Review Michael's On The Alley - Charleston

Alex
Great classic Chicago style steakhouse, leather booths, brick walls and classic crooners playing in the background. Had the restaurant week 3 course meal and it was fantastic. Did the Prime ribeye upgrade and it was worth every cent, perfect char on the outside, little to no seasoning, the wet aged Prime beef is the star here. The bread is fresh with house made butter, the She Crab soup was rich and full of crabmeat. And the dessert, a dark chocolate sour cherry torte was a perfect finish. My only knock was I ordered a medium rare steak and it came out way too rare, but this was rectified quickly. It was so good I can excuse it. Service was friendly and quick and cocktails enjoyable. Overall a great steakhouse that can complete with the big 2 around the corner.

Came here for a post engagement celebratory dinner with some friends and it did not disappoint. My steak was made to perfection and the sides were great. I recommend the Mac and cheese and/or the baked potato. Service was great and the wine that we had was just what the doctor ordered. If you’re looking for a good more pricey night out you can’t go wrong

Absolutely lovely restaurant. The atmosphere is wonderful. We went during restaurant week. I did not give this restaurant a 5 star review as the food was all very salty. The only item that was seasoned perfectly and not to salty was the filet (which was amazing). The accompaniments to the steak and our She Crab Soup appetizer were all very salty. The dessert was delicious and a perfect ending to our evening meal. I would recommend this establishment but be prepared for a high sodium intake. We will definitely give Michael's another try at a later date. Our waitress was courteous and attentive.

What an amazing experience we had at Michael's on the Alley! We dined on Christmas Eve, and it was also our Wedding Anniversary! I can't say enough about Christina Couture! She was so helpful and accommodating our last minute reservations. When we met in person, I felt like I had known her forever. Our server Mark was exceptional! His service and attentiveness was beyond the ordinary. I had the prime rib and my guest had the filet and they were so delicious and tender. Our experience was beyond my expectations and I will highly recommend this amazing dining experience!!

Amazing food. The truffle fries were delicious. I will say I was a little disappointed with the preparation of the Wagyu however I will say I have only had it prepared in a Japanese style. It just seemed a little over cooked for my taste. The atmosphere was great, the wine selection is top notch and the main course was delicious. I would certainly recommend Michael's to anyone who wants a great steak dinner but doesn't want to deal with the crowds found Halls or Oak.

Great service and great atmosphere. It was my parents anniversary & Christmas Eve. They went above and beyond to make sure we got a table and had excellent service. Our steaks were all cooked to perfection. Thank you for your hospitality Christine and Mark. ❤️

The service, the decor, the ambience, the food, the staff...everything was top notch and perfect. From the moment my husband and I walked in, we were given exactly the right amount of attention. The staff was personable, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. We shared a Cesar salad and a tomato crab bisque. The salad was vibrant and fresh, and the soup was loaded with crab. We both had the dry-aged bone-in cut steak with sides of asparagus and wild mushrooms, and it was all perfection. Afterwards, we couldn't resist dessert. Between the flourless chocolate torte and the carrot cake, the torte was my favorite. The chocolate was smooth and luscious. Even the coffee was spot on. Thank you all for a perfect night. And a special shout out goes to Hillary and Mark for exceptional table service and for helping make our evening a happy one.

This was one of the best meals I've ever had! First time ever being offered white truffle shavings on my aged and perfectly cooked rib eye, unbelievable! Best creamed corn I ever had and Kenneth was a great waiter. Will definitely be back.

Great steakhouse in Charleston. Beautiful interior and great service. Larger parties may be seated in some awkward table design though. Not a solid 5 as I believe Burwell’s food (a similar steakhouse in price, location, and atmosphere) had a more refined flavor. At this price level, why not go with perfection?

This place was great! We had a steak and it was cooked to perfection. The sides we had were equally as amazing - Asparagus, Lobster mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and brussel sprouts. The creamed spinach was ok, just needed some seasoning - salt perhaps? Anyway...Great service and a Christmas Eve to remember! :)

The place is beautiful but dark. Service was average to good but the server and hostess both shuffling their feet is very annoying. We started with a wedge salad for him and Beet salad for me. His was good mine was less than the greens were extremely bitter and beet's average yes server offered to exchange it I wish I had. We shared a tomato Bisque with crab it would have been great if it had been Hot it was just warm the husband enjoyed it anyway. They have very tasty bread and butter. And surprising to find in the South no Sweet tea. They had a special on a 20 oz steak it being father's day the husband ordered that I had the Prime Rib. Neither meat came out in anyway hot they had butter on top of my prime rib it never melted and both cuts had a fairly lg amount of fat we did not waste it the dogs enjoyed. We both had a side husband a potato fondant again not hot burnt on the outside I have made them before they are usually so good this was not. I had creamed spinach in a small oven type dish again not hot more room temp. We had been looking forward to going here for a long time and I finally made these reservations what a total fail and on Fathers day. When we walked in there were 2 table's a couple ahead of us then us came to 4 and about 10 minutes later one more couple. 5 tables in the hour and a half and the food was fair at best yes we were offered to re heat our meat so then it might be hot but over cooked. And for the price of $69 for the husbands steak and $49 for my prime rib we expected great cuts :(. I would say save your money and go somewhere else. I gave 2 stars since the supporting servers were amazing the prosecco was wonderful and the place is very pretty.

Eleven of us went for my birthday. Were really looking forward to dining here based on the great reviews! Didn't care for the cheese plate, possibly just not my style. However, I get prime rib regularly and this one was really awful. So tough you could hear the knife ripping through it and I was worried that I would choke swallowing it, even after chewing it forever. Not seasoned at all and swimming in a pool of au jus made with what seemed like canned beef base. Really boring. I sent it back and the manager DID offer a replacement. I declined since nobody at our table was having better luck with their meals. We all decided the entrees were completely poor across the board. The side dish of creamed corn was barely creamy at the bottom of the dish, dry on top, under cooked and not good. The mashed potatoes were stiff and stale tasting, not creamy or fluffy (took a couple of spoonfuls only). Wife had a chicken dish that came with beef ravioli. It was a strange combo that didn't work in my opinion. On top of that the chicken was dry and shedding instead of being moist and firm. Sorry for the poor review but this place really needs to get it together to compete in a city full of great restaurants. I do hope the management reads this review and uses it to do better in the future. First review I have ever written. I hope we just had an off night, but since nobody at our table could find a favorable dish other than the Caesar salad and the soup, we wont go back. On a positive note, the service was attentive and excellent.

Wonderful Sunday Brunch menu with options for all ages within the family (adults to 10 year olds). Great atmosphere was only outdone by our wonderful waitstaff, Camille. Highly recommend.

Excellent meal, impeccable service, wonderful atmosphere. From the Caprese salad and oysters Rockefeller appetizers, to entrees of baked scallops, and an amazing Prime Rib; the only thing better than the food was the service masterfully provided by Jacob. He welcomed us warmly and made a very special Birthday dinner into an amazing night. It's pricey but well worth it!

Jacob was an amazing server (Weston too). One of the best steaks I've ever had. Highly recommend
