Review Brassica Kitchen And Cafe - Boston

Simply put, Brassica Kitchen is excellent. It is a cozy, inviting neighborhood spot, but for those who don’t live south of Boston, it’s worth the trip. The service is exceptionally friendly and eager to please. The food is creative and eclectic. It leans slightly Asian but other times it’s French, or Southern, or maybe Italian, or something else. The great wine list is full of unique finds that most people haven’t had a chance to try. Everything I’ve eaten there has been great but the dishes I most recommend are: fried chicken, risotto, bolognese, anything with green curry, dessert (toffee cake or donut). Finally, if you want a great cocktail at a local, low price, get a glass from the infinity bottle, a combination of a bunch of different house spirits. At $6 you cannot beat it.

I was a bit skeptical when I first saw the menu. I love meat and seeing so many vegetarian options made me think I was not going to like their offerings. I was fooled! One of the most amazing meals I’ve had in a long time. The pupusa was big and delicious and the cilantro sauce and egg on top were the best compliment. My friend got the chicken and waffles and that was some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. Would definitely recommend.

This place can get quite busy, so be sure to make a reservation beforehand! The inside has sort of an industrial feel, and the tables are very (almost too) close together. The tables are also quite small, which made it difficult to eat. I tried the B.K. chicken & waffles and French toast. The portion sizes were good--each plate was big enough to satisfy/fill one person. The waffles were cooked nicely, but the chicken was dry when I went. However, I liked the hot sauce that came with the dish. The French toast was pretty good but not the best that I've had. If I hadn't split the French toast with a friend, it might have been too sweet to finish on my own. However, I still preferred the French toast over the dry B.K. chicken & waffles. Our waiter was friendly and kind enough to take a polaroid for us. Note that they charge a 20% administrative fee + 3% benefits fee in lieu of traditional gratuity. If I come back, it would be to try the doughnuts, as I've heard good reviews of those.

Everything is great here, but I thought it was over priced for what you get. Plus there’s a mandatory 23% tip added to the bill. One thing that wasn’t over priced was the flan dessert. People talk about the donut (which is good), but the flan is better.

I've really enjoyed everything I've eaten here. Ambiance is nice. Backyard vibes for the patio. Brunch fried rice is bomb. So tasty, excellent flavors, lots of things in there. Biscuits and gravy with fried chicken was so tasty I couldn't stop eating it. My friend got the bean and cheese papusa and seemed to enjoy

Booked a dinner reservation for my birthday. Reservations were super easy and even though I showed up slightly late because of transit delays there was still a choice of a bar or table for me. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. I tried a number of drinks and they were all excellent. I got the beets, koji risotto and fried chicken and it was plenty for me. All were excellent and I would recommend even the beets which historically haven't been my favorite vegetable. I got tonka bean ice cream for dessert which was an excellent cap to an excellent meal. Certainly one of the top dinners I've had in Boston. 100% will return. The location is also excellent being right next to Forrest Hills.

Wonderful meal and wonderful service! We had a modified version of the tasting menu (modified because I'm pescatarian). Everything was wonderful! The curry cake and hamachi tuna were especially excellent! My husband really enjoyed the duck and maitake mushroom tacos as well. The wine list is also great!

It was a wonderful dining experience. Everything was thoughtfully put together and was delicious. The ceviche was outstanding along. The fried chicken was also very good (get the tiger milk hot sauce) We had a great experience and will definitely be back . They do add a 20% tax onto the check for the entire staff which I wasn’t mad about at all. If you aren’t tipping 20% anyways you shouldn’t be eating out 🤷🏻‍♂️

Great restaurant great prices. Wait staff was very kind and polite. We got the chicken and waffles and pupusa for breakfast/brunch. We also made a reservation ahead of time which was a great idea! Hoping to come back again in the future.

If you are looking for a great spot, great people, great service and of course GREAT FOOD that changes frequently but remains AWESOMR, this is the place! The ambiance is small, loud and cozy. We started with cocktails, “Gray Gardens” and “For the Birds”. M wife loved the Smokey mezcal and I loved my tequila! We then shared *Grilled Yellow Edge Grouper, Koii Risotto, Caramelized Chicken, and pork tacos. The grouper was light and unbelievably delicious. The risotto was creamy and amazing as always. The sauces on the chicken were delightful and last but not least the pork in the tiny tacos was just mouthwatering. We loved them so much that we got another order. I could eat here every weekend.

