Review The Original Pancake House - Charlotte

David Blumberg
Original Pancake House located at 4736 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC 28210 is part of a legendary Pancake Chain with some of the best breakfast meals around. They are priced very fairly - not cheap but certainly not expensive. I don’t compare this to IHOP as it is far better than that. I recommend the cherry crepe and do not recommend the Apple pancake as it has far too much brown sugar on it. The Dutch Baby is very good though. My cheese/onion omelette was fluffy and delicious. Service was very good however the kitchen was slammed so it took a bit of time to get our meal. It was well worth the wait. Follow my Google reviews as I have over 300,000 daily viewers and am the very rare level 10.

this is the BEST breakfast place i have ever been to! all the foods are so good, i got the florentine crepes and it was just AMAZING it was so so good! my little sister got strawberry crepes and she says its delectable with delicious strawberries. our server Stephanie was really nice and attentive!

We’ve never walked out without a smile, this place is happiness with every bite. Service is always so friendly and expedient. Very reasonable prices for the area and very tasty. Wide variety of food and healthy options. Shoutout to Norman, one of the most friendliest and best servers we’ve ever had anywhere.

I saw good reviews and wanna visit this place while I stop in North Carolina . I can't say I was impressed. Regular place, reminds me IHOP. The only thing i have been impressed with is real juices. The food was ok, the atmosphere was very crowded ,and I don't think I would be back.

I so happen to be around when I found this place. The wait was not bad, and the prices were great. Didn't take any pics of our dishes but I definitely recommend

Tried this place for the first time. Both hostesses did not made a good first impression- they looked like they hated working there and were not friendly at all. Our server though was luckily very lovely. Food was ok, nothing fancy or special but solid good. It was very crowded and loud as it was packed on a Saturday morning but service and food still was very quick!

Updated review. 10/23/21. We love the ham and scrambled egg breakfast. Try the banana pancakes with the tropical syrup. Delicious! My wife and son and granddaughters went here on New Year’s Day. We had the blueberry pancakes, which were excellent! Also ham and eggs, pancakes and ham and scrambled. Great service. Very busy on Saturdays.

If your going to eat here I highly suggest you join the waitlist online before you leave the house to help with the wait time. This place is very popular so depending on the size of your party the wait can get really long. The servers are nice and they make sure your ok. The place is small so it’s hard to hear your own conversation when your pretty much listening to everyone else’s around you. I personally feel the quantity of the eggs isn’t big enough to eat with the three pancakes/French toast that they give you unless you eat really small pieces with each bite. The Turkey bacon was crunchy and a little too salty. The French toast isn’t that great but the home fries are pretty well seasoned so i guess that makes up for everything else.

One of the very best breakfasts in Charlotte, this was actually the first place we dined when we first moved to the city in 2006 and it's always great to return. Great service today and the food was fab. Eggs Benedict was perfect with potato pancakes. I chose the pecan pancakes and there's just a ton of them here. Delicious and not from some packet! Yum!

I enjoyed the apple pancake there. One of the best breakfast places in town for sure. I was impressed by the good variety of food choices at a very reasonable price.

Great food. I had the Philly cheesesteak omelet and pancakes. Very filling and fresh food. Was seated in a timely manner, waitress was attentive and checkout was seamless.

I enjoy breakfast here. We come here about 1x month. The food is comfort-goodness with a huge assortment of pancakes, crepes, waffles and more. I love the German pancake, oven baked and served with lemon and powdered sugar. The BF loves the cherry crepes! The service this past Sunday was the best! Norman was so good 👍 excellent server, quick, attentive, and on the ball. Can't say enough good things about Norman. If you are in his section, you are in for a treat with his exceptional care.

Great food, reasonably priced. The server was very personable and friendly. She didn't write our order down and forgot a couple of things. The staff was very friendly and inviting. I will go back again.

I had a late breakfast here. I ordered the French Ham and Cheese Omlette with Blueberry Pancakes and was excellent. The chefs done an excellent job with my order and it was expedited timely. My server, Jessica, was professional, courteous and pleasant ! The management should appreciate the efforts of their staff. I look forward to visiting the Original Pancake House soon !

