One of the top three pasta spots in Boston.
A renowned name in Boston's pasta scene, MIDA lived up to its reputation during my recent visit. While the service wasn't exceptionally warm, it was efficient, and their pasta more than compensated.
Our meal began with Sicilian Mussels and Arancini. Both appetizers were enjoyable, though they didn't particularly stand out as exceptional. However, the main draw at MIDA was undoubtedly Chef Williams' hand-made pasta.
The pasta dishes showcased a perfect al dente texture. Among the ones we ordered, the Rock Shrimp Carbonara and the Short Rib Lasagna were the highlights. Chef Williams' focus on acidity brought a unique twist to traditional recipes - the carbonara, with its unconventional zest from lemon juice, might stray from tradition but delivered a fascinating flavor profile. Its flavors perfectly blended with the succulent texture of the rock shrimp, which was reminiscent of a delicate botan ebi sushi.
Short rib lasagna was another perfection. The ribs weren’t as tender as expected, but they were crisply cooked, reducing the fatty feel and lending the lasagna a more balanced flavor profile.
As MIDA extends its reach across Boston, the opportunity to savor their exquisite pasta dishes has become more accessible than ever. While I’m not sure if the pasta from other places will match the quality of the ones from this original location, MIDA presents a great alternative for anyone seeking a departure from the conventional red-sauce pastas of North End.
A quaint little restaurant - reservations are definitely recommended as it is small. The service is fantastic! Staff are very friendly & they have a coat check. They have a decent sized cocktail list - I loved the Apollonia Spritz. For starters, I highly recommend the arancini! We also had a side of foccacia which was amazing. Gnocchi & lasagna were yummy. Make sure you finish your meal with some Gelato!
We called and asked for a very last minute reservation for 6 people at 5:15pm and they were able to accommodate us on the patio! Service was excellent, and the food was even better!! Every dish ordered was delicious and beautifully made! I would definitely come back.
Arancini, Short Rib Lasagna and Shakshuka were all highlights! Definitely recommend all these dishes. Everything was super flavorful and comforting. Atmosphere is super clean and nice, and service was attentive. Will definitely come again to try more!
Loved the food especially the aracini and the eggplant Parmesan are a must try. My mouth is drooling thinking about the eggplant Parmesan! The waiter was very kind and replaced one of our undercooked pesto pasta with a fresh plate. I live lasagnas and finding a veggie lasagna is so hard but the eggplant Parmesan was just perfect! Just wish the place was a bit more spacious.
Perfect Italian food in the South End of Boston with Gluten Free Pasta!!
My wife and I went here on a Sunday evening for dinner, and loved it all. The service was immaculate, we were greeted right away. We sat down and our drinks came right out. They took our order all at once as they want to be the ones to worry about when to deliver (apps vs 1st and second etc). The food was delicious and probably the best Italian I’ve had in Boston. We started with mussels and arancini. Then moved to all’amatriciana, and shrimp carbonara. All delicious!! For desert we each got raspberry sorbet with espresso.
Prices were great. So much lower than the rest of Boston. Parking is hard to find so I suggest taking an Uber. The inside is spacious but small. It’s a cool set up with the bar right as you come in the front door. We certainly will be back!
Everything about this place is incredible - the atmosphere, the service, cocktails, food, dessert - it’s truly a joy to eat here. Some highlights include the arancini, antipasti plate, carbonara, roast chicken and short rib lasagna. We also had the tiramisu which was such a treat and great way to round out the meal. If you’re looking for an upscale yet relaxing dining experience in Boston - COME HERE! Everything we had was to die for (special shout-out to the chicken & risotto - some of the best I’ve ever had). My new favorite restaurant in Boston.
Five stars earned! Best calamari (misto) i've had in my life second only to giodanis in Chicago. The lemons and peppers make it. The ricotta gnocchi was also the best I've ever had in my life. So Soft and squishy with amazing flavor! The bread they brought out seemed to be whole wheat sourdough, warm and recently toasted. Impeccable taste. The short rib lasagna was innovative, hardy and delicious. The atmosphere were clean, sheek, and beautiful. Service was wonderful and friendly. A day later we are still thinking about how delicious and wonderful the experience was. We will be returning for occasions since the price is a but higher than we normally use.
One of the best Italian restaurants in Boston. Food was good and flavorful. The foccacia and risotto were highlights, but mostly because I've made short rib lasagna myself a few times. Service was also great. Servers were attentive and accommodating.
When it comes to Italian cuisine, I have to admit that I hold it to a high standard, perhaps even a bit unfairly. In that regard, this restaurant earns a 3/5 in comparison to the exceptional Italian food I've had elsewhere. However, considering it's nestled in Boston, it deserves a commendable 4/5. The olives and salumi were undoubtedly the highlights of the meal, offering an authentic and flavorful start.
While my expectations were quite high, the pasta dishes, unfortunately, didn't quite meet them. They weren't bad by any means, but they didn't leave a lasting impression. As for the service, it was decent—efficient and attentive without being overly intrusive.
All in all, if you find yourself in Boston craving Italian fare, this restaurant is a good choice. It may not transport you to Italy, but it certainly offers a satisfying dining experience in its own right.
