Review Meritage Restaurant - Boston

Michael Zhang
For events big or small, I believe Meritage can easily handle them all. This elegant dining establishment situated right on the water features wonderful views of the harbor, spectacular service, and amazing menu selection. I came here for NYE, and had all my expectations met, with some even being exceeded! Course timing was perfect, and the ambiance was both intimate and welcoming. Those who are searching for a taste of the best of Boston need not look any further. If this was helpful, please consider a thumbs up. It would be greatly-appreciated!

An excellent and surprisingly affordable (compared to its peers) fine dining experience. The views of Boston Harbor and the airplanes taking off and landing at Logan are a lovely bonus. While they take their wines extremely seriously (the wine list has many bottles priced in the hundreds and even thousands of dollars), you can get a very enjoyable three-glass flight to go with your meal for about $25. Service is on par with the best fine dining available in Boston. Plating is amazingly playful, with (spoiler alert) dry ice coming with the scallops and the mushroom dish served on a beautiful wooden platter. All told, you can get out of there for $80 per person with wine, so quite reasonable for what you're getting. Highly recommended!

I recently went to Meritage with my wife for dinner on her birthday. It was an amazing experience and my wife has been on cloud-9 since. This is less a dinner out and more a dining experience. The staff are all top tier professional and offered a complimentary champagne and wrote a nice happy birthday note on the desert dish for the special occasion. My wife had an amazing view of the harbor which she loved as well. I saw some other reviews comment on the food quality. I can kind of understand as they don't season the way I think a lot of people anticipate. Everything is more about complimentary flavors and emphasizing the ingredients over adding gratuitous flavoring. If you like heavily salted or sugary food you might not be a fan. I found everything amazing though. Perfectly cooked and in unique combinations but not gimmicky. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and friendly and happy to entertain all our questions. They kept us updated on kitchen times and promptly removed used dishes. The small dishes offer a nice sample while the large dishes left both my wife and I satiated. We both felt well attended to without being badgered. While the prices are a high they are not unreasonable. I found myself almost considering it a bargain at the end of the night for the experience we had. If you're more price conscious like myself you might not find yourself here regularly but I highly recommend it for a special occasion and look forward to returning in the future.

The service was great. The drinks were fantastic. The food was expertly prepared. Easily the best meal I had in Boston recently. I really want to give this place 5 stars, but I can't because of the atmosphere. I have had a number of meals rivaling the one I had at Meritage, but those places didn't feel stuffy. Those places had extensive wine menus and sommeliers as well. They just didn't have the vibe. If you want to feel elegant then this will be your place, but if you just want a really good meal then this might feel like too much for you. It really is a nice restaurant. It's just not my kind of place.

This was hands down the best meal I ever had! I went all in with the vineyard to table wine and food pairing, and my wife has a prix fixe meal without the wine, but she added a cheese tasting. Every course was creative, expertly paired, and totally delicious. We enjoy good food, but don't often splurge on fine dining, but this was more than worth the price of admission!!

Went with friends and did the 5 course menu with wine pairing (several chef extras at no charge). Excellent food, wine and service, with relaxing atmosphere and harbor view. Would definitely go back again for a special celebration. There are few restaurants that can match this place for quality, attention to detail and selection. The dishes were superb snd the wine selection perfect. My highest recommendation.

Absolutely superb dining experience for actually reasonable prices. We went there for a dinner, casual dressed, only to discover everyone in fancy suits and dresses, but that was not a problem because everyone is welcome here! The appetizers were superb, especially the yellow tune, salmon tartar and the scallops. For main course we had fillet mignon and a pheasant, which were both delicacies. All deserts were no less good. The place has an enormous choice of wines and a good bar. The service is top notch and as in the best fine dining restaurants. Definitely check it out.

My girlfriend and I came here for drinks on the patio recently. The staff was very friendly, and we had no trouble getting a table for just drinks during dinner hours. The beer list is very limited, but the mixed drinks make up for it. Prices weren't out of line given the location (~$15/cocktail), and I would say the drinks were worth it. The patio has fire space heaters, and we would come back again in the future.

