We’ve stayed here twice now with the previous owners annd the new owners and had a lovely time both times. Incredible three-course breakfast with pastries, and beautifully crafted main dishes, included in the stay. Comfortable and clean rooms, jacuzzi tubs are wonderful. And it’s just up the street from the Main Street and shops.
The service and staff are always so friendly and accommodating.
But the highlight is always the food and the three course dinners and dining experience. Sensational menus and flavors.
Rooms were only OK, but the beds were SUPER comfortable. Nothing luxurious, which was my expectation. Food was very, very good and the service was very good as well. I would definitely come back for a meal and a drink again as the location on Main St. was ideal.
I can't recommend the Hartstone Inn enough! The location to downtown Camden is fabulous and easily walkable to all restaurants and shopping. All the staff are friendly, offering suggestions on restaurants or places to get a cocktail and enjoy the views. The inn, too, is adorable, providing a perfect mix of the historical house and modern conveniences. The ensuite bathroom of the Toscana room was small but perfectly sufficient for showering. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable, and they provide USB charging on the nightstand. Breakfast is included with the rate and is served 8-10 am. I was pleasantly surprised with how tasty it was! They had delicious yogurt, granola, fresh wild Maine blueberries and other fruit, tasty croissants and other pastries, along with a buffet of scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, and bacon. Coffee was also really good! I am already looking forward to returning here!
Lovely rooms, clean and well appointed. Food was disappointing. We had been to two other bed and breakfasts in Maine during our time there that served gourmet breakfasts.. We were expecting something similar here but it wasn’t. They served buffet style standard breakfast. Eggs, bacon etc. not what is shown on their pictures. Service was slow while we were there and we couldn’t find anyone when we had questions. No one answered when I tried calling a couple times before we arrived either. They also lost our dinner reservation.
I would still stay there again because location is great and rooms are wonderful. I would just skip the food.
Wow, my wife and I were blown away by how wonderful this place is! The owners, management and all of the staff make you actually feel welcome. Honest-to-goodness graciousness, not spray-can, pasted on customer service ambience and compulsory smiles. The room was amazing, beautiful, comfortable, and the food, both dinner and breakfast... again, nothing short of spectacular, with way more-than-adequate portions, again, unusual in a restaurant of this caliber. We have not ever been to a better place in Maine, and we have lived all around the state for the last 35 years. Hope to see you all again! And the pricing is one of the most amazing values for any inn or restaurant, combined, to be found in the state!
We had a lovely stay here. The inn is very close to downtown and walkable to everything you could want to do in Camden. The on-site parking had plenty of spaces. Our room, and the inn overall, was very clean. The staff was very nice and welcoming. The breakfast included was tasty. We weren't able to do dinner as the dining room is closed Mon and Tues.
The only things that would say are: 1) the walls are a bit thin, our neighbors snoring and the church bell (that rings every hour on the hour throughout the day and night) can be heard very clearly from the room we stayed in (Toscana), and 2) the staff were very hard to find, though I'm not trying to be too harsh because we came at the end of the season and I know everyone is having staffing issues.
Overall, this was a lovely little stay. I would recommend if you're a light sleeper to consider which room you pick.
We stayed in Toscana on the second floor. The room was clean, comfortable and quite lovely. The staff was extremely kind and attentive and the location is walkable to everything in town.
We enjoyed the daily breakfast menu and would also encourage anyone visiting Camden to make dinner reservations at the inn. The dining experience was wonderful. We had a group of 6 and everyone loved their meal.
Thank you for great Maine getaway!
What an absolute gem. Every staff member here is so warm and inviting, they make you feel welcomed and cared for. We had the most delicious meals and cocktails, and enjoyed sitting outside by the fire. Our room was unbelievably cozy and spacious. Cannot recommend highly enough. The homemade cookies are to die for. We can’t wait to come back and try the cooking classes!
Right in the heart of downtown Camden all the shops and restaurants are in walking distance. Tasty beverages in the evening and a great breakfast in the morning. An all around successful stay
Different buildings might be a pain, but the rooms were clean, spacious and overall a good place to stop.
The experience was great. The room was nice and cozy with a great fireplace and comfy bed. The breakfast that was included was amazing and the dinner was tasty, different and fun. Kudos to the hostess who had to deal with a loud obnoxious couple claiming the food was reheated and it obviously wasn't. She handled it with great class as they tried to complain to other tables. We will be back!
We had a very nice stay here. The Inn is clean and comfortable, with great amenities, and an excellent staff. The location is perfect for exploring Camden and nearby towns. The only thing that could have made our stay better was having a room with a bathroom in it instead of down the hall, but it was the only room available. We’d happily stay here again if we return to Camden.
I called to see if guests other than the ones who are staying at the Inn can come for dinner. I was excited when they said yes. I loved the 3 course meal and $49 is very inexpensive for what you get. Delicious (more like so yummy I just want to taste more). The service is excellent and between the two servers, you're well cared for. I went on a Sunday rainy evening and was absolutely delighted. Thank you for being open. I had a terrific time.
For the courses,
Appetizer - Strawberry Rhubarb Gazpacho
Main Fare - Plantain Cod
Dessert - Strawberry Rhubarb Creme Brulee
We enjoyed our stay at the Hartstone Inn, so much in fact, that we will have a hard time staying at other bed and breakfasts! The staff was so friendly, the room was comfortable, and the food was AMAZING. I am gluten free, so I expected boring, bland food. Instead, I had the most delicious meals that were completely gluten-free. We loved our time in Camden, and especially our time at The Hartstone Inn.
Overall it was fine. Our room was pretty small especially the bathroom. I think we may not be "Inn people" anymore. The restaurant was good. Wish there were more options however. The 4 course meal was a nice experience but lots of added costs that we were not aware of or maybe were not paying close attention to. Breakfast was very limited. The staff were all nice and efficient. Special shout out to the young "intern" staff and good luck to them.
The Hartstone Inn was more lovely than I could have ever expected! The location couldn’t be more perfect for a stay in Camden - it’s just a moment’s walk from the harbor and all of the dining and shopping spots - not to mention that Camden is a wonderful location if you’re hoping to stay in one place and travel all over Maine. The city is beautiful and charming. Our stay at Hartstone was perfect from beginning to end - it overflows with hospitality and is a destination in itself, with a full bar and kitchen offering cookies in the afternoon for guests, a cocktail hour in the afternoon with specialty cocktails and hours d’oeuvres enjoyed in their lovely sitting rooms or beautiful patio/garden spaces, and meals created by their award-winning chef and owner, Chef Michael Salmon! Rooms and washrooms are very well appointed and continue that friendly and welcoming vibe with thoughtful additions like glass bottles of water and chocolate waiting for you. The staff at Hartstone are exceptional people - we felt so welcome the moment that we walked in! We loved our stay at Hartstone and I can’t say enough about it - I’ll recommend it to anyone I hear is headed to Maine. Thank you for a more than lovely stay!
The elephant in the room - the Inn was sold about a month ago. While I'm sure some guests were unhappy about this, the Inn and restaurant haven't changed a bit and are both amazing. We stayed 2 nights (10/21&10/22/2021) in the Paris Room on the 2nd floor. The attention to detail was incredible. The included breakfasts were delicious. We dined in the restaurant on our second night and absolutely loved it. Chef Brian has been with the Inn for 5 years and is still creating masterpieces. Cookies and coffee at 3PM and happy hour at 5PM with 1/2 priced cocktails and a free appetizer were great touches. The staff was extremely attentive, friendly and helpful and the general manager, Megan, took care of our every need. We just loved this Inn and will be back again for sure.