99%of the time there will be a wait especially in the peak mornings. It's a fast wait. Everyone is very friendly. Service is great. Food good lord the options you have are unbelievable. We were a table of 6. In and out in 45 minutes.

Can be a bit noisy and extremely busy but worth the wait at either location. The staff is always wonderful along with the food. Go early on Sundays to beat the church crowd. Once you are able to sit and order, there is very little wait time before the food arrives. The to go orders are also worth it if you're in a hurry.

Original Pancake House had delicious pancakes upon my visit. I had the luxury of visiting this Pancake house during a Carolina Panther game.

Whether it's breakfast or lunch, The Original Pancake House has the best. They have both creative and original pancakes and some of the best you'll ever est. Over the years I've introduced their food to many of my friends and acquaintances with overwhelming rave reviews without exception. I dine there at least once a week. The staff is friendly and attentive to providing excellent service. Even when there's a line out the door the wait is short to be seated or the wait for your meal. Highly recommended <br/>

Honestly, you can get better pancakes out of a box and the coffee is subpar at best. If you like the fake maple scene, this place might be ok for you. It's definitely not terrible, just disappointingly boring and low-quality.
Alex Robinson
Fantastic breakfast food with fast, efficient service. Highly recommend the strawberry pancakes, which are buttermilk pancakes with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. I can't wait to return next time I'm in the Charlotte area.

The food, prices and service are a 4.5. The atmosphere is a little more loud and crowded than we like, but the overall experience was nice. The Benedict Florentine (we subbed extra crispy bacon and they nailed it) was delicious .

Did not enjoy my experience at all. Bought food for 5 people and no one was able to finish their food. Complaints from the eggs tasted bland. Steak was dry. Even the bacon was tough. Can honestly say worst breakfast food I've ever had. Would not recommend.

From a Breakfast Lover. I am a pretty serious breakfast fan and OPH delivers! I can get my fix and for cheap, too. Huge fan of the pecan pancakes combo and they certainly serve a large variety of pancake mixins. A staple restaurant to any breakfast foodies life. :)

I like it. I heard that the wait is long on Sundays. No I would not wait. But greT pancakes and eggs.
Lex
Can't believe this place has a 91%!. This place is not good. Go to IHOP. Eggs are runny and undercooked, pancakes are mediocre, and hashbrowns are burned. I cannot believe this place has a wait, and can't believe it has such positive reviews. Trust a foodie and go elsewhere.

Waffle House is more sanitary & friendly. The first drink glass waitress H.C. gave me had red lipstick on it.<br/>The tea was super, super sweet & had a funky taste to it.<br/>We both got Swedish Pancakes @ $7 each, they were on the menu in the "Pancakes" section, not the section with Crepes & Blintzes, since the menu did not specify it was assumed they would be pancakes & at the least crepes. They turned out to be 3 little burnt paper thin squares that put together did not equal to the weight of one crepe, not even 5¢ worth of batter in all of them. It was awful. The waitress initials H.C. was very, very rude & so was the manager as we were leaving to pay he did not say sorry or offer to correct anything he just said "that's too bad for you guys" which I take as, "hey, that's your problem we do not care."

Meh. My daughter and I made the pilgrimage to OPH for a daddy-daughter Saturday morning date. This OPH is right next to McDonald's, but I have always wanted to try it so I thought, "What the heck?"<br/><br/>We walked in and were greeted right away. The host, however, was not friendly, did not smile, and basically just dumped us off at a table. The waitress was no better. She seemed aloof and going through the motions. I was never asked if I wanted a refill on my drink.<br/><br/>The food was also nothing to write home about. We split the 2x4 (two eggs scrambled, four pancakes). For a restaurant named after pancakes, you would think they could beat the flavor and fluffiness of Hungry Jack. These pancakes tasted more like the "just add water" brand and nothing close to what you find at an old-fashioned diner. The eggs were okay; a bit bland, but nothing to really complain about here. <br/><br/>The waitress was completely shocked that we did not want to add bacon to our meal, but at $3.69 for three slices of bacon, who can blame us?<br/><br/>Overall, the food was acceptable, but together with the below-average service, it was not the kind of quality that keeps me going back to a restaurant. Very disappointed, as I had high hopes.

