Review Sodolaks Beefmasters Restaurant - Bryan

This is our favorite lunch spot. We love that this restaurant is ran by Christians. The food is delicious and reasonably priced! They have the best Chicken Fried Steak and sweet tea in the Brazos Valley. We never have to wait long to get our food. The lunch menu is even cheaper and the portion sizes are very generous.

This place has a really neat atmosphere, country, rustic,, but not over the top. Food was served fast & hot. The staff was friendly and engaging. Based on observations, it's Christian based company, which I admire. PS, the menu is pretty extensive and delicious. My daughter had chicken fried steak, which was more than she could eat. She kept going on about the brown gravy on the mashed potatoes, loved it! I had chicken special, with jalapeno, jack cheese, etc and pinto beans & spinach. Rolls were served with both dinners. It was great!

Always an excellent choice. Food was amazing and was ready for pickup at the time they said it would be. Always super friendly staff.

Atmosphere: When entering the restaurant you can read about the infamous fried bacon in the entryway. Once you walked pass the doors you are then greeted by an array of firefighter badges on the wall. All around the restaurant feels like southe comfort with the religious verses on the wall. Definitely suited the restaurant as a whole. Service: After receiving our menu, it did take awhile before anyone came to assist us. Another couple beside us actually pointed out to a waitress that we hadn't been helped and that she should assist us prior to taking her requests. Once we were able to to obtain our order, the waitress was helpful in recommendations and after taking our order it did take awhile to obtain the food. Quality: I ordered The C.O.P with out the mushrooms and grilled onions, in which I was surprised as to how much food I received but overall the food was just average. The combination was good but I there wasn't as much flavor as I thought it would be. On previous visits, I have ordered the lunch special ribeye and more often than not, it's good and cooked properly. The amount of steak for the price you pay is worth it as a lunch special. I would suggest trying the chicken fried bacon strips, it's definitely an experience.

I had a salad that came on a big plate... hard to eat. I needed a big bowl. The people at my table loved their food!

Food is amazing service is even better the prompt clean up is excellent. The prices are really good. I return at least 3 times a month.

I ordered the grilled chicken breast with fried okra, and a baked potato as my sides. Get home only one single okra and instant mashed potatoes. I called to report the problem and all they offered was my okra. Then she, didn’t get her name, told me they accidentally left the okra. What’s more upsetting is they had the number for the order and should have called to say so. I love the grilled chicken here but I won’t be returning to a place that doesn’t value me as a customer

I had the chicken fried steak with loaded mash potatoes & okra & mushrooms. The staff was friendly, kind, energetic, and overall it was great experience. We will be back!!

Ate here for the very first time while visiting my niece. The service was very slow, we were sat and had time to look at the menu, figure out what each of us wanted and ready to order before we were even acknowledged (about 20 min. no exaggeration). The waitress didn't seem to care that we had been waiting a while. We ordered fried mushrooms which seemed to be the frozen kind from any store and fried pickles which my niece loved. When our main entree arrived the food was not hot at all and the waitress entered in a wrong menu item so my sister had to wait to get her food. Over all the taste of the food was great, however the customer service was horrible and the temperature of the food inadequate. I would look for other restaurants around before going back.

The food is tastes great and the portions you get are massive, definitely won't leave there hungry. The service is kind of touch an go. We have had wonderful service and then at other times have been seated and it took forever for our server to even acknowledge us to the point we were ready to walk out. I think the issue is not the servers unwillingness to wait on you but that they are stretched too thin. Need more waitstaff usually only have 2 sometimes 3 for the entire restaurant even when it is a full house. Other than that it is our favorite restaurant. Defiantly worth the money and the wait.

Sirloin For Two $28 But It's Two Huge Sirloins...... They Are the Juiciest Best Steaks. Don't Dare Put Sauce on Them. It will feed 4 people. Just order xtra sides and drinks. No sauce needed, the best steak I've EVER eaten out of a restraunt. So worth the trip I take one a month to eat there

Terrible Service. The wait time was normal. Once seated, our waitress came over to take order, deliver and drop check. for all else in between we had to flag someone down to get condiments, napkins and even return an overcooked baked potato.

The food temperature was great but lacked seasoning on fish.
As my husband and I approached the register there were two couples and a couple of guys ahead of us all waiting to pay ticket. The cashier spoke very loud and enthusiastic to all. each couple ( who are separate groups) approached register individually handed her a ticket and she asked how they were doing and thank them. But when My husband and I approached the register she very loudly asked if it was separate or together?
I had not heard ask that question of anyone before us that presented her with one ticket. And both my husband and I responded it on the same ticket, so it is together. Then after she gave us total, my husband pulled out cash and she very loudly asked him "do you need change back?" I said he certainly do.
Because she only asked us, about whether our ticket was same tab; I hope she just didn't ask black couples. And I found it very inappropriate to ask someone if they want their change, when they had already tipped waitress. I'd much rather her sit a tip jar and let me make a decision if I want to leave my change. but not her asking for it. I have been here before and had better experiences with co workers. I was upset because I finally had convinced my husband to go there and he felt uncomfortable.

