Review Rappahannock Oyster Bar - Charleston

A last minute reservation in Charleston and turned out to be our favorite one yet! Amazing food, atmosphere and staff. Drinks are strong and seafood is good - what more can you ask for?! Will definitely come back!

Very good food! The shipping grits that comes with squid ink 🐙 and black garlic was very tasty. I recommend it. The beef tartar and the oyster tasted great too.

One of our favorite oyster bars. Always reliable with good parking. Get a res for a big group or walk in and sit at the bar for a casual night

Rappahannock Oyster Bar is a nice seafood restaurant with a good selection of oysters. Even though the restaurant was crowded, we were able to secure a reservation at the bar and watch them shucks the oysters while you eat. The oyster shuckers were very knowledgeable and were able to recommend the best oysters based on your flavor profile, which was very helpful. We ordered two dozen oysters and a whole grilled fish, both were amazing. The service was great too, with friendly and attentive staff making sure that everything was just right.

You’re in luck if either Taryn and Jay are serving you… amazing service! They’re so knowledgeable, friendly and have great recommendations. I had such an amazing time with them! The oysters here are phenomenal, tried the two house and one guest and my favorite were the olde salt because I like more of a bit salty brine. Tried the aviation cocktail for the first time ( a must try if you like gin( and the bloody oyster shooter with the old Salome was my favorite shot of the shooters I tried. The shrimp po boy was really yummy and I was surprised!! A great addition to oysters and clams (lots of onions and rosemary)

Definitely worth a stop when in Charleston. Food was excellent and the atmosphere was relaxing. Service was very slow when we were there but I think they were short staffed that day. I can't wait to go back and definitely will change my Service rating if it speeds up.

Came here on a Friday afternoon for lunch with three friends. We had lots of the meals on the menu: oysters, whole fish, salads, grits, etc. All food was delicious. Only complaint is that vegetarian options were few. This day in age not everything has to be cooked with bacon, and vegetarian sides have to exist on the menu. Otherwise, vegetarian guests can only eat salad. And one doesn’t come to Charleston to eat salad. Corn, asparagus, potatoes, broccoli, etc. so many options. Put at least one green thing on the side menu that is not salad. Service was good. We also had wine, margaritas and mimosas. All were great. Although the drinks menu is also fairly limited. I would come back here for sure. Not the greatest variety, but what they have was very good!

I come to this restaurant mostly on weekdays when there’s not much of a crowd. I always start with Olde Salt oysters and they are always great. I forget the blonde bartenders name but I always sit at the bar because he’s cool, witty, and his drinks are on point.

The food was to die for. We are foodies and travel a lot , eating and trying different cuisines, we were very impressed with the fresh food also are waiter was amazing and helpful . The shrimp and grits were not your ordinary which was a good thing they were an A+, are daughter had the whole fried snapper and she loved it, we also slurped down on some oysters some of the best I ever had! Must try it's also a local favorite 😍

Every dish at Rappahannock is phenomenal and they all have a unique twist. I love a spicy bloody mary and they delivered! This restaurant also has a perfect atmosphere, convenient parking, and a super friendly staff.

really an excellent place, from the decor to the incredible food. it was the most civil oyster bar I've ever experienced and every bite was top notch- even the tuna melt was fresh caught yellow fin, then confited before making tuna salad to make the tuna melt. the oysters were some of the best I've had- ever. do not miss this place, or the Mercantile and Mash gourmet shop in the same complex.

Eric the bartender was awesome. Friendly, prompt, and always there just before I needed him. Their house made hot sauce is really good, but the oysters were so fresh, cold, briny and delicious that I didn't want to dilute the flavor with hot sauce. So, I bought a bottle to take home! The shrimp and grits were unique and memorable... The kind of stuff cravings are made of. This place came recommended to me and I would recommend anyone add it to their list of must-not-miss Charleston restaurants.

Marty was a fabulous server! Completely knowledgeable about all the menu items and wine!! Everything about our experience was top notch! I fell in love with the baked clams, beef tartare, crab cake and lamb and clam dish. Desserts were phenomenal as well! I really appreciate that they have parking too, which is a rare find downtown!

Awesome date night venue. The food was incredible and the server was super knowledgeable about everything on the menu. Oysters, steak tartar, muscles, scallops, you can’t go wrong. Definitely our new favorite place!

Food is fantastic. The only negative is the oyster pricing which is double the price of the current market. I ordered two dozen oysters and got a $60 bill. The same at Pearlz would have been $30-$32. However, service was great and the rest of the food was to die for.

Decided to try Rappahannock for Valentines Day - our server was awesome (female) can’t recall her name at the moment but she was on point with everything-she explained everything in detail and then some - food was excellent- baked clams were wonderful-fish a la plancha was awesome and the scallops were as well-dessert was bread pudding which was great

Excellent new spot for locals! The staff was incredible and provided a great history lesson! This is without a doubt the best seafood restaurant in Charleston for those who love a creative touch!

Outstanding in every respect. Tuesday was our server and she was AWESOME. The food was great. I had the oyster poboy and my wife had the shrimp poboy. We also shared the Mexican cream corn and the grits. Both sides were excellent. My wife also discovered her favorite cocktail, Blackboard's cure. I can't recommend this place enough. We are looking forward to the next time we are in town again.

Amazing! Yum yum and yum! They have plenty of options, even if you don't like oysters. The kids' menu is also delicious AND they make fabulous mocktails. You can dress up or dress down and still have a wonderful experience. It's worth a visit if you're unsure. If we weren't living in TX - this would be on our regular rounds!

Great and relaxing experience... The atmosphere was comfortable with an attentive, but not overbearing wait staff... We had the opportunity to sample a variety of menu items... We had oysters from Virginia (my home state); nicely battered and tender shrimp and fish from the hildren's menu; ceviche and citrus cured stonehead trout; There were some good looking dishes coming from the kitchen, especially the whole baked fish.... Will definitely come back....

Melissa at the bar started the night right with a recommendation! Raw Oysters, Grilled Oysters, Clams, Short rib and S’mores desert were all on point! Kyle the general manager engaged with us and made the experience so comfortable! We will be back soon and bring friends!

My family and I came in for lunch one day and it was really good. I got the shrimp and grits with the black garlic and the ceviche and oysters were the best I’ve had in a while. Our server Brittany was really attentive and hospitable. She was very knowledgeable about the food and wine and it made our experience enjoyable. I look forward to coming back.

Overall great dining experience. We do not eat out often so we are very picky when it comes to dining. Had all 3 varieties of the Virginia raw oysters, The salties were awesome! We had the following dishes and all were prepares and tasted great: Lamb and clams, Charred octopus, steak and potato. Also had beef tartare and the Snapper ceviche, both were excellent. Although portions were a little smaller than we like and cocktails were also a little small for the price, overall it was an enjoyable evening with great service.

Incredible food, location, and service! Took my dad for dinner, who is a picky diner- he loved every single thing we got, especially the pan oysters! Marty, our server, was wonderful and Chef Kelly even made my dad’s day by visiting the table and chatting with us. Thanks for a great evening!

I really enjoyed everything. We had great raw oysters, caviar was good and affordable, smoked fish spread was good and I usually don't like it...Five star food and experience!

We came in for our honeymoon and were warmly greeted with a champagne toast from the incredible staff. Food was amazing to say the least! Service equally as wonderful! Shrimp n grits was to die for! Thank you for making our honeymoon stop in Charleston so wonderful!
