Review Brown Sugar Cafe - Boston

Absolutely loved the Brown Sugar Mango Fried Rice! Food was all around great and the service was kind and helpful. Many options from a range of prices, from a couple dollars to around twenty five.

My family and I frequented Brown Sugar when they started in the Fenway. As far as I know, they have 2 other locations now. I am not too keene on their Brookline location, but I waa at the Allston location this time, and it was great! Loved the food, the atmosphere was great, even kid/family friendly. My daughter is vegan/pescatarian and they had loads of options for her. She absolutely loved it.

Honestly the best food I've ever had, the crispy rolls are made fresh in house or a least taste like it. 10/10 would recommend the fried ice cream

Good Thai place. Loved the entrance and the interiors. Gives authentic Thai vibe. The hostess was very friendly and kept checking on us periodically. Service was quick and lot of menu on the items to choose from. We ordered Thai ice tea, chicken satay, crab Rangoon, brown sugar mango rice, Salmon Sui sui curry. Food tasted good overall. Salmon in the curry could have been softer. Almond in the mango rice could have been avoided. Although, I think these are not a big concern.

Food is decent and atmosphere is relaxed. We liked the brown sugar duck and drunken noodles but did not like the Tom yum soup. A good place to meet with friends.

Brown Sugar Cafe is my favorite Thai restaurant. The food and service are always impeccable. My favorite lunch order was the chili duck rice plate with the lunch special of the side salad and chicken spring roll. I would ask the server to omit the onions. For dinner, there was a pork dish on the Thai special menu -- last item on the pork dishes page, that I liked, but didn't know how to pronounce. Brown Sugar is beautiful inside with high ceilings and pretty decorations. The ribs appetizer is addictingly good. The Thai iced coffee and Thai iced tea are both wonderful, and I ask for little ice.

I came across Brown Sugar when I checked if Similan’s in Cambridge is still open. Basically their menu’s the same, and the food is also good! I love the Crispy Catfish (more like a salad) and would have it with a side of plain white rice. The crispy pork with chili and basil rice plate is also worth it. The pork is perfectly crispy and had no “smell”. I do recommend ordering mild as it could be really spicy. Definitely will be back!

Very good Thai food, very reasonably priced, and good value given their proportion size. Decor and atmosphere were above average, the place looked good and clean, nothing extremely special. Service was alright, servers did not really greet us or anything, it was very functional and efficient, which was fine, the job was done, just nothing exceptional. One thing about the service that did stick out was that the food was spicy, and we complained about it, originally we were met with a little bit of opposition, but they eventually made up for it giving the friend a sweet drink. Overall, I would come back, and give it a good reccomendation.

Great place. Authentic Thai food. Birthday party has special music, light, and cake to celebrate. Stuffed wings 4/5 Taste great with sweet chili sauce. Crispy chicken outing with stuffed inside. Without sauce it’s a bit dry Tom yum gong soup 5/5 Super good. Authentic flavor Khao Moo Dang 5/5 So good. Authentic flavor. Huge amount Khao Kah Moo 3/5 Soft pork but no strong flavor. Sauce is sour spicy which I’m not a fan. I asked for sweet chili sauce for dipping.

Been here many times and their food always taste great. Also the restaurant is always clean and people who work here are always very nice. Highly recommend pad Thai, drunken noodle, pineapple fried rice and all the duck dishes.

We enjoyed the food and the quick service. I ordered duck chilli which was good and had a little kick to it. I didn’t enjoy the duck as much but I would definitely go back to try something else. I highly recommend their Pad Thai!! Delicioussss!!!

Wonderful ambience with the table settings, statues and the linen origami. We went early to Mothers Day lunch where each dish was fresh, hot and super tasty. Love the soft crab pad Thai! Would recommend to any true Thai food lover.

I grew up in Boston and lived down the street from Brown Sugar after college. Although all the food is amazing, nothing comes close to the crispy pad thai (served only during dinner hours). I haven't been there since I moved 14 yrs ago. Last week I had to come home for my Father's funeral. Everyone wanted to bring food or get take out. All I wanted was Brown Sugar. Yesterday after a long week I took my Mom there for a Mother / Son lunch before I had to fly home. She had never been. She was so happy and loved everything about our experience.I orderedcrispy pad Thai and than I ordered another to go for dinner. Thank you to a restaurant that is above all others and holds a special place in my heart. Thank You!

This was going to be a place where we thought our son who is going to Boston University could find good chicken satay for takeout. Not only do they have excellent chicken satay but the place went from zero occupants at 12 pm to a full house from 12:30 -2:00pm. All the food was aromatic, clean , fresh and tasty.

Always delicious well-prepared Thai food. Love starting the meal with their Papaya salad.

The food is great, service was prompt and friendly, and the price is right. All around a great experience. I'll definitely be back.

I think I was one of their first customers a couple of decades ago when they opened in the Fenway on Jersey St. The food, service & ambience that was then is no different today. While I no longer live in Boston, every time I do get back it is a must do at least once.

Food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Enjoyed the experience immensely.

