Review Chez Nous Restaurant - Charleston

Ajimon Thomas
This place is situated in a alley surrounded by some houses. I think that adds to the cozy feel. The menu changes daily. We had the mushrooms with sherry, risotto and almond ice-cream. The mushroom was really tasty, the risotto was a bit too lemony for us, and the ice-cream was yum. The small sized menu was definitely a problem in my opinion. Otherwise, the service was great and the food is good. Will definitely come back for sure.

Everything we had tonight at this restaurant was absolutely delicious. The dishes tasted incredibly fresh, and I particularly appreciate when food allows me to savor its natural flavors without being bland. The balance of flavors here is controlled very well. Even the dessert was delightful – delicately sweet, avoiding the overwhelming sugar rush that leaves you thirsty. I truly enjoyed the fish dish, especially how they served it with bones and the head on. I wish I could have used chopsticks, as they would have made it much easier to clean the finish. 😅

A cozy little spot with a French atmosphere. The menu changes daily, so be sure to check on Instagram the day of your visit. They essentially serve two options for starters, mains, and dessert. We ordered it all!!! It's a lot of food, but we found it irresistible. The greeter and wait staff were friendly and knowledgable. The food was spectacular.

Love the level of attention to detail. Our menus were beautifully written and the space was really unique. Didn't really love how close we were to our neighbors but they were lovely. We ordered a couple glasses of wine, the ricotta cheese cake, an almond tart and a couple of double espressos. The almond tart was incredible - a little salty, a little sweet. I'm not a huge fan of ricotta so didn't love the texture of the ricotta cheesecake but the flavor was nice.

The high end version of a home cooked meal. Love how this place is nestled back behind some houses. Feels like you're eating at a friend's house. The menu changes daily. So, anything I mention today won't be what you eat, but I can guarantee it'll taste great. There are always two starters, two entrees, and two desserts. There are no cocktails, only beer and wine. But the wine list is quite extensive. Our server was very knowledge and checked in regularly. If you're coming with more than one person I highly recommend just getting one of each option and sharing. Portions are large enough to allow you to do so. My only critique was that it took quite some time from when we placed our order to the first plates arriving.

By far the best meal I've ever had hands down. A different meal every day that is curated by the chef and the cutest handwritten menus I've ever seen. Truly a one of a kind experience. *Chefs kiss*

The food was excellent. Menu items were a little hard to read in cursive but our server Nicki did a beautiful job running through each of the items for us. We were seated at the bar. Some might not like that but we preferred it to a 2 person table as it gave us more shoulder room. The portion sizes were enough to fill you up but you didn't leave the restaurant feeling bloated. Meals were cooked to perfection and flavorful.

Incredible meal, wine, & service. We sat at the bar, shared the daily cheese, a salad, both entrees, and the tiramisu. We were pleasantly full at the end. Grateful to Nicky for recommending the cheese & her wine knowledge!! Will make it an effort to return on my next trip to Charleston

Tasting menu was tasty and varied (only miss was the fish skin wasn't crispy). Duck confit, goat cheese desert, and lemon tart were fantastic. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Quaint little place that wasn't loud.

Well and truly one of our most amazing experiences in Charleston. From the picturesque, storybook feeling of the restaurant to the friendly waitstaff, not to mention, of course, the incredible food — this is an absolute can’t-miss destination in the Holy City. The sheer pride and joy of cooking comes through exquisitely in the flavors of the menu items, which, if you’re reading reviews, you know it changes every day. Put this on your must-go list; you won’t regret it!

The staff was attentive, incredibly knowledgeable and helpful on the menu selections and wine pairings. The hostess is a sweet French native with a very strong French accent. She will wish you Bon appetite as you take your seat and you will feel transported across the sea to another land in France. The menu is small which makes for easy selections. Each course was absolutely amazing and if they ever have the salsa verde served on a dish I highly recommend getting that. I had the trigger fish with the salsa verde and I'm pretty positive it was the best fish I have ever had. If you are wanting an incredible meal and wonderful atmosphere in a small and beautiful remodeled home I suggest Chez nous above all else.

Tiny, interesting find at the end of an alley in Uptown. Food was good and fresh, but desserts were pricey for the type of ordinary desserts that we chose (pannecotta and lemon mousse). Wine is pricey for what it is too (Muscadet--considered ordinary wine in France). Watch out for the "digestif" if you are looking for something to sip at the end--we ordered one small glass of an Italian type of sweet wine with bitters (they don't have a liquor license) to share without verifying the price, and were shocked to see a whopping $19 on the bill for that one small glass of wine. We are happy to pay the price for excellent and outstanding food, drink and service, but this was a mystery and unpleasant way to finish. Service was very French (cool, quiet, sophisticated) from our young waiter. Disappointed by the owner's coolness which bordered on nonchalance and disinterest. Perhaps our expectations were too high...

You can always count on Chez Nous for an outstanding meal, it's truly one of the best in Charleston. It's not for "meat and potatoes" eaters and it's not inexpensive. Great atmosphere, great service, great wine list, amazing food.

The best restaurant in Charleston by far, new and vibrant and a very expirenced staff while keeping it cozy and not pretensius. Skip the old gaurd restaurants (which are great), and head a little north out of the hustle of downtown. Great date restaurant and order every dish on the menu, you will not be disappointed.

We've never had a bad experience at Chez Nous. It is my favorite place to eat in Charleston, and I think husband agrees. And while we haven't tried everywhere, we've tried a lot. Yes, the food really looks like what you see in the pictures and the flavor is, well, even better than what you'd expect from the pictures. There is always something new and wonderful to try, which is unlike other places. The service is always great and personal. We usually go for lunch so there has never been a problem with substitutions. We love you!!!

We had a memorable meal here last weekend. The food was excellent, as was the service. The tables are a little close together for my preference, but that's a minor point when presented with such an outstanding meal. I hope to go back next time I'm in Charleston.

Enjoying French cuisine in Charleston, Serrano ham croquettes and local Trigger fish something that never tried before. Delicious. Guess what! They have a really special dessert "crema catalana". Great food, the place is beautiful and the service excellent.

Swoon worthy! The atmosphere is upscale rustic chic, the service well informed and friendly and the food is always amazing and interesting. The wine list is quite nice as well. This is a favorite for sure!

We are French and pretty difficult when it comes to our national treasure Their French cuisine is 100% real and similar to the one my mother used to cook in the countryside of France. What a performance! Congrats on the rabbit and the sweetbread, cooked and marinated to perfection. We loved every single taste and smell that arrived at our table.