Hands down best breakfast we have found in Charlotte. We have been four times. The food is excellent and Hope has always been a good waitress to us. Love it!

Hated It! Poor service walking in the door I should have turned around. Sat myself and had to wait 5mins for a menu...the waiter came to take my order and realized I had no menu. I waited for almost 30 mins for a spinach omelette?? Had to flag my waiter down for refills and the last straw was when my waiter reached across my food to give me a refill he spilled tea in my pancakes!!! I told the lady at the register what happen and she acted concerned by offering me more pancakes??? I just told her I would NEVER be back!

Blueberry buckwheat pancakes... Enough said. Amazing.

Our favorite breakfast place in charlotte! Fantastic food, fast and friendly service. You just can't beat it! Their fresh squeezed OJ is amazing! Everything I have tried here is fantastic from the eggs Benedict, crepes, and of course the pancakes.

Great Breakfast Place. My husband first discovered this restaurant a couple of years ago and it has become one of our favorite breakfast places. I am IN LOVE with the Bacon Pancakes (two of my favorite things together.). I have tried dishes of others like the Georgia Pecan Pancakes, the Buckwheat Pancakes and the omelets<br/>and they were good also.<br/> <br/>It gets crowded on the weekends, especially on Sundays after church. If you are an early riser and get there before the crowd, seating is usually no problem.<br/><br/>Even so, we have never had to wait more than 20 minutes and they are kind enough to provide coffee in the foyer waiting area for you. Service has always been good and we like to take out of town guests there a lot.

Potato pancakes and eggs Benedict were quite tasty; restaurant is very noisy

Sad Little BLT.... Maybe it's my fault for NOT getting pancakes on my 1st trip to a place called "The Original Pancake House", but I stopped here for a quick lunch and I LOVE BLT's and thought that a place like this HAD to do a BLT right. Epic fail, to say the least! It was a flat, little, sad looking thing. I've definitely got to go back again and actually try the pancakes because as of right now, this place gets a big thumbs down from me. I also want to try the 2nd location on Charlottetown Ave. I'll revisit & re-vote again if my thoughts change after another visit.

Sunday Night Breakfasts. Great place to wind down the weekend. Eggs Benedict and the Corned Beef Hash are our favs. Serve is always good and there isn't the wait of a Sat morning.
Dan
Whoever said this place is worse than ihop is CRAZY....excellent food and service here. Definitely

If you're in the neighborhood... Good breakfast food with some very interesting choices. We stopped by mid-morning on a Tuesday and didn't have to wait for a table, but did have to wait a while considering we ordered standard breakfast fare in what appears to be a diner atmosphere. Corned beef and hash was a hit. Wait staff wasn't particularly friendly. Overall, not somewhere I'd drive across town for, but if you're nearby, this makes a good stop for a leisurely breakfast.

Of Course. Best Breakfast in Southpark!
Jerry
I believe I must say this but I drove to pineville and prefer ihop over this. I had an omelet with a double stuffing of burnt egg. And a stack of grainy dry pancakes coffee couldn't be worse

Consistent! YES! This many people can not be that wrong.. In all fairness to The Original Pancake House, biscuits and gravy and hash browns and fried apples are more my idea of breakfast. Especially if I take time to eat away from home. I can NOT get those things here. But two or three times each year I meet girlfriends here and it is always, ALWAYS crowded, so, apparently a lot people like their pancakes - or, whatever. This location really has become a Charlotte landmark - as others in its "chain" have closed and/or re-located it has maintained status quo. With consistency. My friends, who LIKE pancakes, tend to order a variety of the menu items. They are never really swept off their feet but they are never disappointed either. One friend orders the silver dollar pancakes. She is a petite gal but she can put away their generous serving of little pancakes. Another friend gets the potato pancakes just because she says she would never attempt to make them at home and they are good here. I tend to get the buckwheat pancakes with some applesauce because I am not big on sweets and the applesauce is a perfect "syrup" for the buckwheat cakes. You can depend on getting a tasty meal here. Prices are affordable. Menu items seem to always be available. As mentioned, it is most always crowded - i.e., there may be a wait before seated. The wait has never been an unreasonable amount of time for us. The one negative I would mention is the wait staff. Over the years I seem to notice, I guess, what I would call an attitude. Not so much rudeness but eye rolling (at questions or requests) and impatience and unwillingness and a basic "Are you done yet?" demeanor. I think that is what I get from them. Maybe it comes from being so busy ALL the time. I can imagine the wait staff is constantly wanting to turn the tables. But sometimes customers just like to sit and enjoy their meal a bit. Who knows maybe the restaurant caters to a breakfast crowd and not those out for a tea party. Ha Ha

