Review Lone Star Taco Bar - Boston

Nika Nunley
Welcoming neighborhood taco bar. I had the fish taco and spicy beef taco with the Mexicano Margarita. The staff is fun and friendly but so are their patrons! Great to hang out or for a quick satisfying meal. Their tortilla chips are thick, hot and fresh.

The food was good. I got the rice and beans, 2 different fish tacos and a strong El Diablo margarita. Chips and salsa was ok. Nice service too.

A gem in the neighborhood!!! The tacos are amazing, the torta is delicious, the corn super tasty and if you go for brunch the breakfast taco is probably my favorite! Of the tres leches is great too

The lone star taco bar is one of the few places with food available late into the night, and the food is goood!

Food: Grilled street corn (Corn on the cob topped with cotija + garlic-lime aioli); Veracruz fish (Grilled spice-rubbed red perch, avocado crema, salsa quemada, napa cabbage); Baja fried fish (Beer battered fresh white fish, pickled red cabbage, mango-habanero aioli) Ambiance: It was a very upbeat, casual, dim lit venue. Parking: Street meter parking is available, but it is difficult to find a spot. Pricing: The prices seemed fair. Food (flavors): The street corn was really good. I loved the sweet, savory, and fatty flavors in the street corn dish. The Baja fish tacos were also really good and had a sweet and savory flavor to them; I loved the pickled red cabbage in the taco. The Veracruz taco was very salty, the saltiness of the fish overpowered the other flavors in the taco. Portion size: The tacos and corn were small, but they were fulfilling. I had 3 pieces of small corn and 2 tacos. If you'd like more reviews, follow me on IG at fave_foodie.

Everything was tasty! Staff was quick and friendly. We had fish tacos, birria, beef tacos. Definitely get the street corn and guacamole to start. The margaritas were fresh and not super spicy. Lots of seating inside and out.

Best tacos I have found outside of Mexico, bar none. This place is great. The Barbacoa was incredible, carnitas amazing, fish tacos were flawless, and to my surprise, the Mexican hotdog was bomb. Best hotdog I've had in years. Solid cocktails too. The jalapeño margaritas were great. Definitely will go back when I'm in Cambridge. This will be my go-to for after bar food!! Highly recommended.

First, I love Boston. This is my first time spending time in the Cambridge area and it was amazing. As a native Texan, of course I had to go to a place called Lone Star Taco Bar. The vibe is great. The Birria Taco was delicious. The drinks (plural) were authentic. I will be back again.

The food here was delicious, we tried quite a few different tacos, and the guacamole was very good. Drinks were kind of expensive for what you got but still a great go-to spot in Cambridge

Best brunch if you're craving tacos and adult beverages. Delicious tacos and friendly service. But this is not a place to sit and relax for long time, it's just too busy. The inside is quite small but they have outdoor seating too.

We love Lone Star Taco bar. It's our go-to Mexican restaurant. Tacos are great. Chili con Queso is a favorite. I'm also a huge fan on the Lucha Libre margarita with orange blossom water. Make sure to check out the specials of the day. Their shrimp taco special is amazing!

Wonderful service. Great food. The barbacoa taco was excellent as was the Ensalada Tropical. The Baja tacos were superb. With the mild acidity of the red cabbage perfectly complimenting the perfectly fried fish. The piquant mango aioli (?) took it to another level. One of my favorite tacos by far. Will definitely be back for more.

Late night spot. Prices were very reasonable.

I could eat the Chili con Carne from Lone Star in Brighton with a side of their tortilla chips and wash it down with an Agua de Tamarindo cocktail (ok, maybe two) every day and never get tired of it! The staff rocks, too! LOVE this place and I'm there at least twice a month!

Nachos were amazing. Street corn is hands down best corn I’ve had at any restaurant. A must try! Saw it on TV. So glad we decided to try this during our trip to Boston

Absolutely delicious. Highly recommend if you are in the Boston area. Either for a good quick lunch, date night or a group of friends before the Sox.

