is that the flavors of the fritters overshadowed the crema, which was also very tasty. Our last small plate was the hearth roasted mushrooms, and the only dish that I wished was slightly different. Our server described it as "mushroom toast", rosemary herb focaccia topped with boursin and mushrooms. It was slightly awkward to cut and eat, so we made a bit of a mess trying to split it up, and the richness of the bread and cheese slightly overshadowed the mushrooms. I think this dish would really shine in a deconstructed form! For our large plate, we split the chipotle short ribs and oh. my. god. Some of the best short ribs I've ever had. They melt in your mouth, and the chipotle rub adds a very nice building heat. The roasted vegetables that we ordered as the side were also delicious. Our server was able to suggest a lovely red to pair with the short ribs, and he even decanted it for us early on so it could breathe a bit before the arrived. When the check arrived we were shocked at how reasonable it was. Given the level of service, food, and atmosphere, I would fully expect to pay twice as much in most large cities. I cannot recommend Mariposa enough! If we lived in Charlotte, we'd be there weekly.

One of the best dining experiences we've had in recent memory. From the moment we arrived for our anniversary dinner, we were treated like royalty. Mel was our amazing, detail oriented server, and Chef Jonathan whipped up some of the best dishes. We would highly recommend the scallops AND the Grouper, or Trigger fish. Loved the Jalapeno cornbread and ceviche. Everything was fresh and perfectly prepared. Great Uptown location for a romantic or special dinner out. Highly recommended!

Great vegetable forward options for vegan/vegetarians. Nice ambiance. I ordered the Fuego tequila drink, mezze plate, vegetable tagine, candy apple dessert, paella and also the focaccia which I highly recommend (not pictured).

Creative craft cocktails though rather pricey. Matthew is a great mixologist though. Food was well flavored and nicely prepared. Went for Queens Feast week and was not disappointed in the menu offerings. The butternut squash soup is probably THE best I've ever had. The short ribs were excellent but the trout lacked some of the wonderful flavors in the other dishes. It gets 4 stars for 2 reasons 1. the food is supposed to be prepared there, yet they could not make allowances for lactose allergies. Guess they don't have olive oil or are so stuck on using butter that they cannot comprehend how to substitute. 2. this restaurant is actually located on the 2nd floor of the Mint Museum so you can take the elevator or ascend the rather imposing staircase out front. You will not enter the museum although the signs seem to indicate that you are. I had to call them to confirm how to get into the restaurant. Our wait person, Jane, was awesome. Great for a date night if you can get one of the tables near the window. Be prepared to pay for the experience. Honestly, I'm not sure if I'd return based on location, price and lack of food prep flexibility.

Mariposa, which means butterfly in Spanish gives off a very modern vibe . They offer small & large shareables , paired with beautiful lush cocktails . They are located inside of the mint museum downtown . Here they offer a quite extensive & impressive menu . The menu is broken down from small to large shareable categories along with the sides & desserts categorized. Here's a list of the items we chose from the Small shareables . Salmon Rillettes , Wood hearth chicken , Lamb bulgogi lettuce wraps, Elite corn fritters . From the large shareables we chose Piri Piri Chicken , Chipotle crusted short ribs,& Gullah paella . For the sides we went with the Tandori spiced cauliflower , Squash casserole , Crispy Grecian roasted potatoes . Last but not least the desserts we chose were the Burnt Basque cheesecake & Coconut Semifreddo. My absolute favorite dish of the evening was the chipotle crusted short ribs they literally took my breathe away ! If you're looking for a new trendy & modern restaurant definitely check these guys out and the staff is super knowledgeable.
