Review The Chop House - Charleston - Charleston

Very nice place ,was expecting to go somewhere else but they were having an issue so for my birthday we ended up going to The Chop House.. tried some new things that I've never had before was very impressed and the waiter James went out of his way to make my birthday special, our appetizer was the Moroccan shrimp which is very good a little bit of spiciness to it, the main course was crab stuff sole, and a rosemary herb chicken. And for dessert I tried their Maple pecan bread pudding with chocolate drizzle and it was awesome.

Top notch service and selection. I got a special that was the Parmesean Crusted Halibut topped with a lobster creme sauce woth asparagus and a house salad. It was cooked beautifully and I paired with a nice Pinot Noir. Most menu items are a la carte and large. Some dishes have sides along with it (as my halibut did). ** It was the best food I've had in a long time ** Great Old Fashions I hear, but they are not my taste. Valet service outside if you prefer for 10, pay when you pay the bill. Can you believe I lost my ticket in the 15 feet it took to walk in, and I hadn't even had wine yet. But it didn't matter. They had my last name. Go on, have fun. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. You won't regret it. And follow me you pirates.

The food was superb đź‘Ś Very impressive and the atmosphere was very relaxed. The waitress was very knowledgeable and explained that the steaks are cooked a little under what you usually order and that helped in ordering the perfectly cooked steak. The food was cooked to perfection. I can say that I was very impressed. I highly recommend and would return.

I forgot to take a photo of my salad & dessert as I just couldn’t wait to eat them. Props to the chef for a delicious dining experience and a huge thank you to our waitress for being so knowledgeable!

My wife and I had a reservation here for 530pm, with plans to see a comedy show across the street at 7pm. When we arrived we were seated, the waiter arrived and took our beverage order. 20 minutes later the waiter came back, our appetizer arrived at the table. We had the crab cakes, they were average, very little seasoning, but good size chunks of crab and seared nicely. The cosmopolitan tasted pretty good, but after drinking, my wife noticed liquid pooling at the brim, there were 2 lipstick stains on the glass (my wife was not wearing lipstick). The glass was not clean. My wife did not want me to make a big deal about it, so we didn't say anything and hoped for the best. The waiter arrived back at our table 30 minutes later with bread, we were beginning to get nervous since our food order had not even been taken yet and we had roughly 40 minutes left. We alerted the waiter that we had a show at 7, also asked for directions (which sent us to the wrong building after). He took our order. My wife asked about how the beef Wellington was cooked and he spoke down to her when she asked if it would take any additional time (since we were on a time restraint). Additionally throughout each interaction, he only addressed me. My wife felt invisible and unimportant, for good reason. The next time we saw him was roughly 650, our food had not arrived yet and we asked to have it packed to go. He came back with the bill, which again was handed directly to me. We paid before even seeing our food. He didn't apologize, didn't seem bothered by the situation at all. The first interaction he had with my wife was when he handed her the food to carry. Which felt even more disrespectful. It was a nightmare experience, which also spoiled the rest of our night as we arrived late to our show upset about the entire situation. We drove home and attempted to reheat our dinner, but the damage was done. We spent $200 and 90 minutes of our life for this awful experience, 2 crab cakes, a lump of parmesan and tapioca they called bread, and a bag of leftovers. The Mac and Cheese turned to mush, the broccoli was cooked well buy left with all the inedible stems and was unseasoned. The Wellington was overcooked and missing the mushroom and liver pate. The filet was cooked well, but again was very bland. Needless to say, I do not recommend.

Steak was over rated and over priced. Med Rare filet, dry. Broccoli was too much, not cooked well. The rolls were heavenly.

Exactly what we wanted and expected by a nice restaurant in the Charleston area. Our waiter was extremely nice, helpful, and a great person overall. Steak was phenomenal as was the cheesecake. Bourbon selection was not bad at all either.

Fantastic staff. We enjoyed the weekend $99 special. Everything 5 star. Can't say enough great things about the establishment. If you haven't visited this restaurant and want an upscale night out this is a wonderful option.

Best bet is happy hour and apps. Overpriced dinner, but always good. Back to the appetizers - lamb chops are excellent, calamari has a light batter and is mixed with spicy peppers, there's a large seafood platter 2 can split as dinner, or, just order the crab cake dinner and split - there's only enough filler to hold the huge hunks of crab together Upscale, romantic ambiance and superb staff. (They offer a BOGO for your birthday! If you decide to splurge, I recommend 2 order surf & turf, but box one! Trust me, there's plenty!)

The Chop House is arguably one of the nicest restaurants in Charleston - with competition from maybe Laury's . The restaurant had always been on my radar - and recently rose to the top with them being named to this list , but I needed an occasion to celebrate. This isn't your typical Tuesday evening dinner spot. My recent visit to Charleston for the awards ceremony seemed like the perfect time. I recruited two of my closest friends, Tony and Maggie, to dress up and pretend to be fancy for the night. The Chop House is located in the Charleston mall, which is a bit odd for a fancy steakhouse. It looked pretty similar to what you would expect from a steakhouse, but maybe with some corners cut. Our table was made of this cheap white tattered foam top, just covered up with a tablecloth. Regardless, the presentation was still very nice. Our menus were via ipad, which I'm not totally a fan of. It's easier to have everything laid out right in front of you instead of having to flip between screens and only being able to see that one screen at a time. BUT, I know it's trendy and probably impressive. Also, can anyone, um, explain their logo to me? I ... don't get it. The waitress brought our first taste. The bread basket had a few different pieces of bread. Nothing especially of note, but nothing terrible, either. For my main entree, I actually went with their special, which was a filet mignon, served with a whipped goat cheese, mashed potatoes, carrots and broccoli. My filet was cooked to a nice medium, and the potatoes were pretty flavorful with garlic and cream. But, the steak wasn't super flavorful to me. And with the goat cheese, it pretty much dominated the flavor. It was tender, yes, but I do wish I had more flavor from the meat itself instead of just the goat cheese. Granted, I wouldn't be as picky if I didn't just pay $50 for a steak. Alas. It's a nice place, and the food is good. But great? Jury is still out on that one. Grade: B

