They have the best hotpot in the town! Truly recommend to that place!
This is my favorite restaurant in Boston. Service and food are top notch. I highly recommend the surf and turf and the Sichuan chili broth.
We've never had a bad meal at either location. The food is fresh. The servers are attentive. The atmosphere is always inviting. The restaurant is clean. We've been going to Shabu-Zen for years and were thrilled when the Allston location opened. The parking is a bit tight, so be aware that you may have to fight for a parking space or end up on the street because the parking lot in the back of the restaurant isn't very big. It's always full from about an hour after opening to close.
I love the flavor or the broths! And seafood and veggies are always fresh

Love it! We go every time we visit Boston. Everyone is friendly and accommodating not to mention the great food and portions.
Great service great food. Would go here again the next time I'm in the area.
My favorite. My visit is not complete without dining here.
Fresh, high-quality ingredients with some delicious soup broths - we got Mongolian spicy and tomato veggie. The lamb and salmon were our favorites. Lots of vegetarian options as well.
Went to Shabu Zen for hot pot as a delayed Chinese New Year celebration. On a Saturday night unless you come really early like at 5pm, be prepared for a wait of 30-40 minutes. The service is a little slow and the chatter from patrons can be loud and fills the room. On the positive side, once the food arrives, things move fast. We ordered 3 of the meat combo dishes. The beef, lamb, pork and chicken were of high quality and there were lots of vegetables with each order. They have a good selection of sake and beer and the coconut sorbet was a great way to top off the meal. Parking was hard to find and the small restaurant parking lot fills up fast. All in all it was a very good experience.
This restaurant is a fabulous place to eat Hot Pot. I've been to many, and this is one of the best! Very comfortable, very fresh, tasty food and sauces. You'll enjoy it!!!
Perfectly fine hot pot! Ingredients are fresh enough, selection is wide enough, broth is flavorful enough, and price is good. I do wish they had more exotic meats and seafoods on the menu.
The place is nice and big and has parking which is a plus!
The broths were really good, especially the Tom Yum and Szechuan. The meat is nicely cut, good thickness but I'd prefer a bit more on the portions. We ordered the combo and it came with veggies platter and noodles. Drinks are cute, most of them are really sweet so if you have a sweet tooth, this is for you.
Getting a lot more pricier than when I used to lived in Allston a few years back but still one of the best hot pot restaurant in my opinion. Used to be able to go crazy when I ordered but now I have to carefully order because it can be quite expensive. I usually get the tom yum broth. I also loves the sautéed baby clams and beef tongue appetizer. Watermelon smoothie for drinks.
One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Came here with a friend to celebrate my 22nd birthday, and their 21st birthday. The staff were super kind, and very helpful. As a picky eater, even I loved their food and kept wanting more! I highly recommend this place, and I look forward to coming back in the future!
Shabuzen, a classic hotpot dinning experience.
Shabuzen is probably the second most expensive hotpot restaurant other than Q-restaurant. For example, one order of tofu comes with 5-7 pieces, and costs $5 to order. As of 05/30/2022, the prices have also gone up a tad. Jumbo meats are now basically ~ $33 a plate.
In terms of quality, it's probably one of the best out there. The kimchi broth is a go to order for soup bases.
I do believe that given the price, there should be more food on the plate. Other than that, everything was pretty good.
Waiters are friendly there is hardly ever a line (except Friday evenings). They have a small parking lot behind the restaurant.
Great food and really nice service!
Giving Shabu-Zen a five star not because it has the best quality of meat BUT the staff here is extremely nice, the restaurant is clean, and the price is so worth it for what you get. I ordered a $22 regular combo set and I was still full beyond dinner time. Definitely recommend dining during lunch time it gets pretty packed during dinner.
I had an excellent experience. I got there around 8:15 or 8:20 with no reservation, they asked to Wait only ten minutes and in 10 minutes I got a nice spot. It’s a clean place with nice people around. Nice place to hang out with friends, family. The waitress I don’t know if her name is Sara have to us a nice recommendation, very polite. I love that place and I will back soon.
