i visited in June and I'm still thinking about this place! delicious! homey vibes. it was really busy when I went. friendly staff. large portions. food came out piping hot. if you get catfish Charleston and you are not a creamy sauce person you can request less sauce. the dish is amazing! limited parking in back of restaurant. i definitely recommend.

Gillie's is our new favorite eatery on James Island. The fried green tomatoes are the best we've ever had, thick and juicy with a crispy crunchy crust. My wife had the shrimp and grits and I loved my seafood perloo rice dish with shrimp, crawfish, oysters, sausage and okra. Super friendly service and a grandma photo wall makes this a warm, welcoming local treasure.

This was an excellent black owned restaurant that head been around 7 years and had much hospitality, warm welcoming to everyone and plenty of business with great great food. Absolutely the best of southerns best with a twist of seafood. Oh my goodness. Must stop by and visit anytime your in the area. I was loving the Grandma photo wall. I plan to revisit just to get the great food. Live entertainment was great on the outside. Thanks to all the great cooks and employees. When I say good filling portions and great prices well worth the wait.

Went at about 6pm on a weeknight and there was no wait. We actually sat outside on the patio and the weather was actually quite nice. Our server was amazing!! We had the calamari and hush puppies for appetizers. They were yummy. My husband had the Spicy Jambalaya. He said it could be more spicy but was delicious. I had the Pasta Mardi Gras which was so good! Would definitely be back.

The most delicious food ever! Huge portions and amazing prices! My husband and I weren’t on the wait list, but a very sweet lady who worked there sat us at the bar so she wouldn’t have to turn us away. I cannot say enough good things about this local restaurant. It’s a gem!

This place is amazing! The food was incredible and the service and staff is very friendly and professional. The dining area isn't fancy but it doesn't need to be. You just need a comfortable place to sit down and enjoy some scrumptious seafood.

Walked in around 3pm on a weekday.. no wait. Went straight to a table. Our waitress was the absolute best waitress. She was sweet, kept our drinks full.. was on top of our every want/need. The owner’s mother even came and talked to us. Now the food.. absolutely delicious. Cooked perfectly.. the coleslaw was just what I was looking for! Their banana pudding tastes just like my Mammaw’s (Rest her soul).. I will definitely be back.. they made sure our first experience there would definitely not be our last. Can’t wait to go back for more!

I went here Memorial Day Weekend and the service and the food was phenomenal. The staff quickly accommodated our large party of about 20 people. The sweet tea was just the right amount of sweet. I ordered the jambalaya and loved it. It was my first time eating alligator. I highly recommend the spicy jambalaya. The soul rolls were also delish. Everyone in my group enjoyed their food. Most of all, the prices were more than reasonable for the quality of food received.

Be prepared to wait. However, the wait is worth the visit. I suggest the owner invest in a buzzer system to alert customers when a table is available. Customer service could improve, however. The hostess wasn't personable, but the waitress made up for the less than welcoming greeting. Overall, the food was phenomenal, and perhaps the best soul food in the city.