Meh. Not impressed. It is like a Shoney's when they were in decline.

Awesome Place. Everything about this place is great. Sure, it's slightly higher than other restaurants but the whole experience is great every time I go!

Great food. The sides are HUGE. You may pay $9-10 for a side of garlic mashed potatoes but it will be more than two people can eat. Thomas was wonderful and very knowledgeable about the whole menu. He answered every question we had and went above and beyond our needs. Ask for Thomas as your waiter and you can't go wrong.

I don't get it... Everyone is always talking about chophouse as if it's this great upscale restaurant...I don't see it! Iv been there 4 times an I'm not impressed at all.

Average meal, above average prices. I stopped at this restaurant based on the fact they are mentioned as one of the best restaurants in Charleston, WV. The service was to be expected for a restaurant of its quality, personable and helpful. The digital menus on tablets were a welcome twist to the standard paper menus, as you can opt to see pictures of the items, and see suggested wine pairings. The prices are high for Charleston, being among the most expensive I saw in town.

Once served, I found the beef, while thick and cooked to the right specification, was rather bland and tasteless, and a little tougher than expected. In hindsight, I should have done an add-on to the steak, but i didn't want to 'ruin' a good cut of beef. The side vegetable ordered was a simple steamed item with shaved Parmesan cheese on top. It was very simple with no frills.

While I didn't totally dislike my experience (the service and atmosphere was nice) and wouldn't rule out trying it again, I certainly would be reluctant to do so without a work-related expense account.

Five years ago, this place was top notch! Ate there recently and I couldn't believe it was the same place. Steak was tasteless, service was mediocre and the drunk at the next table was so loud, my husband and I couldn't even talk. I will NOT be back!

Favorite Place. When I can afford to eat here, this is one of my favorite places. The wine list is wonderful, the steak is delicious, and I love the family style sides. This place also has a great atmosphere.
Amy
What a disappointment. For the price we were expecting a great steak and what we got was nothing special. Would not recommend for the cost.

For the money, the food just wasn't up to standerds. Disappointed in favor, portions, waitstaff, and service. Will not be going back. Nice wine selection...very nice.

Overpriced and Exceptionally Underwhelming. Wow. To start, the price of my experience was not delivered upon the first bite of my bland meal. I would have expected that the damage to my husbands wallet would atleast have afforded us an experience rivaling our recent visit to Ruth's Chris. My experience at the Chop House can only be rivaled by my experiences at Laury's and the Bridge Road Bistro when comparing food, if you know what I mean about bland and
underwhelming. The service was equally unpolished in their demeanor and attitude. I'm better off cooking at home for my husband than eating here. P.S. - If you can call an establishment a 'Cougar Den', then this place is a 'Codger Den' - I had two different men attempt to pick me up on the way to the ladies room.

No customer service. A few business colleagues and myself called ahead and were told that there was not a wait and seating was available. When we walked in, the host never acknowledged our presense. We stood there approximately 5 minutes, finally approached him about getting a table, and he rudely said they had "nothing." We told him we'd just called and he said "I've had nothing all day." Reminded me of the Pretty Woman scene where they won't wait on her in the store.
We promptly left and I would never recommend this establishment to anyone. I am a professional in the tourism industry and so are my colleagues. I've never seen such a lack of service at an establishment like this in my career. So sad. I visit Charleston often and have many friends in this state and the industry. I'm telling everyone I know.

Beautiful, lovely, delicious. When my husband and I want to go to a fine restaurant where we can count on delicious food, a lovely environment, and great service, we head to The Chop House. We are so lucky to have such a restaurant in Charleston. It is cosmopolitan and could be in NYC, London, or Hong Kong.

Special Occasion. I do not eat here on a regular basis due to the price, this is for special occasions in my budget. The last time I ate at The Chop House, the food was outstanding! I had the most beautiful steak with crab meat ontop.....it was sooo good, even good reheated! The one thing that wasn't fantastic (which normally is uncanny) was our server. She knew what she was doing however, she called everyone at the table kids, which as a server myself.....you just don't do that. She even went so far (knowing myself that she was trying to make conversation and to be funny) to semi offend a woman we were with......she asked why she was the only single one at the table....which she was not. Now this is not normal service for The Chop House but it should be noted. Other than that a wonderful restaurant with a great wine and liquor selection to match with every meal.

Not Often, But.... I don't eat here often, I just don't have $ that often. But if I want a steak prepared as I order it, and I want prime beef, I trust Tommy McC in the kitchen and the impeccable service here.
My Restaurant Reviews
All in all though, I have to say that I’ve had some really good steaks at the Chop House restaurant and have never had a bad dining experience there.
