Review El Matador Restaurant - Bountiful

The service was great. Super friendly staff and quick and efficient servers. The food was decent. The salsa for the chips and salsa they serve before the meal was different but tasty. The mango lemonade hit the spot. The fried ice cream was different. Didn’t seem fried. Overall a decent experience.

This is a decent Mexican food restaurant for Utahns. No Mexican music, no Mexican waitress, but the food was good - Not too spicy. Was there beer on the menu? I can't remember. My 14 yo thought the refried beans were crusty but I liked them and the ten year old did too. Three of us had the sweet pork enchiladas and we all agree that were good. Oh-and the kids' meal was a great deal. $8 for a ton of food! I'll go back. Maybe I'll take a bottle of hot sauce with me. 😏

Our server Logan M. Was great. Very attentive and quick to offer refills and another round of chips. Food was served hot and fresh. I would recommend the fajitas they were amazing. We ended the night with some churro bites which were a 10/10. Also very clean area. Thanks to Logan and the rest of the service for making a great night.

Love the warm salsa! Most places don't offer it this way but once you've tried it, it's hard to go back to cold salsa. Great staff, attentive and on-the-ball. Great food adapted to the tastes of the local people.

Truly a delightful experience! We will come again 😁 In spite of how busy it was, we were seats in a reasonable amount of time. Our server was very prompt and attentive. Prices were reasonable and very good compared to the portions. Everything we tried was delicious from the opening salsa to the sopapilla dots that were drizzled with honeybutter, caramel, and raspberry sauce!

Matador doesn’t miss!!! Maria’s enchiladas are my go to, and the chili verde is the absolute best! The Sopaipilla‘s are beyond! Always great service as well. I’ve been eating there since I was a kid and my family would go, so happy they’re still around!

We LOVE El Matador! Kami and her team always take such good care of us! They are quick to serve and I most love that they keep my drink full without me asking. The food is so yummy! We HIGHLY recommend!

El Matador has been a part of my life for over 35 years. I feel like family when I am here. The food is very consistent and delicious. The cheesy salsa is just about perfect. The owners are usually around and are the best. Love this spot!!!

Service was good. Table comes with chips and warm salsa. Salsa is tasty. Got the Especial with 3 different meats to try things out. Sweet pork was good. Ground beef was alright (tried someone else's dish). Chicken and shredded beef were meh. Others at my table got the citrus pork tacos and said they were pretty good. Place is pretty clean. Would eat there again.

We've been coming here for 25+ years, and it's the EXACT same quality, and good tasting food that we always remember. The management went above and beyond to make sure our experience was top notch! Such a wonderful experience, and we will be back!! P.S. Ask for grated cheese for your warm salsa. Thank me later. 😜 P.P.S. Get the sopapilla bites...amazing! Ate them too fast to get a proper photo!

Having been the restaurant that's been in Southern Davis County for so long, there is plenty of nostalgia and memories. The food has definitely changed over the years especially after the owner passed away and the head chef left. It still brings back those good times that were celebrated. I feel like if you stick to the classics and know what to expect from them as a Mexican restaurant it will live up to your expectations.

This is a great stop! Well worth it and no disappointments. The relleno is deep fried and packed with flavor. Seems to be the star of the Tour of Mexico platter. We also tried the fish tacos. Again deep fried with a lighter batter. The abundance of fresh produce in toppings made for a great crisp bite each time. Personally I'd ask for a side of the sauce to add some needed pop or ask them to hit your fish with some sauce before putting on the usual toppings + sauce. The fried ice cream was exactly as you'd expect. I'd say all a solid 4! The relleno is the highest achiever as far as what we hit. 2 items I always mention but never factor in to my rating. Service and atmosphere. Service was a 5 and atmosphere is a 4+. Nice and clean family atmosphere. Perhaps because we were stuffed in the back.

We loved the El Matador in Ogden and since it closed, thought we would try this one. Food was good but the chips and salsa here wasn’t nearly as good as it was at the Ogden one. We asked why they are different and were told that they were both opened years ago by brothers and the two brothers each T ran one of the locations. They kind of developed their own recipes, so they are a bit different. It was good food, but we were just used to the Ogden locations food.

Jesse was our waiter today and he was the BEST person I’ve ever had wait on me. He was so quick, efficient, kind, and professional. I will definitely be coming back, we love the experience we have had today.

This place is one of my favorite in Bountiful. The food is fairly consistent until the service can vary depending upon how busy the restaurant is. Overall I would give it a solid four stars for consistency. The servers are pleasant and seem to know the menu well. I was surprised at bringing my 85-year-old mother here that they had an extensive gluten-free menu as it had never crossed my mind that this would be a thing at a Mexican restaurant. If you are going to choose me to definitely try their carne asada or the sweet pork over the chicken or hamburger options as the latter two tend towards the bland side.
