I went there on Sunday for a nice brunch. As we walked in at exactly 11am the place was already packed except for a table for two by the window. We immeadiately joined the line for food, I didn't like that all the people stood eye level to the desserts as you wait in line, a part from that the staff was very nice and helpful. The chicken was amazing, waffles were fresh and fluffy. It's just sad that they are closing their doors on 2.28.19 so get there before then..
I took my Mother in law here for her Birthday and it was a hit!! I was able to come early and decorate before she got there with no problem. Also, my mother is a religious woman so it was very comforting to hear the Christian music playing when we walked in. She also was born and raised in the South so it was important to me to bring her somewhere authentic!!! She was impressed with everything down to the lemonade she drank, Saying "This is way they make it down South". Also last but not least the waitress Brittany was kind and patient with us as well as the owner stopping by and saying helloduri by dinner. Southern quality with Southern hospitality, what more could you ask for?! Thanks for having us!! The O'neals 😍
I was dying for some real fried chicken. Not fast food, frozen fried chicken that is greasy and tasteless. I went to LL Dent. Wedged between Five Guys and Red Lobster (which no real Long Islander would ever eat at), it's a cozy clean restaurant.
The wait staff (really, one very polite young gentleman) was very accommodating. The owner comes out regularly and checks to make sure everything is good and everyone is happy with their food. It's a personal touch you rarely see anymore. Many of the customers are regulars (good sign).
I had the fried chicken. It was incredible. Not greasy, perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes were fresh as were the yams. The service isn't lighting fast, as real good food takes time to cook.
The prices are very reasonable.
I highly recommend. See you there, I'll be the guy with the chicken leg in my hand!
Update: The good people who ran this place have retired and the restaurant is no more.
Food was delicious, moderate prices, waitstaff extremely helpful, clean restaurant, good for families and it was very nice to meet the owner. Mrs Dent was pleasant and personable, I will definitely go back
Great southern place, Food flavors are well balanced and atmosphere is filled with true southern hospitality. Our server Brandon very nice your man and service was great !
The Cajun chicken is delicious. However. The attitude of the chef and the man at the desk was very impolite. I drove 30 minutes to try this food out but I was disappointed by their behavior. For a Saturday evening the place was pretty empty and I feel like it was because of the owners attitude because it's definitely not the food. The food was great, but it wasn't good enough for me to return and spend that amount of money to be treated like a nuisance especially since I drove that far. It's unfortunate they weren't better with customer service otherwise they'd have a loyal customer. But good food isn't rare and I didn't deserve the attitudes. Won't be returning unless I'm in the area and feel for southern cooking
Great spot. Feels very warm and welcoming. The chef was very friendly and the food is awesome. There were a lot of options on the menu, true soul food at its best. Everything I had was great. I had the blackened salmon, macaroni and cheese, and yams. My friend's enjoyed there food as well. This place is the best. It's truly a hidden gem in the heart of Nassau County. I will definitely be back.
So I went there on Tuesday with my partner and boy am i happy I did. When we got there, I think it was close to closing time so it was a bit empty but nonetheless, we sat down and the waitress came over to our table and offer us their delectable cornbread. I had a hard time selecting something from the menu because of the variety of food that they had. My partner had already chose something because of the multiple visits, but it was my first time. I finally made a decision on what I wanted. I ordered the Southern baked chicken and my partner ordered it fried. The waitress, (I can't believe i forgot her name, I need some slaps), she recommended the chicken to be baked and barbecued to me and I am so happy I listened to her. That chicken was so damn good. I was like WOW...I didn't want it to end. To go with the chicken, I had the house salad with Caesar dressing and french fries...and those were just another plus for me. To top everything off, I ordered the LL Dent paradise punch....Oh My God, that drink was the connection of heaven meeting earth. It was soooooooooooo good....I recommend this drink to everybody. It has alcohol, so not to whoever is driving, but to the rest a definite yes........I even wanted the glass it came in because it was so good and cute. I told the owner and the waitress that the food was so good, I want to go in my dialect, as I am Jamaican. My only problem was that it was only 1 piece of that delicious and succulent chicken. 1 piece, I wanted more... This place is highly recommended by me...so stop what you are doing and rush to LL Dent right now!!!!!! You will be glad you did....
Excellent food, warm friendly service. Clean comfortable environment . Nice size portion, fair pricing.Food was well seasoned. Fried green tomatoes were lightly battered and not greasy. Turkey wings were delicious as was the mac & cheese. I also enjoyed the collard greens even though I prefer my greens chopped fine. They weren't too big. I had the cinna-mint tea. Soooo good my first time trying it. I had the opportunity to chat with Lillian Dent & her daughter/ Chef. They are both delightful.
I highly recommend this restaurant . I was there on a Friday evening. Arrived at 7pm. I intend to come again . Plenty Parking
This restaurant hit the spot.
We shared a bottle of red wine and the deep fried chicken livers with onion gravy. I had the fried chicken with sides of cheesy grits and stewed okra & tomatoes. My handsome date had the blackened salmon for his dinner and left very happy as well. It was so yummy, on a cold night I couldn't have asked for a better meal!
The server was nice too!
Had a great time with my family here. The green friend tomatoes with horseradish was delicious and the chicken-malcolm chicken wings were fantastic. Had both the BBQ and smothered onion gravy.
Was so full from the meal that I couldn't even eat the Mac and cheese side.
Also the Southampton double white gave me a refreshing break from normal beers.
This is a southern food restaurant. When we walked into brunch on a Sunday early afternoon, we were warmly greeted by the hostess. Sunday brunch is a lavish buffet, which is served by one of the chefs, and another employee from behind the counter. There was smothered chicken, fried catfish, salmon croquettes, ribs, white rice with sausage gravy, dirty rice, mashed potatoes, home fries, mixed vegetables, omelettes made to order, waffles made to ordered served with your choice of fruit and whipped cream, syrup, butter; sweet potato pancakes, turkey legs, biscuits, cornbread squares, and dessert. The buffet included any type of non alcoholic beverages, including southern sweet tea. YUM. The chef, who is the owner's daughter, came around to every table to speak to us. The food was delicious. The wait staff served the beverages, and brought us anything we wanted. There is a full service bar. Alcoholic drinks are available at an additional cost. The food was wonderful. It was like eating in my southern grandmother's back porch in South Carolina. I would recommend it. And I would definitely go back. There are around 12 tables. It is a small restaurant. Prices are reasonable. There is a full menu for lunch and dinner during the week and dinner on Sunday night.
Fried chicken was absolutely delicious. The batter was crispy, flavorful, and the chicken was just juicy. Cole slaw was the right kind of tang to cut the grease and the collard greens were solid. Food is a bit slow but definitely worth the wait.
Really fresh well cooked southern fare with some hints of lightness that agree with the modern palate. The fried chicken was perfectly cooked, juicy and moist. Other favorites included the fried okra poppers, the Cole Slaw with hand cut cabbage and a delicious dressing without swimming in mayonnaise or dairy, collard Greens, and buttery fluffy mashed potatoes. And to top it off the absolute best sweet potato pie I have ever eaten. It was sweet but not cloying, a balance of warm spices and hints of citrus to lighten it. Absolutely delicious.
Great atmosphere. The staff and owner were very friendly. They meet and greet everyone. It feels like a family affair. In the plus the food was really good.Didn't even know there was a good southern cooking restaurant in Long Island. Great place to go.I would recommend anyone should try it.