We decided to try this place based on the good reviews and I have to say we were not disappointed. The brunch menu was somewhat limited but it compensated with quality. We were four people, each of us ordered something different, and everyone was very pleased with their order. I haven't tried my friends order as I cannot eat spicy food but my omelette was great. Soft and cooked to the right point. The flavours we're rich but carefully balanced. It was a real pleasure. We sat outside because it was a really nice day (a warm early autumn day) and the patio is quaint but nothing special. The inside also did not bear any character that would give the place a special atmosphere. When we arrived it took quite a while to get seated (about 40 min) as they were very busy. The service was rather slow but we have been there only once and it's difficult to say of it's a regular thing or just a fluke. Despite the slow service, the staff was really nice, which is something that make the food always more enjoyable. Overall, it's not a place where you go because of the special atmosphere, but it's a place you go if you want good food. I forgot to mention that prices were also very good for portion size and food quality. Warmly recommended.

Some interesting options on the brunch menu. The Corn Cachapa was kind of a cross between a pancake, corn tortilla, and omelette. Very tasty. Sticky home fries were like regular home fries with a light caramel glazing. We had a couple of the donuts with fun toppings; however, definitely not worth four dollars each. Warning: do not get the Gray Gardens cocktail. It tastes like a cross between turpentine, hydrochloric acid, and evil intentions. They automatically add 23% to your check for tip and employee medical, which I think is a great way to do it.

We went to this restaurant for the first time on new years eve and it was delicious! The staff were all very friendly and the food had so much flavor. My only criticism was that the food was a bit rushed but it was also new years so that is understandable. We would definitely go back again! On new years the first dish was scallop and sea urchin, the next eel on waffle, fried chicken with a cream sauce and caviar, then a beef A5 dip, cabbage with a miso sauce, mackerel with a been and onion puree, duck breast shaved over potatoes, and a chocolate donut. My favorite were the chicken, eel, and scallop dishes. We also got the wine pairing which was quite good and a great way to try new wines. I just wished they had paired a half glass with each dish instead of a full glass with every 2 dishes. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great restaurant and look forward to going back!

If I could give this 10 stars I would. The food was absolutely phenomenal. I have celiac and I need to eat fully gluten free and I felt safe here. They marked up their normal menu with all of the naturally gluten free items I could eat, which was about 80% of the menu including desserts. It was delicious and made even better by being allergen friendly.

Chicken was dark meat from chicken thigh, which was not denoted on the menu. As such, food was inedible to me. Others would really like it but for picky meat eaters, be wary!!!

What a cozy place with delicious food . My husband had chicken biscotti curry and he said that was the best he ever had in Boston. I also love their vegan omelette. They have plenty of options for drinks and vegan food. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area.

Dinner here was epic. The atmosphere is casual and professional, and they have the confidence that comes from knowing their stuff. It's definitely the best food me and my group had in a while. Keep it up. You folks are awesome!

I’ve been here for brunch and brunch takeout many times, but I just recently discovered that they have the most insanely delicious curried mussels ever on their dinner menu. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about them since I went for dinner on Saturday evening. So that inspired me to write this review. Whoever came up with that recipe is a culinary genius. Can’t wait to come back and eat them again. And of course I’ll be back for brunch.

Had the most epic dining experience last night with old friends. Jay and his staff treated us like family and took the time to help each one of us sitting at the table with our weird dietary restrictions and questions. I personally loved the smoked oysters, miso buttered brussel sprouts, & 5 spice beef sausage was all to die for!! And my entree squid ink pasta with charred octopus in umeboshi was killer, a serious flavor bomb. The cherry on top was how rad it was to come into my homey's restaurant on a Friday night to watch his staff crank out made from scratch, to order dishes and cocktails like a smooth well oiled machine. It really did put a smile on my face! I highly recommend checking Brassica out for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Sat at the bar for dinner (always the best place to sit) Talked to the bartender about the cocktails offered. She made a suggestion and I went with it...a lavender and hybiscus infused vodka cocktail... yum! We had two appetizers, two mains (fried chicken and a soft shell crab sandwich) and creme brulee..so fresh, clean and amazing. Go asap!

