We showed up this past Wednesday with 2 rambunctious kids and 4 adults who had not seen each other in too long, and wanted to talk all night. We also had balloons and a cake since we were celebrating two birthdays. Our waiter was very gracious and patient even though we were quite a handful. We all loved our steaks and seafood, and the craft beer selection was a pleasant surprise for this beer snob (who would guess a country inn that has been around for decades would have such a modern list of local and highly-ranked beers!?) If I had to come up with any suggestions at all, I'd say that they should add one lighter/non-fried option to the appetizer menu, and a hot vegetarian entree or two (though the beet salad and the nice array of veggie sides were greatly appreciated!). Even just adding a veggie burger option to their burger list would be great.

We have visited Rip's three times and each time it has been an excellent experience.
The fried green tomatoes, topped with a little jalapeño sauce and crumbles of goat cheese, are absolutely stupendous. They are lightly battered and fried to a tasty, delicate crispiness.
The turkey hot sandwich I had was served over Bettys stuffing, with gravy, mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything tastes homemade. The green beans had obviously been cooked with some kind of salty meat to season them. They were delicious. The stuffing was tasty and the mashed potatoes fresh and fluffy. On the side they served a small container of ever so slightly spicy cranberry sauce. Next time I order this – I am going to ask for an extra serving of the cranberry sauce. It was yummy and the perfect compliment to the plate of comfort food.
I have also had the chopped steak plate. The high-quality hamburger patty was topped with several tablespoons of mushrooms, some tasty gravy and topped with a handful of onion strings. I ordered mine with the string beans and mashed potatoes which I had had before and on this second tasting were just as excellent. The meal came with a chewy dinner roll which was fresh and a perfect addition. The dinner roll was so good I ordered some to take home with me!
My husband has had the meatloaf twice and says it was great times two! A great home cooks recipe taste. He says to say that he loved the green beans because they were regular, old fashioned green beans, properly cooked and seasoned -- not the fancy french cut and undercooked kind he sometimes runs into.
I have ordered their bread pudding dessert twice to go home with. It is d delicious treat with the side of rum sauce and whipped cream.
The servers have been consistently friendly, welcoming and efficient. They are especially kind and solicitous with their senior guests and we have witnessed this on more than one visit. It certainly makes them special in that respect and sort of tells us what kind of folks they are. We love the country/horsey feel of the restaurant decor and the booths are cute and cozy.
Loved the chicken salad. The crab soup is SO thick and delicious, almost had to cut it with a fork. The house chips are so good! Fries were just okay. Chopped steak and beer cheese was good.
Love the rustic appearence and booth style seating. Service was good and food cooked just right. "The Tasty" was a good sandwich.
Rips is great for what it is—a slice of Americana on a plate. The food is as expected. My husbands short ribs were great. My liver and onions were great. The veggie of the day is likely fresh, but the green Beans might be canned. However, they are spruced up with bacon and onion. The mashed potatoes were good and likely the real thing. The prices are a bit high but inflation has hit everything nowadays. All in all, a nice place.
