Review Gene's Chinese Flatbread Cafe - Boston

Finally had time to try today. So glad I did. Right off the Mass Pike which is great for me. I got the pulled pork medium spice. Large serving with lots of pork and great thick noodles, off the charts delicious, the broth was heaven. One picture is when I was in my car, the 2nd when I got home and and tossed in a bowl.

This is probably my favorite place for lunch. I get the #4, extra spicy. It’s essentially just their amazing, thick, chewy noodles with spices, a ton of garlic (in the best way), cilantro, and a little oil. They never miss. Grab a couple of lamb skewers on the side and you won’t regret it! The #4 alone is under $10. They’re super quick as well. Sometimes after ordering online my order is ready in a few minutes.

Great value for money in Downtown Boston! This place is highly recommended for take out - they are known for the hand pulled noodles and their wonderfully meaty flatbread sandwiches (w. either lamb or pork filling). The hand-pulled noodles are thick and chewy (not my taste, honestly, but undeniably of good quality) and the broth is amazing. The flatbread sandwiches are a perfect lunch, if you are a meat lover. The meat is well seasoned and the flatbread was wonderfully crunchy. Highly recommended and very cheap! (like $7.00 for a sandwich). This place is super small and if you come hered to dine is be ready to use your elbows to get to your spot (either bar spot or just one table). It's also loud and the atmosphere is non existent. If you're looking for a greattly priced Chinese take out to enjoy at home, I'd highly recommend Gene's!

The house noodles #4 is a banger. Lamb skewers are amazing. Worth every penny. Hot and sour dumplings #11 pictures below, also delicious.

Good Xi'an food. Would highly recommend the biang biang noodles and tea egg. Lamb skewers were a bit sad. Didn't have that xi'an spice, nor the bbq flavor I was looking for.

Gene's Chinese Flatbread Cafe always serves amazing food. I eat from here once every two weeks. The food is plentiful, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. I will say the spice levels are no joke (even as someone with a high spice tolerance)- the Boston location definitely is spicier than the Woburn location. My favourite dish has to be #16 Hot Sour Noodle Soup

The lamb skewers were delicous - well seasoned and fatty, I am so glad we bought 10 of them. The pork flatbread sandwich was very tasty and had more flavour than the lamb one. Speedy service and a great price! Would definitely stop by next time we’re in Boston.

Ordered takeout for a quick bite for Saturday lunch. Food was ready in no time and was absolutely incredible. Had the hand pulled noodles, pork flatbread and lamb skewer all for under $20. Flavor was amazing on every item. Will be back here without a doubt.

5 stars for the price/quality balance. The hand-pulled lamb noodles are what they are most known for (a steal for 13$!), and they're definitely worth a try if you're in the area. It's not the best I've tried compared to other similar places in other cities, but it is the best option in Boston I have been to for this type of food. Noodles are a bit thick and chewy (if that's the texture you prefer then you will love!) and the chili oil and lamb is delicious. Wish there were a bit more vegetables in the bowl, but you can add extra toppings for additional fees. Food came relatively quick for a weekend lunch, but restaurant is very small, so you'll likely be looking at a takeout option if you go at a busy time. They accept both credit and cash, but don't really provide much service for dine in (much more of a self-service type place). Overall great option for fresh hand-pulled noodles in Boston!

The Lamb Noodle Soup was yummy! The Lamb Skewer was juicy and delicious as well!

Came here on a whim and was satisfied. Had #9, the cumin lamb and it was good. The noodles are thick, which I like, but wish they included more meat. It gets pretty congested during lunch time and the wait can be 15mins+. If you are ordering in person, you have to pay via cash; to use credit card you have to order online.

My husband and I ate here for a late lunch. This is easily one of my top five favorite restaurants that I have been to. We were lucky enough to snag one of the few tables available. Be prepared to take out when you order from here because there were about 4 places to eat. They are cash only if you order inside, but also have options to order online and pay via credit card. We had the lamb skewers, lamb noodles, pork flatbread sandwich, and pork hand pulled noodles. Everything was so fresh and flavorful! I was initially skeptical about the pork flatbread sandwich bc the pork looked dry, but was amazed to find that the pork was juicy and spiced perfectly. The sandwich "bread" was fresh and delicious! My husband loved the lamb and was so happy that he ordered it! I am not a huge fan of lamb, but really enjoyed the skewer! The seasoning was spicy and on point! The star of the show is the hand pulled noodles. They are so fresh that you can watch the chef make it through the kitchen window! Our only regret is that we live in St Louis and can't come here everyday! The prices are more than reasonable.

Gene's has been a consistently good experience for me since I started eating here since around 2016. Their food is fresh and if you order online the order is ready within a few minutes. It's a local gem that I recommend to many (especially if you like lamb).

It was good, but the environment could be better. Also they really don’t serve a lot of picked garlic with the noodles, I got 2 really small cloves after I peeled them, I asked for some more because it was really only enough for my boyfriend and I to have one small bite each, but they didn’t allow it. It’s understandable but still disappointing none the less. But overall I enjoyed the food that I got, I liked that I got to pick my own sized bread pieces for the noodles as well!

The dumpling soup was one of the greatest things I have ever tasted. The skewers were a surprise hit! Be sure to order one! The only downside was it was pretty hot in the restaurant.

Really great find on our trip, enjoyed the hand pulled noodles (no broth just chili oil) lamb skewers, pork and lamb burgers. The spice level I got was the spiciest and it was just right. Cash or they have a digital kiosk as well as some Asian drinks to try. The lychee was surprisingly refreshing with the spice. Would go again next time.