3 words, must go here. Authentic, no BS, legit Thai cuisine. You should definitely try the Drunken noodles and the sprig rolls here. The service is pretty good. It is a tad bit overpriced, but definitely worth a try.Ambience, Taste, Price, Service- 4/5

Brown Sugar---a rather misleading name for a Vietnamese,Thai oriental restaurant. The place is easily accessible being on the broad Commonwealth Ave in Boston with paeking available . The place has a warm buzzing atmosphere with plenty of tables BUT still it gets pretty crowded so a booking in the evening is a must. Nice décor and good service. The Menu has a wide selection and is purely Indo Chinese/Thai-so don't expect your Manchurian and Cantonese here !!The Satay both beef and chicken are tender and tasty and a good way to start. The soup can be skipped unless its cold and wintery. The popular Sea Food Volcano was ordered and boy was there a great lot of goodies in it--shrimps,calamari,scallops,bokchoy mussels, and more. Luckily we shared it as its quite sumptuous. The Bird of Paradise was ALL seafood too--but mainly Salmon--and No Bird !!! Tasty, really Yummm.! The Poo Pad Pong garee consisted of Crab(claws and all),egg, shrimp veggies and was superb. The flavours are subtle and not overpowering or spicy. The Stickey rice went down well while the Dan Dan Noodles are the BEST weve had. Really superb. It was somebodys birthday so all the servers did a nice song and jig which really warmed up the place.A great place an highly recommended.

My favorite meal in the world is Country Style Pad Thai from Brown Sugar. I've been going since they were located near Fenway, 7-8 years ago, and whenever I am in Boston I make it a specific stop for this meal. Consistently good tasting and fresh food.

Good stuff. There's always a huge line during meal times, and there's no lot for parking. also, seats are a bit tight amongst one another, and you're risking to brush off people's food from their table as you pass. service is ok, but sometimes a bit tough. if you can get over those few things, this place does have very good thai food.

it's been a while since i was last there, but i remember their duck curry was sooooo good. creamy, not too spicy, just pure goodness. although the next time i went back and ordered it specifically to relive the moment, the curry that time was way spicier than i remembered it. so, a little inconsistency there. other signature dishes like pad thai, always good.

used to crave this place every now and then when i lived in the area; haven't been back for a while. but if i ever crave thai food, that's gonna be one of my choices unless it's in the middle of hard, bitter cold winter where we wait outside till we all freeze up.
:)

One of the best Thai restuarants my wife and I have ever been to. Once you walk in it is very apparent the owners have tried to create an atmosphere of excellence and autheticity. The menu has many choices including daily specials. We had the soft shell crab pad Thai, which gave a New England twist on this Thai staple. Hands down best Pad Thai I have had to date. One caution - they don't hold back on spice- so be careful when adding extra to your choices. The end of the menu also features authentic Thai choices. Finally, I must mention that when they recognize a birthday - the lights dim, a laser light show begins, and a VERY Thai vocalist break out in the traditional American song. Very worthy for any friend you wish to put in the spotlight.

Overall, our experience at Brown Sugar Cafe was delightful. The service was spectacular- our water and tea were always filled and we never had to flag down a waiter. The cuisine was scrumptious and made with fresh ingredients. To top it all off, the decor was top-notch - from folded cloth napkins to giant aquariums, Christmas trees, and chandeliers. I absolutely recommend Brown Sugar to anyone looking to get their Thai cuisine fix in Boston.

Who says Asian restaurants can’t be classy or cute? Brown Sugar Café in Brighton breaks the stereotype of Asian restaurants with its lovely atmosphere and decorations. Of course, there are many others that also beautiful decor, but at the price and quality of Brown Sugar? Not as many. I appreciate it when restaurants have nice table settings and silverware. Brown Sugar had a simple but cute setting. I particularly liked the small little arrangement and their forks and knives. The service was very good too. We were frequently asked how everything was, and our glasses were never more than half empty. What I loved most, though, was the restaurant’s interior. On the side of the restaurant where we sat, there were beautiful clear frames with butterfly arrangements lining the walls and an elegant chandelier. On the other side of the restaurant, there are small wall carpets lining the walls and cute lights hanging from the ceiling. Outside, there are even a few tables available. Thai Spring R

we decided to go to brown sugar cafe to get some thai food since i haven’t been to this place forever. i went to college in syracuse, i had the best thai food in america there. the thai places in boston are just mehhhh. the bff can’t have meat so we ordered the tofu triangles with peanut sauce for appetizer. i ordered the green curry with chicken, the chicken was dry, but the curry was alright. the bff had veggie pad thai. it looked kinda bland, but it actually tasted alright. i never get pad thai i have no idea why. i don’t think i can possibly finish an entire portion of pad thai. i would feel super nauseous because it’s sweet. oh last but not least! thai iced tea!!! pure heaven if you are a vegetarian, make sure you tell the waiter that do not put any fish sauce. the cook pretty much everything with fish sauce. btw, i had diarrhea not long after i lef

Enjoying the long weekend, we had lunch Monday at Brown Sugar Cafe . While I have been to the sister restaurant, The Similans, a few times, but I have never been to the original. We both started with a Singha. This was my first Thai beer. It was pretty good, but reminded me a bit of Heineken (which I am not a fan of). Not that that stopped me from ordering a second! First course, Brown Sugar Fresh Rolls - Special fresh rolls filled with shrimp, shredded carrots, cucumbers, fresh lettuce and sweet basil leaves. Served with House Special Turnip Sauce topped with crushed peanuts. We've made these at home before but they've never come out quite so good looking! Second course, Chicken Satay (my favorite!)- C harcoal grilled chicken on bamboo skewers. Served with peanut sauce and cucumber sauce . I need to learn how to make cucumber sauce - you can put that shit on anything! Third course, Country Style Pad Thai - An authentic spicy version of Pad Thai with egg, chicken and shrimp, plus extra

Yesterday, an out-of-state friend was in town, staying in a Back Bay hostel. Joel and I were in Cleveland Circle. Brown Sugar Cafe seemed like a logical halfway point to meet for lunch. Plus, on the first gorgeous day of the season, it was the perfect tim

I had one of the best dinners in awhile last night at the Brown Sugar Cafe, a Thai restaurant with two locations in Boston. We went to Brown Sugar's Commonwealth Avenue location last night, and it was every bit as good as the one on Jersey Street.