Home Cooking. If you are looking for the homogenized taste of a chain steakhouse then go to outback. Simple seasonings let the cut have its own flavor. You have got to like southern style cooking, if you do, you will love it... I did!

Damn that was good. I had the smothered chicken fried chicken.......whoa......that was freakin delicious.

Probably my least favorite place in the B/CS. I have given it multiple chances to redeem itself and it has failed ever time. From a rude waitstaff to below average food it has never been a good experience.

Better to go Anywhere Else. Been here in the past and it was fair - good enough to return, mainly due to the portions - but not again after our experience Saturday evening. We showed up with a party of 12 after graduation. The hostess did fine and the waitress was good enough, but the place had to be 85+ degrees in the dining room. I thought something must be wrong with the AC. It did not bother us that much so we went ahead and ordered. About halfway through our meal, my sister-in-law noticed a drop of water hit the edge of her plate. We all stopped and watched to see where it was coming from. Sure enough, another drop hit her plate that came from the AC vent above the table. It was so hot and humid that condensation started dropping out of the AC vent. Had any gotten in her food? Who knows, but needless to say, she was finished eating at that point. There is no telling how much mold and funk is in that vent.

As we were leaving I asked an employee about the AC. Had it just been broken I would not be posting this - failures happen. However, I was informed that they will not let the staff turn the AC down - further I was told I should feel how hot the kitchen was if I thought the dining area was bad AND I was not the first to point out condensation coming out of the vents!! Obviously this is an ongoing issue and there likely is a problem with the AC freezing up, but instead of having it serviced someones idea of a solution was to turn up the thermostat. I pressed on - asked who "they" were. I was told "they" meant the OWNER.

Ok - now this place gets a bad post. The owner can't pay for AC? In Texas? In June? Not to mention the health risk he's exposing his customers to when water from the AC vents drip into peoples food? How many people never noticed - AND - if he cuts corners with the AC, what else is he making the workers cut corners on? He lost my business....

Special Grilled Ribeye. On Friday, 02/22/2013, I was in a party of 7. My wife and I ordered the special which was a grilled Ribeye and 2 sides. I ordered my steak med well and my wife was well. The steak was cooked to her liking as well as mine. Both steaks were so tuff that we could hardly eat them. I am not acustomed to sending food back, but we alerted our server as to the tuffness of the steak. The steak was taken to the manager and returned to us with no comment. I have eaten at Sodolaks Beefmasters in Bryan on numerous occassions with no complainants. I am not looking for a free meal or anything of the such...but for the manager to disregard us was not professionial or customer service worthy. We could have eaten at any other establishment in the Bryan College Station area but we chose Sodolaks. I am from the Dallas area visting friends and family. I will not return

Salty. Very salty. The .... Salty. Very salty.

The steak was cooked perfectly but the salt and pepper rub was over powering. The country fried bacon was an interesting novelty however the salty breading over powered the bacon to the point it was not edible.

Our waitress, Jessica, was great.

Great food/service. Great food and service. Lunch has always been done with great staff and food always excellent.

Terrible, simply terrible. The steaks are quite big. But the good ends there. It was the toughest, most gristley piece of beef I have ever eaten. Everyone in my group said the same thing.

The baked potatos were dried out and bordering on cold.

It was a terrible meal, and we will not be back

The food was great, tea awesome, and the staff was always checking on us even tho it was a Friday night and the place was bussy! We ate at the BCS location

The service was horrible. Waitress was NOT friendly. Food was average. Tea was awesome. Won't go back. This was sodolaks in college station.
Virginia Baker
The service is horrible. The wait staff is slow and most of the time you can't find your server. The food on the other hand is awesome! I love the fried crawfish tails and I was disappointed when they stopped serving them at their University location but they are worth the drive. The steaks are huge and cheap for the size. My husband and I usually split a steak.

Not the best - not the worst. The food was decent. It wasn't the best "southern" food ever. I wasn't blown away by the food or the atmosphere. It was "eh."

Average. My chicken fried steak was run-of-the-mill.
If you want to cut into something other than a thin slice of meat served with commercial cream gravy, find another restaurant, or make your own. from a great round steak, run through the tenderizer twice, from Readfields Meat Market. I have had well-seasoned pork chops at Sodolaks and also some thin, drier ones. The vegetables are canned. It is an OK place to eat, but not ever my first choice for a meal. However, it does stay crowded..maybe by transplanted Texans or local folks who just like a filling meal and are not that discerning?

By far the Best Chicken Fried Steak in the WORLD......
Great Hamburger Steak also......

AWESOME!

Massive Slabs of Meat!. There is the original Sodolaks in Snook and then there is this Sodolaks here in the BCS area. It's just as good and the steaks are still the largest you've seen. Think of the biggest steak you get at another steakhouse now multiply it by 2 or 3 or sometimes 4 and that's what you can get at Sodolaks. It may not be the best quality meat as far as steaks go but if you are wanting to fill your belly with meat and lots of it, then come here and leave completely stuffed.

Always come hungry! The portions are Texas sized, but they don't sacrifice the quality for quantity. The food is very well prepared and is ALWAYS delicious. Great service and casual atmosphere. Highly highly highly recommended. :-)
