Review Select Oyster Bar - Boston

Celine Ann Trinidad
Good light seafood options. Their tuna tartare flavorful with a little touch of avocado at the bottom. I could finish 2 orders myself! Oysters are fresh, the vinegar delicious and matches well with the oysters. Both fish options, Arctic Char and Halibut are good just a matter of which fish you prefer. Can skip the lobster salad, most of my group were not fond of it due to the “flowery” flavor on the vinegrette used.

One of the best meals I’ve had in Boston. Creative dishes, super fresh seafood, and expert execution. Make reservations and go out of your way to check it out, Select is worth it

Second time here... and the food is as good as I remember (came last in Dec 2021)... We were 30 minutes early and they were kind enough to seat us...we started with oysters... The Maine ones are sweeter while the Massachusetts ones are saltier but all really REALLY good - had to do a repeat of Norumbroga! For mains had the sea-bream and ceviche. All awesome. Note the sea-bream is served whole with bones but the taste is exquisite. For drinks, has the pomegranate with lemon as well as the ginger habanero drink. Impeccable service, very friendly people.

First time (Sept 2023) Octopus was ok (too heavy on the dressing) Beet salad was good Mussels were the best! The mussels were ok but the broth was absolutely delicious The bisque was high on fish and shell fish the broth was very lame compared to the broth from the mussels Service at the bar was good

Ordered: Oysters & the Swordfish Cost: $70 Thoughts: Great atmosphere, good oysters, and an incredible blend of flavors in the swordfish.. nothing too overbearing. Would definitely recommend, but it is a little pricy for what you get.

Highly recommend you come here. Fresh and delicious seafood! The Spanish Octopus was so good, we had to order it twice!

This cute upscale restaurant gets very busy very quickly after 5 o’clock, so I would recommend making reservations even if you are a small party. The only reason why I attached the bill is because our waitress didn’t tell us that there was an auto pay to the F 23% didn’t tell us at the loss of over $60 and it felt like she was rushing us from the moment that we sat down The food was good & there was PLENTY of lobster in my lobbyroll but still think that $60 is a ridiculous price to not state before ordering it. The washroom downstairs is a little bit outdated, and it’s a single gender neutral washroom so I can be lined up sometimes

Beautiful oysters fresh from local areas bring true compliment to the seafood dishes offered. We sampled several dishes and each was well balanced and beautifully presented. The small dinning space is comfortable and extremely clean. Overall our waiter was knowledgeable and engaging. Would highly recommend - but note it’s rather easy to spend over $100 a person.

Food is fresh and delicious, but overpriced for the amount of food that you're actually getting. Totally understand that seafood is expensive, but it's frustrating to spend nearly $100pp and still not be entirely full after the meal. Waitress/bartender was really nice and accommodating. Host/sit down process is abysmally bad though. They have a waiter pulling double duty as host, which means you could be waiting 15-20 minutes during peak time even if you have a reservation. Please hire more people. You could tell how understaffed the restaurant was. Atmosphere is lively, but can be quite cramped depending on how sensitive you are with your personal space.

We did a reservation. The place is nice inside, however what I liked the most are the tables outside and I was able to come with my puppy. We ordered oysters, pulp and beet salad. All was just delicious! Oysters extremely fresh and the pulp had an unique taste. You will feel welcomed and very well served by your waitress. They are very kind, fun and provide high service. I regret that they do not have coffee nor dessert. Food was a great experience but I just like the whole package. 100% recommended.

Perfect date night meal with my husband. Ordered the Gloucester platter to start and the Char as our main dish. The platter was giant-oysters and shrimp were delicious. The lobster, Scallop cerviche and crab salad were amazing and served in giant portions. The char with leeks and pistachio sauce was excellent. Great drinks too. Service was perfect and everyone was super attentive. Will definitely be back to try more options on the menu. Thanks Select Oyster Bar!

Perfect! One of the best meals and service we have had in a long time. We were seated at the bar and the girls were amazing, took extremely good care of us. The food was phenomenal!!! The drinks were great. Highly recommend the daily specials because I have a feeling they are always out of this world. What we ordered was! Also, on the main menu we started with basic shrimp cocktail but even that was outstanding. Octopuse starter was really good too. I believe it was featured in Food and Wine. Everything about our experience was enjoyable...from the smiling shucker, to the hostess who gave us recommendation on our walk back to the hotel. Select is worth making a priority.

One of my favorite spots in Boston, period. Wine, oysters, fish! If you're looking for a true neighborhood restuarnt in the BackBay -- Select Oyster Bar is just that place.

Believe it of not, I hadn't heard about Select before I picked it for a pre-Gaga-concert dinner. It had good reviews and my husband and I were in the mood for oysters. We were Blown. Away. And I'm a Boston girl who is very used to great seafood. The maitresse d' put us on the corner of the bar, after reading my note on the reservation saying we would be happy to sit at the bar (figuring they might be slammed with Saturday diners/concert goers), and told us that she would keep a note with my name that we liked the bar, which is perfect for us. Our bartender/server was great. Professional, courteous and just the right amount of chatty/solicitous. And the food was GREAT. We ordered the Gloucester seafood platter to split, along with an extra half dozen oysters. Truth is we could have left off the extra oysters and still had trouble finishing the platter. It consisted of 6 oysters, scallop ceviche, crab/avocado salad and shelled lobster. There was so much food, we weren't able to finish all of it, though we made a good effort. The atmosphere was lively, but we were able to hold a conversation without straining. There are tables and outdoor seating. Next time we go back, if the weather is good, we'll try to secure an outdoor table. I definitely recommend Select for great seafood. As I say, I'm a native Boston gal, and I tend to go to places that are outdoors and clam shacks, but I would come back to Select in a heartbeat.

A great place for a special treat lunch. And fabulous service from Andrew.

It says "walk ins welcome" but that is clearly not the case. We walked in for wine (which was recommended by our friends) and would have ordered food but we didn't get the chance because we were turned away since we could not guarantee we would pay a big bill! The woman at the door said she didn't have room (the entire place was about 50% full) on a Saturday night for people who wanted wine and "just an oyster." Extremely insulting, and who knows what we would have ordered! We have never been there and do not know how it works! Terrible.

The wine and oysters are fabulous. The bay scallop ceviche is the best ceviche I've ever had. I should have ordered another for my main meal. The lobster salad is terrible. It must be frozen lobster. This was shocking being in Boston. My friends had the swordfish and the Arctic char- both were amazing. There is no dessert. They treated my friend well for her birthday.

Had the Octopus. Was the best I have ever had. The atmosphere was very upscale and classy. I was extremely impressed. Bravo.