We sat at the bar of Meritage Restaurant. Not to be mistaken for the wine bar on the street level, Meritage is on the second floor of the Boston Harbor hotel. The bartender , Gramm was wise beyond his years. He provided excellent service , similiar to the service we received at at Michelin Five Star restaurant in Vienna, Austria. We had three appetizers and a dessert. Each one was a treasure. The atmosphere was nothing I have experienced in the city since moving there 16 months ago. A true hidden gem to me and maybe you too.We will return and sit at the bar or request a table overlooking the Boston Harbor.

I had the strange experience of eating here as an event staff member. They treated us like paying guests and fed us the same meal our clients were having. I've never had this happen before! We even had a full tea service! It was a wonderful surprise only helped by the wonderful lobster risotto, Sea Bass and the humungous creme brule. I don't know if I would be able to eat here with their prices again, but if you're looking for a view of the harbor or a luxurious eating experience or a place to host your company's event, I highly recommend the Meritage. The staff will take care of you!

We knew coming here was going to be an authentic experience of the finer things, and interesting it was even more than that. It had you feeling like a Roman lord with the dishes and the etiquette. The smell when entering makes your mouth water and this delight when the next plate comes is something of a sensation. If you are looking for elegant this is the place to visit.

Fantastic experience from the valet, hotel personal, hostess, and waitstaff. We felt extra special and will remember this birthday dinner for many years to come. We had the prixe fix (4 course with amuse bouche and bread course) I am baffled how someone could complain that there was not enough food for the price. We both had to take home a portion of our main entree. Each dish was skillfully prepared, especially the foie gras, halibut, and sirloin. High praise to the back of the house and chefs. Meritage, we will be seeing you again very soon. Great job everyone! Your Mangers and executive chef should be proud.

This has been the BEST restaurant experience of my life as of yet. From the moment we walked in, my husband and I felt like royalty. We were asked if we'd like our coats taken to the cloak room. Then, after we'd been seated, the host inquired if we needed any accommodations in regards to the menu, to which I answered that I had a nickel allergy. After being briefed on the foods I can't consume, and being informed that I could not touch metal, the host left to inform the wait staff and chef. The waiter brought out a delicious mousse with pomegranate jam in a porcelain vessel, instead of the customary metal one, and explained this was in respect to my nickel allergy. The host, after doing some scouting in the hotel which has this restaurant inside, returned with fancy cloth gloves for me to wear so as not to touch the metal sliverware. I was pleasantly surprised, because most restaurants either offer plasticware or a napkin to wrap around the silverware. I never received gloves. On top of all the precautions taken in regards to my allergy,  the chef came out to verify exactly what ingredients he had to avoid in order to modify my dish for my needs. I was beyond impressed already, but when the food came out...wow. The presentation was creative and artistic, a summer themed meal in a box of fresh, growing grass. The meal- rabbit done 3 ways- was an art all its own. The flavors left nothing to be desired. The rabbit was soft, tender, moist...simply scrumptious. And the Arnold Palmer in the center was a fine finish to complete the surreal picnic experience. All throughout the experience we had courteous servers. We were given beautiful decadent chocolates in personal sizes boxes to take home as favors upon the retrieval of our coats. I highly recommend Meritage for anyone who doesn't mind spending the extra money for an elegant, romantic, all-around perfect experience. Meritage has redefined the meaning of Fine dining. From the service to the presentation to the taste of the food,  the quality of this restaurant is unparalleled. Your special occasion will be well spent here. Thank you again, Meritage staff! You have set a high standard! Bravo!

If you want World Class then you have come to the right place. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and they treated us like royalty. To knowing our names, along with the added attention and detail, it was a night we will never forget. Highly recommend if you want to treat yourself and your significant other to a wonderful time.

This is what fine dining is supposed to be: innovative cuisine, perfectly presented, graciously served, with a view of the harbor that just adds to the romance. Caviar topped oysters, perfectly chilled; tarragon jumbo shrimp; black grouper Quinoa, a perfect swordfish filet, and wine to match the dish, if one desires. The nut tasting dessert was amazing. Not overpriced for this kind of a meal, with a staff that even knows to not rattle dishes.

A couple of things off the top. There is a $50 charge per person when canceling a reservation less than 48 hours from the actual reservation. I don't think this was communicated to me before or during the reservation process via OpenTable. I saw it after and was disappointed as plans do change and things do come up. When my friend asked how dead set I was on eating here, I almost had a heart attack at the prospect of paying for nothing.
