Review Bogue House Restaurant - Cedar Point

We have been by here many times and decided to try it tonight. Our small shrimp plate with two sides was ample food for us. It was hot and quick. The food was fresh, and the shrimp was cooked just right, not greasy. The portion was ample to the price. Nice clean restaurant. Liked that there was more than one diet drink option. It's where the locals eat and we like to support good local businesses, not chains.

5-6-23 We drove in from Charleston, SC to stay at a near by campground and decided after a long trip to find some local seafood. This place did not disappoint. Wife ordered Shrimp plate with fries and fried okra, while I ordered Shrimp and Scallops combo with fries and slaw. Both plates were over flowing with golden fried goodness. The seafood was all lightly breaded, tasted fresh and perfectly cooked. You can not go wrong stopping here whenever you are in the area.

Unbelievably good food, laid back atmosphere, great service!

It's really as good as it looks. The prices are fair and the servings are hefty. I wish this was closer to me.

I’ve lived here my whole life in Eastern NC. Always saw the restaurant and smelled the restaurants food every time in passing by for travel. Well this time we made plans to stop and see what this nice, quiet spot was about. I loved it! Affordable, very clean, and inviting. The girl working the cash register was very nice. 5 stars all around. My man and I got the shrimp burger combo with fries. So delicious. Will be back for sure!

What an amazing place and thank goodness for my fellow Google reviewers for pointing me to this gem. Amazing comfort food and seafood at great prices. Love the old school feel. Went here and it was extremely packed and lots of locals and I can see why. The catfish was amazingly flaky and the shrimp were amazing. I couldn't tell what was in the green beans, but it was so good. Loved the perfectly done hush puppies. But let me tell you about the service. We were featured friendly as was every customer, even as busy as they were they still were able to fill ice, fill ice tea (which was going super fast) and were able to bus tables. I only saw 2 people working. I was totally amazed that even without take service we were checked on. I totally would say that you need some outdoor seating to take advantage of the view and the weather and allow more customers to sit, but it was so good and will be my go to for comfort food for now on.

This place has the best fish I've tasted since being back in NC. The flounder and catfish were cleaned and fried beautifully. It basically melted in your mouth while eating it. Service is counter order. The place could use better seating.

I was pleasantly surprised with the food here. It's a busy tourist area and many times we've gotten just "food". I got the fried chicken sandwich and it was the best one I've ever had! The hush puppies were fantastic, the lady was really nice and explained that our food was taking longer because the chicken is all freshly done and it takes a bit longer than the other stuff. Fine by me! The slaw was really good too!

Popped in at my son's request. Somehow we have lived here 8 years and I never noticed this little restaurant. The food was very tasty. My 9 year old son ordered the fried shrimp and he loved it. He just kept saying how good it was and that we had to come back. He then insisted we save some to take home so his dad could try the shrimp and hush puppies. He also loved the seasoned fries. I tried the fries shrimp. They were small but fresh and tasty! I also ate his coleslaw which was yummy as well. Everything tasted fresh and made in house including the tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich on wheat toasted. Delicious as well. This is a summer addition to the menu and the server said it was their first batch of the season. Great little spot for a little fresh local fare. Very relaxed, small town atmosphere.

This was an excellent place to grab a quick bite! The food was awesome and super fresh. I decided to try their chicken nuggets with mac and cheese and hush puppies! My friend decided on the barbecue with shrimp and collards! The collards were some of the best I'd ever tasted! The service and prices were excellent.

Absolutely delicious. I've never experienced yellow coleslaw, but it was absolutely the best coleslaw I've had in a long time. Big portions and everything I've had there has been absolutely perfect.

This place is awesome you can’t go wrong. Everything is hot and delicious. They are super nice and portions are very generous. Ordered a pound of fried shrimp and we got two meals out of it for four people.

Great fresh seafood. I had the flounder/shrimp combination and Kim had the popcorn shrimp. The hush puppies were awesome. Will definitely be back.

Food it absolutely great, literally everything is great. But because of this they hardly ever have seating for a family of 7, and the last thing I want to do after or before the beach is sit outside in 100 degree heat and eat my food. Everytime I come here I get the BBQ sandwich and I am never disappointed, and I always try something new with it. If you are visiting or live in the area this is a must try place!

Ordered Shrimp plate. Lots of delicious shrimp. Nice crisp and seasoned perfectly. The sides could be better. Fries were warm and green beans were not good at all. But the shrimp!!!!

March 2021 - A great little restaurant! All I wanted for dinner was some good fried shrimp, slaw, and french fries, and that's what I got. The corn bread and slaw were exceptionally good. I plan to return on a Wednesday when they serve chicken pastry. March 2022 - Update. I recently visited again. The food was (as usual) FANTASTIC, but it seems like the prices have gone up a lot. However, it is still much better than Sanitary Fish Market.

Great fried chicken, BBQ, shrimp and local fish. Fast service, great for large groups and families. Highly recommend!

Took all 3 generations, ate on site. Really good home cooking with seafood cooked as each of us liked it. Had lots leftover to take home for the next day. WONDERFUL BREADING! Homemade desserts just like Mom used to make. No atmosphere or views of the water, but plenty of locals and fisherman coming in off of their boats.

Unlike the last comment I have been eating here for 7 years and this place is always our go to spot! I love their nc bbq and seafood!! Their Brunswick stew, string beans, fried okra and well pretty much all their vegetables are to die for. During the week you can definitely tell the locals eat there, because they are booming. I recommend this place to tourist!! On Saturday they have this flounder and shrimp special and me and my husband split that meal and its big enough for two!! Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that flounder, sooo good!! " THE LOCALS EAT HERE" keep up the amazing work bogue house , you never fail us!!

Bogues House of Junk. You would think finding fresh, local seafood along the NC coast would be a simple affair. Well, it wasnt, and Bogue House shall serve as the poster child for all those that trying to rake in the tourist dollars in these parts without offering something reasonable in return.
I ordered the grilled Flounder plate for $16. At that price point I think they could do better than serving it on a styrofoam plate (great for the environment by the way). Still, if the fish was good, who cares? Unfortunately my fish had the texture of mashed potatoes. I love mashed potatoes, but not so much when I am expecting some flaky chunks of flounder. Im guessing that it was frozen or old, or both. Either way, it was inedible. Predictably, the fries were of the lame, cheap, frozen variety and the BBQ beans no doubt came straight from a can. The hush puppies were more of the same.
Lady Cackalack ordered the shrimp plate. What kind of place would try to pass off frozen bay/popcorn shrimp (not even deveined mind you), as worthy of being a $12 plate? The people at Bogues, thats who.
Our meal for 4 at this fast food type setup was $66. We felt raped and disgusted. Im glad the gal working the counter didnt ask how we enjoyed our meal. Im not quite sure what I would have said to her.
Grade: F (in case I didnt make it clear; this place sucks)

Good Eastern Carolina food. Quality and portions are usually good, but a bit more expensive than I would expect.

STAY AWAY!!!. FROZEN fish becomes mush when fried. Over priced - food not very good - atmosphere disgusting (greasy, dirty floors and tables - ICK!
