I never thought you could mess up miso soup until I ate here... a group of friends and myself were looking forward to eating here, thinking we had found a nice yakitori place close to the apartment. Boy were we wrong... Upon walking in it seemed a bit understaffed for the day we were there. We got there around 7PM, it was surprisingly not packed for a dinner-rush time on a Sunday. Even with the non-packed restaurant though the staff was extremely lacking on service. It took the staff about 7 minutes to finally come to our table to ask us for our drink order. Which then took about 3 minutes to finally receive. We ordered an assortment of various yakitori, some edamame, and a teriyaki beef plate. The miso soup that came with the beef plate was extremely bland, it had absolutely no flavor at all. I couldn't even taste the miso, that's how bad it was. I don't even know how this is possible to screw up. The yakitori was a mixture of over-cooked and under-cooked. The mushrooms were under cooked and still soggy / filled with water. The spicy pork was the worst thing i've ever tasted. The sauce on it didn't even feel cooked, it tasted as if it was thrown on after the pork had been cooked. The flavor was beyond description and left a bad taste in my mouth for a majority of the night. The beef teriyaki was extremely hard to chew and not tender at all; my jaw was sore by the time I had finished eating. We had an incident where two different waiters take our drink re-fill orders, which was a very confusion situation. This place also has about 4~6 tvs playing sports. Which hads to the annoyingly loud music. When a team scored in whatever sport was being shown, other people in the restaurant would get extremely loud, yelling and chanting. Very obnoxious. Definitely not a place I would recommend for a nice dinner with friends or a fan of Japanese food.

Servers are pleasant, but slow...overworked? Once you order they seem to forget about you. The food is below average: chicken teriyaki was pretty tasteless. Not enough dressing in the salad. Chicken yakitory tasted the same as the teriyaki, but with more burn marks. Prices seem disconnected from the experience that you get out of it.

Literally the worst experience . I came in at 3pm yesterday and the restaurant was pretty empty ,so you figure service would be fast and friendly. I was completely wrong, whoever runs the staff during the day needs to re evaluate their employees. An older Asian lady came to take our drink orders , and we explained we needed more time to order. She gave us 20 mins , seems like she went to the other table and decided to serve herself food and forgot about us. When she decided to come back she took our orders quickly and went back to eating. About 15 mins later she brings out our food .. we ordered sushi , apparently sushi without wasabi and soy sauce is how we were supposed to eat, because when I asked for it she rolled her eyes as it was an inconvenience for her since she was trying to go back to eating with now her other co workers.

Mmmmmmmmmmm....... Nothing says "Yummy" than assorted chicken, beef & pork parts. Happy Hour at Ajito Japanese Grill & Yakitori 3pm - 6pm & 9pm - close Cerritos doesn't have many options for late-night munching. My "Fatty Arbuckle" self likes to indulge in culinary escapades at all times of the day and/or night. I've been meaning to check out Ajito ever since it opened a few years ago. Today was as good a time as any. Of course, I had to go for the yakitori. Filipinos have our own yakitori, too. Ours is called "skewer a fatty, cholesterol-laden piece of flesh on a stick, grill it & eat it". Japanese skewers look prettier, though. I decided upon the more adventurous choices- Tri-Tip & Tongue - Very good! The yakitori is cooked well done, whereas I prefer medium rare. The tongue was my favorite - so tender & juicy. Original Chicken, Gizzard & Heart - The OG chicken was marinated chicken breast w/ green onions. Succulent & good. The other two were for the more hardcore foodie. The hearts had an irony/mineraly taste to them, like liver, and definitely texture which required a thorough chewing. The gizzards, while having great flavor, were a texture nightmare. Very tough! Sorta like chewing leather if leather had a crunch to it. Of the two, I liked the gizzards over the hearts, due to said flavor. I was given a bowl of pickled ginger, daikon & green onions, which I was told to pour soy sauce over & mix for dipping. I also received a bowl of sriracha to add the amount of heat I preferred. The dipping sauce complemented the yakitori well during my meal. Spacious seating, with booths, tables & counter seats. 3 flat-screen TV's for the enjoyment of patrons, which today had the various ESPN channels on. The music was on blast, w/ David Guetta, Drake & other pop/dance songs on the playlist. I resisted to urge to "drop that thun thun thun". I kept my composure this time, but I can't guarantee next time ;P. I must mention the bathroom. They used DC comic book pages for the wallpaper! Awesome! That deserves a star in & of itself! Just a suggestion - Use Marvel comic book pages when these wear out, because Spider-Man, Hulk & Thor are my homies. Bazinga! Overall, I recommend Happy Hour at Ajito Japanese Grill & Yakitori. It's the perfect time to sample the yakitori & their specialty sushi rolls are 50%. I must come back and try the "Ring of Fire" roll. Cheers! NOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM

Chicken skin stick was delicious. Ramen was bad. The staff is friendly. The space was average. Gaku restaurant is better if you are into Japanese grill.

Food is not bad, and it's definitely worth the money when it's happy hour. The pitchers of beer are really cheap during happy hour as well.