Heard a lot about this hotpot place and I gotta say that it's well worth the hype. The meat was excellent and the szechuan broth that accompanied it was hot and delicious. The sesame sauce is a MUST order. It elevates the hotpot experience to the next level! True essence of comfort food.
it's ok. if you like hot pot and cooking your own food. they bring out a lot of food but skimp on the stuff you like. the server dropped a couple bundles of noodles from our plate and kicked them under the table instead of cleaning them up and didn't bring out more to replace them. there was a lot of food left on the table because it wasn't what we wanted to eat, it just came with the order. I don't think we had enough to eat. what we had was only ok. I really don't like cooking my own food or communal food so I wouldn't choose this on my own.
Quick service, great array of options, including for vegans and vegetarians. Meat and vegetables are fresh. The broth is flavorful. They have lots of seating so the wait is never too long
Shabby-Zen is an amazing restaurant and one of my new favorites my brother told my family and I about this place so we took him
For his birthday . I love the food the atmosphere is amazing and the waiters and waitresses are kind and very professional. The hosts are professional as well. MY family and I have been there twice so far an I can say I am going to go again and again. The first time I went I had the ox artery and I was so impressed because it tasted amazing . Today I had the lamb it was fantastic . The waiter that we had today was amazing and very kind. The waitress that we had the first time I believe her name is Ivy ( not sure ) but she was really good . We saw her today and she remembered that we loved the shrimp and fish paste and she even brought us over this red bean and rice dessert. She is an amazing employee . If your could i would give this place a 10/10 because it’s really and amazing restaurant in
I have been to quite a few Hot Pot places and I think this place is good for its value. It’s cheaper than some Hot pot places. My only complain with their broth is, it can get incredibly salty at the end.
A standout option for Hotpot in Allston. The restaurant is large with a full menu and bar. Soups range from spicy Szechuan to flavorful mushroom. There is a large variety of additions to any hotpot meal. Staff are friendly, attentive, and fast.
What a fantastic experience! Tbh, we initially went to Spring Shabu Shabu and because they were at capacity, we came here. And I'm very glad that we did.
We were promptly seated at a table. Our server kindly explained all their combos, how the process works and our food was ready in minutes. She also offered us green tea which is complimentary.
We ordered two broths (Thai Tom Yum, spicy Chinese Mongolian) and the vegetarian delight platter. All this was for $22 for two and we still had leftovers. Coming back to the food, there was so much variety in that platter - taro, pumpkin, greens, bok choy, yam noodles, mushrooms, etc. Both broths were spiced well, hot and tasty. You also get a choice of noodles or rice. We got the udon and it was cooked well. The food comes with a side of sauces - peanut sauce, Thai chili sauce and soy sauce that you can adjust to your liking with garlic, scallions, shrimp paste, etc.
Everything was amazing. It was great to see that each food item had a distinct flavor profile. Everytime you dipped your veggie in a different sauce, you would end up with a different result but all delicious. Since we couldn't finish our food, we packed up the leftovers in our containers and ordered some dessert to counter the hot broths. We got a Hana sake (lychee) and a small scoop of ice cream. They were kind enough to split it between two flavors, green tea and red bean. Both were great. However, they served it with plastic spoons which really doesn't fit in with the restaurant. I hope they switch over to something reusable!
All in all, we had a great experience. We could sit back and enjoy our meal, we never felt rushed. I would be back in a heart beat!
The food was great and there were alot of delicious options to choose from. Everything tasted very fresh and the serving size felt well portioned.
The waiters were super friendly and intuitive, Making sure our needs were met before we even asked. They were enthusiastic and patient. They made the night into a lovely experience full of laughter, it makes me eager to return.
The restaurant is clean and beautiful with nice bathrooms. There is an indoor area to take pictures, rest and play games with friends.
There's also a parking lot out back. And a gas station and japanese bakery right on the same street. Making the whole area a nice place for a date.