After eating dinner there this evening, I have to have a piece of peanut butter toast before going to bed so that I can fall asleep without hungriness keeping me awake. My wife and I spent $100 there and didn't get enough food to fill us up. We could have ordered more, of course, but then our bill would have really been exorbitant for a Wednesday night after-work meal. The flavors of the dishes were really delicious. But, for example, we each got literally two bites of the flounder dish, which cost us I think $16. I am very familiar with tapas style dining but I usually expect each tapas dish to be in the $8-$10 range so that the total bill for the evening ends up being something more reasonable. Overall, the food was too "precious" and not hearty and sustaining enough for dinner. Just another example of the gentrification of Forest Hills and the rest of Jamaica Plain. Also, I got referred to as "pal", "guy", "buddy" and "friend" many times by the wait staff, which I found bizarre and off-putting. I really regret going here, and not because the food tasted bad--quite the opposite. But not worth it. One more thing: it was dollar oyster night, which was great, but the oysters weren't on ice so they weren't cold, which makes a big difference.

Amazing food! The ribs, the cocktails...omg! Also the restaurant staff was very courteous. I highly recommend this place.

By far best coffe shop. I treat myself to there turkey avocado sandwich as mush as possible. And healthy which is what i need. There cold brew is on point. Strong and way better than a redbull to start your day. I have nothing but great things to say about this place...

We celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary at Brassica last night, and it was probably the best meal I've ever had. We were treated like royalty. The host, waitstaff and even the chef came over to congratulate us. We had the 6 course tasting menu with many rounds of drinks. I'll be thinking about this meal for a long, long time it was that good. So glad to have this addition in the neighborhood... we'll be back often! (Order an Espresso Martini... it's not on the menu, and it takes a little bit of time, but it's only because they'll pull a shot fresh!)

This place is seriously one of the best restaurants in Boston! Get the fried chicken, stay for the home made ice cream!

Definitely the best place in JP for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Cocktails... if not the best in Boston.

I am obsessed with the tower street and kimchi grilled cheese! All of the staff are awesome and the caffeinated beverages are on point. Definitely worth a visit.

My story with Brassica started one wintry night in a raging snowstorm. I walked in and there was one person at the bar (maybe two.) No other customers. Immediately I was welcomed. I get called 'sir' a lot, which i take as a high compliment but that night it was all 'brother'. And I proceeded to have a vegetarian tasting menu and I didn't remember what I had, hence no review. But the chef owner & all of the waitstaff were very friendly, just as they continue to be. I kept returning, alone and inconspicuous at the bar. Tonight I finally brought friends with me. I dined on beets (pistachio, kale & yogurt) , maple brussel sprouts, red kun gnocchi (I didn't know what it was either) & pomme anna (the waitress was right, it's exquisite!) most of which i shared, and my friends had the burger & oysters & something that looked like chili. My friend from Toronto said he could eat there every day. Previously I've stayed away from Brassica's desserts, but my friends chose honey pie, while I opted for the yam based dessert with coconut. The sound of the latter may be off-putting, but what I tasted was a marvelous creation. The restaurant ambiance is warm with brick and wood, and it's casual. Glad I stumbled in, on purpose, one wintry night. Highly recommended.

Wonderful coffee and breakfast sandwiches and Sunday morning add live music.. This can be your everyday restaurant (try the chicken with a side of Brussel sprouts!) or do the full gourmet tasting menu. So glad to have something so well done in the area. The cocktail program is inventive and yummy...We often pop in after 9 just to have a wonderful desert and cocktail.

One of the best meals you can have in Boston and the best Brussel Sprouts I've ever had.

So excited to have this amazing food in the neighborhood! I had high expectations and it was even better than expected. Can't decide which was my favorite...fried chicken, uni butter Brussel sprouts, or creme brûlée.

Loved my meal at Brassica Kitchen & Cafe last month and can't wait to go back soon. Amazing flavor and super friendly staff. Get one if the tasting menus. You won't be sorry!
