Review Yooki Yama Japanese Restaurant - Branford

Visiting Grandparents from out of town, they wouldn't stop talking about how fantastic the food was & I agree, probably the best I've ever had.

My favorite sushi spot in the state. Been going for a long time and I’ve never had a bad experience. I suggest sitting at the sushi bar. The dynamite hand roll, Lianne and Screaming Spicy are my three favorites. If you are in a hurry and they are busy this may not be the spot for you as there is limited staff and guests are not rushed through their meals and nor is the food.

Easily my favorite Sushi establishment on the shoreline, or anywhere else for that matter. I remember coming here in the 90s and it still the same family run business. I'm a huge fan of mushrooms and there is often a special that features fungi. The sashimi is always fresh as can be and also a favorite. Can't recommend this place highly enough

They have the best and freshest tuna probably in all of Connecticut. And the owners are always so friendly and happy to talk. Thanks for the great sushi as always.

My experience here was honestly the worst I have ever had at any restaurant. My friend had just moved into the area and we were all thrilled to try his new sushi joint - walking distance! We called ahead and we were seated promptly - Awesome. We ordered some appetizers and sake, and that's where things took a turn. The sake came in a tea cup with a broken handle - "If you just grab a napkin you can still sort of pour it"... Alright cool, whatever I guess... The appetizers came about an hour later, cold. They were still decent but had clearly been sitting for quite awhile. Then, about a half hour after that, comes the "Specialty Sushi" The rolls were described in great detail "Smoked Salmon", "Crab topping", "Scallions", "Home made organic Chili sauce"... We were expecting typical designer sushi rolls - Large, ornate, colorful. What we received surely couldn't be our order. The sushi was small, simple, rice, paper, one fish. We called over the waiter who called over the chef. He explained it was "All in there" and while waving his knife asked us if we wanted him to "Deconstruct it". We also asked why the orders, described as 8 pieces, were all 6... His answer "six looks better on the plate". We told him we did not need the food deconstructed, and if he seriously was defending that poor quality, we would take the check. He called the police. We waited and spoke to the excellent officers so we were not accused of anything we did not do. Paid the bill and left. Thankfully my bank reversed the charge - but buyer beware this place is an absolute scam if you have had anything resembling fresh quality sushi.

So amazing!! I ordered salmon sashimi and tuna with scallops! OMG SO Good! The owner is really nice! Well both are! I believe a husband and wife team. The miso soup was delicious too! Sake great! Thank you!!!

Fantastically fresh sushi, prepared meticulously before you by the lovely owner Seiko. We had delicious seafood soup and pumpkin soup, followed by the 14-piece sushi plate between two, each and every one of which was spectacular. Scrupulously clean and professional in preparation, with only the very freshest ingredients. No wonder this place has continued to be so hugely popular with locals for the last 15 years. We'll definitely be back!

The owner is a crook, we order a $30 sashimi plate and a $65 Sashimi plate as well and the difference is that he took the same amount of fish from the $30 plate and sliced it extremely thin. He did the same with the Russian roulette that had 3 layers of rice in a roll. No sushi place does that. We then received a spicy tuna roils that smell so bad and when we try to say something to both servers, they told us that they couldn’t tell the owner because they were afraid of the Asian owner. Even if other says it’s a great place, the owner is a crook and can not handle his fish properly. This guy should be shot down as business owner. Your are not getting your money worth and the fish was not fresh.

Best sushi place around -- hands down. Seiku is very knowledgable, and not only is the sushi amazingly fresh, but the whole experience is worth it -- as he gives you an education in sushi / sashimi. I don't know if I can eat at another sushi restaurant after eating there. The black fish (tautog) was great, as was the yellowfin tuna, salmon, and the shrimp and lobster tempura. I highly recommend it, and although a little pricey -- you get what you pay for, and they usually throw you extra things to try.

Fresh Sushi nice atmosphere nothing more to say. Oh yea and I love to hear all the fun facts about the different fish from master chef/owner. Always something new to learn.

Visited my family up here, but I am from Florida. Thought I knew what fresh sushi was - clearly I have been mislead! This is the best sushi I have ever had, hands down. What a great experience.

Hands down, the best sushi anywhere! Been coming here for ~15 years! Seiko is amazing and creates perfection every time!