Stopped by yesterday for some afternoon margaritas! Bartenders were great and entertaining - Always love coming to this spot!

Great food atmosphere, just a cool authentic place ( yeah, I know) though food is authentic.

I always brunch here, the best huevos rancheros and tostada in Boston! Don't miss it!

Grilled avocado taco—I can’t tell you how good it is. Go-to for vegetarians!!

5 stars on huevos rancheros, beef barbacoa tacos and carnitas

The street corn was amazing. Our waitress was super accommodating of our bachelor party group.

Best place to get tacos in the city. Michelada is what dreams are made of.

Special Tacos of the day, tequila, slushy drinks, great guacamole, chips and many other choices keep us coming back every week...the corn cakes are amazing!

Awesome food, Awesome Service. My first time today and certainly not my last. Street Corn is an experience everyone must have. Drinks were perfect. YUM!

Best fish tacos in the word. I'm super addicted

Being from Texas I am hyper critical of tacos. These hit the mark for sure. I had the brisket taco and the spiced beef taco. Both were flavorful and well done. The salsa could have been hotter but ok. Service was good and atmosphere was average.

As many of you know, it's no secret that we love brunching at Deep Ellum in Allston! Did you know they have a sister restaurant right next door called Lone Star? We usually walk past it, but this time we decided to duck in and try their tacos - and were so glad we did!. Lone Star has this great, rustic ambiance. Filled with exposed brick, wooden panels and stools, and steel top tables with exposed rivets, it really sets the scene for a great meal.

This wasn't named best tacos in Boston for no reason! My favorite is the Beef Barbacoa which inspired me to make it on my blog : www.thebusybostonian.com ! I dont usually eat fish, but anyone Ive ever gone with loves the daily fried fish taco. For brunch the corn pancakes are amazing

Seriously. Not even close to real Mexican food!!

Tacos and Drinks!. It was dark and a little cramped in there, a popular place on a Friday night. They have a really nice cocktail, beer, mezcal and whiskey selection. The brunch menu looks really fun.

The beef barbacoa taco was big, with lots of juicy meat. Unfortunately the meat was a little too chewy and the flavor completely overpowered the pickled red onion, avocado crema, and cotija cheese.

The chorizo taco was better, allowing the queso fresco and pickled radish, if not the mint, to come through.

They have these nice thick corn tortillas so that just one holds up just fine.

The guacamole was $9, but it was a big serving and served with freshly fried tortilla chips. It tasted like they might be putting some sour cream in there though, something that thins the flavor a bit. It could've used some onion, garlic and peppers.

Their are two hot sauce bottles out for your usage. The orange one is nice and hot and apparently has some sweet potatoes involved in it. I recommend stirring some in the guac if everyone in your party can handle it.

Brunch:
Huevos Rancheros: Decent
Breakfast Taco: If you've had a real breakfast taco, don't get this.
Jalapeno Corncakes: These are pretty fun.

Super night out. Just tried this place. We selected it based on the existing reviews and the irresistable concept of tacos and drinks. Food was terrific (we had assorted varieties of tacos, and quac and chips), drinks were great as well - the mugarita was a prize. Best part was the atmosphere: cool mix of bar and restaurant, and lone star ambiance. Service was quite good as well. Much recommended.

Lunch with coworkers Friday 3/2/12, I'm very picky. The good: House made tortillas! Thank you. Great tacos. You're probably safe with any. Great tequila and mezcal selection. Lots of pickled stuff. The meh: The guacamole wasn't that great, I prefer mine without crema. I'd like to see a menu that changes often, I assume it doesn't much because they're laminated. On those same lines, some specials would be sweet. Conclusion: You have to go at least once, the food is really spectacular. If I knew there would be menu variations I would go more often (read: more than once).