Worth the wait.. I came here after a long night of partying and thought the food was great. The obvious recommendation would be the pancakes bc they are delicious. This place is yummy<br/>Written by Curtis B. of Urbanfoodlife

Best brunch in charlotte. Worth the wait!

Great food, great people watching. The wait can be a bit long, so get there early. I find it can be a bit of a scene on a sunday morning. There's an interesting mix of unshowered people from the night before alongside church-goers. The food is always delivered quickly once you are seated. The omelets really steal the show - plus they are HUGE.
Marty
Make Sure You're Hungry!. If you go on Sunday-go before churches let out-otherwise you'll wait 15 - 30 min. Fabulous juices, hash, pancakes, waffles - try the apple pancake. Orange & grapefruit juice are fresh squeezed - have always been pleased with food and service. Will continue to be a satisfied customer.

Not worth it. The lines on Sunday morning made me think that I was missing something good. I have gone twice, both times the service / staff have been great and both times the food has been terrible. Definitely not worth it

Too Big. I like the food but i didn't really need pounds of it. Don't even think about Sunday morning, wait is unbearable.

Get one of these in South Charlotte. Charlotte has a severe lack of good bfst spots. That is why this place is so packed. Expect to wait for a table.<br/><br/>They have any of the "usual" bfst items but here's where OPH is outstanding: Real OJ - with so much pulp you have to fight through the pulp to get to the OJ (how great is that). Bacon that is a 1/4 inch thick - You almost need a knife to cut it. Potatoe Pancakes with sour cream and applesauce. Theme Pancakes that are so big you can't finish them.
Robert
Hype?. Not sure why prople flock here. If you like your mushroom omelette with mushroom soup or western omelette with spaghetti sauce knock your self out.<br/>If you order eggs and sausage that's what you get-eggs on one half of the plate and sausage on the other. It's not pretty no garnish, toast, grits.<br/>This restaurant is stuck in a place I do not want to be-Charlotte residents wake-up to a creative breakfast. Yes, you can do it!

Staff are nice. Prices are good. French crepes are awesome.

Great Omlettes!
Mrs.D.
Omelettes the size of car tires!. Omelettes, pancakes and crepes, oh my! Never guilty of greasiness, this place is packed the gills for Sunday brunch. A nice little bonus is the french press brought to you for coffee. My staple order is the bacon and cheese omelette- the eggs are whipped with the milkshake spinner to create air pockets. The result is a HUUUUGE fluffy omelette.

It looks like I have been recently on a discovery kick and this time it was brought on by a visit to The Original Pancake House to catch up on life with a friend of mine. After all these years in Charlotte I apparently missed the memo on the fact that this restaurant is a Charlotte staple for breakfast food.

I ordered the vegetarian omelet- check this baby out! It was enormous. I ate half of it, and took the rest home. It was fluffy, cheesy, stuffed with veggies, just the way I like my omelets. - See more at:

On the weekends, there is always going to be a wait to get a table at The Original Pancake House. It means they’re doing something right. I’ve mentioned in the past my genuine dislike for having to wait but my emotions are tempered at the Pancake House for one simple reason. There is no bullshit.
The Fake Foodie
We checked out the Original Pancake House in Southpark over the weekend and once again.. we we're blown away :) We went on Saturday morning around 11ish (yes that's still morning for us) and...

Word to the wise — 1 omelet at the Pancake House is enough for two to share.
