It's pricey, but if you like good French wine it's a good place to go. The atmosphere is a great and the John the barman is quite nice. If you like raw food, I recommend the tartare.

Avocado toast is the best i’ve had: Imagine fresh crusty bread with gruyere that has been melted with the most perfect avocado sliced thin and fanned out like artwork… topped by a poached egg Magic! Took 35 minutes to get our food which was surprising for the lack of customers present My buddy had the french toast which was good

Great food and an excellent outdoor setting. We were able to make a reservation for an outdoor table and for a pleasant summer day, it was just perfect. Balmy and not too windy with some cute string lights. The food was all delicious and fresh. They gave us some fresh, warm bread to begin with and the butter was yum! We shared a appetiser: calamari and it was delicious. We ordered beef bourguignon and lobster risotto. Both were very well cooked and the taste was just top notch. Felt like we were transported back to France. Service was good. Friendly and the pacing was good (not rushing). Would definitely recommend this place!

My boyfriend and I came here for an anniversary dinner and everything was top notch. The wine recommendation, the food, and the service were all absolutely incredible. We couldn’t stop talking about how we can’t wait to come back. Our highlights were the seared foie gras and both dessert tartes!!

I grabbed an early dinner here as part of Boston Dines Out, and so had Le Foie Gras, Le Risotto, LA Poire, and the Something Sweet. All of it was wonderful! The restaurant was cozy and well kept, and the waitress was the perfect balance of being attentive without crowding the table. It started to get busy as I was heading out, so that's something to keep in mind if you're gonna go for a walk-in.

Great ambience and service, but the food was okay to good. The starting bread was warm and crusty and delicious. I tried the La Bouillabaisse (seafood stew) and Les Saint-Jacques (pan-seared scallops). The seafood stew was not that great but filling, and the scallops were excellent but really small in terms of portion-size. The dessert crepe was really really good!!

Great place to enjoy French food and desserts in an intimate vibe. Recently took a visit on a Sunday evening. The place was quite empty due to the snow, and we were able to snag one of the tables by the window overlooking the Newbury street. Although they are part of La Voile, their food menu was slightly different, so we decided to give them a try. Instead of the three-course dinner, we shared a couple appetizers and an entrée with some wine and cocktails. The drinks were solid, but we were more impressed with their food. Standout appetizers include the foie gras poêlé and the escargots with puff pastries. My only critique was that the crab flavor in the croquettes were too faint to notice, and it tasted more like regular potato croquettes. For the entrée, we shared the duck breast. As expected from a French restaurant, the duck was cooked perfectly, and each bite was a sheer bliss. The dessert option we chose was also top notch. Topped on mascarpone cheese and mildly sweet vanilla cream, La Poire came with an impeccable presentation, and it was certainly one of the best desserts I’ve had in a while. Our server and the manager was also very friendly, and I was impressed to see that the manager held the doors for us when we were leaving. Overall, Bar a vin exceeded our expectations, and we will definitely be back to try more of their entrée and dessert menus.