Really delicious! We ate so many tacos that it was an expensive night, more money than we thought we were going to spend, but good to try out the place once. It’s location and lack of parking make it kind of pain to get to. The food was good, and if it were more convenient,

Speaking of hangovers -- Lone Star is the ideal brunch spot. This is coming from someone who generally has an intense dislike for “brunch.” Lone Star serves its full menu all day, so you can sit at the zinc bar (which the owners drove all the way up from Savannah, Georgia in one solid piece) and get yourself some huevos rancheros (house made tortillas, fried eggs, house beans, ranchero sauce, avocado, and queso fresco). Having already had an awful egg breakfast down the street at a new diner, my husband and I ordered the grilled avocado with griddled queso (salsa verde and corn relish) taco; the chicken ranchero toastada (beans, ranchero sauce, napa cabbage, and crema); and the dallas spicy beef taco (fried tortilla, mushrooms, chilis, and longhorn cheese). While Casey (another awesome bartender) placed our order and made our michelada’s I asked Brian about the simple menu. “We don’t need to pretty it up,” he said. “At night this place is a margarita factory, so we didn’t want the menu

the guacamole that was absolutely the best guacamole I have had. It was unbelievable. Seriously - this is how everyone should make it, so much flavor and spice! Everything that came out of the kitchen was delicious! These tacos (~$4) were large and came two per serving. All the cotija cheese was fresh and added the authentic taste that so many Mexican places are missing. The different meat varieties were cooked perfectly tender and had their own taste and texture. Each of toppings were selected to highlight the best parts of each dish.

Can you hear the hipster bellies growling? Yeah, follow that sound. Follow it into Allston to the door with no sign. If you are observant, you may catch the "lone star" hanging high above the front. Braving the possible withdrawn stares, I decided not to wear skinny jeans and giant head phones as I headed into the latest food hot-spot to hit the Boston area. To tell the truth, at the time of writing this post, I have managed to make the trip to Lone Star Taco Bar 3 times in 3 weeks. I do not repeat restaurant visits back to back like this, so that in itself (and the title of this post) gives you a hint of how I feel about this joint. Despite the emo-filled air, the interior, and the staff at Lone Star, and all super welcoming. The staff is happy to answer questions, or give you as much time as you like to just sit and chat. Granted, I have only been for lunch and it has never been super busy. But let's talk about the real reason you are reading the post…the food. Man, I am jonesing f

We both agreed that Lone Star Taco Bar was a nice spot for lunch, and four tacos and some chips and salsa was plenty filling for us. The restaurant is very small and has a casual, bar-like atmosphere. There were a few other diners in there when we went around 1:30 in the afternoon. It wouldn't be somewhere I'd trek to for a nice dinner, but we enjoyed having lunch there and found the tacos interesting and well-composed for the most part.

So, dear friends, if you’re in the area, I urge you to seek out this little hidden gem in Allston. There’s no name on the outside, but it’s right beside Deep Ellum.
Kristen Fenton
From the crew who runs Deep Ellum in Allston comes an adjoining taco bar that goes by the name of Lone Star, where the Texas inspired vibe is casual with an understated hipness. Look for the single hanging star on the exterior, and settle into a vintage wooden booth under a giant mounted bison head, or pull up a stool at the custom zinc bar backed by an impressive stock of tequilas and mezcal.

I wish I lived closer to Lone Star because I want to go back and try everything else. It’s perfect for a casual and quick lunch, dinner, or anytime taco fix.

Yesterday I tried Lone Star Taco Bar ‘s new weekday brunch with the Boston Brunchers . I had been to Lone Star Taco Bar once before, just a couple of months ago, but had a strange experience. It was a Saturday night and the wait was probably twice as long as the hour they told us it would be. By the time we sat down, we were definitely a few drinks deep, the seating was uncomfortably cramped, and we were absolutely starving. I remember that the food was tasty, but we didn’t get a chance to really enjoy it! I was glad to return to Lone Star Taco Bar and try the food again, especially because I always hear nothing but good things about it. When we sat down, we were given both the brunch and regular menu. They sent us a bunch of appetizers to share, and then we ordered what we wanted off of either menu. Please note that all food was complimentary, but the opinions are my own. The Guacamole tasted fresh and the avocados seemed perfectly ripe, but I thought it needed a touch more salt. The
