Review Sy Thai Restaurant - Birmingham

My daughter ordered me some food from this place a few months ago. She knows I am particular about restaurants, especially since I am a caterer. The take out food was amazing... We went there a few days later to dine in. The clientele appeared to be enjoying their food, the setting was kind of small and personable, the atmosphere seemed warm and inviting and the hostess and waitress was friendly and very helpful. She seated us where we wanted to eat. I wanted the sunshine, my daughter preferred to pull the shade for less sunlight. I ordered the exact meal my daughter bought a few days earlier... It was the same quality and quantity... It was clear to me the chef takes pride the food... The place was clean, the windows were clean, the silverware were sparkling clean and judging from the food on other people plates, the serve a nice variety of great food... I plan to return there.

The service here was superior!! We were able to dine in and enjoy a great meal together. The food portions were great for the price. The service was quick, the waiter was extremely attentive and was more than willing to help with my families questions and allergy warnings. He even checked the name of a song on the radio for my wife lol. The restaurant is clean and seems to be taking the proper measures to help not spread Covid. This place is amazing!

I ordered the Yum Neua Salad, vegetable curry, and crab cheese. The salad was the most awful tasting salad I have ever tried. I had to throw it out after a couple bites. The curry was slightly less than average in terms of flavor, seemed a little watery. The portion size is quite small for the price. I ordered delivery and they forgot the crab cheese and I had to go out of my way to get it. Did not even receive an apology. I told them the salad was not good and that I had to throw it out and received no apology for that as well. When I had to pick up the crab cheese, I got hot and sour soup which was the best thing on the order. I do not expect to order from this restaurant in the future. In summary, terrible customer service and there is much better Thai food in the area!

Outstanding Thai food (according to my standards as a white woman of European ancestry). Great vegan options. Good spice level variations too. This place is a staple for us.

Food is typically good and cheap, but the service is terrible. As soon as the carryout line starts to accumulate during lunch rush, the manager, Sylvie, ducks into the back and disappears for 40 minutes at a time. From what I can tell over my past few visits, there is one waitress that works there and has trouble keeping up with the rush as well. I understand there's a labor shortage, but this restaurant needs to raise their wages and get more people on staff.

I hate to write this review, because Sy Thai Cafe has been the go to Thai restaurant in Birmingham area. That has not been the case recently. The last few orders have been lacking in taste. The Pad Thai was bland and very little chicken. The picture of Sesame Chicken looks delicious on their menu, but in actuality it was greasy fried breaded chicken with very little vegetables that tasted bad.

I ordered three appetizers and two curries. The three appetizers were the chicken wings, satay and lettuce wraps. The satay was excellent, chicken wings were tasty but the portion for the price was disappointing and the lettuce wraps were beyond disappointing. I got the filling for the wraps in a box which tasted like pure salt and the lettuce was a 1/4 piece of an iceberg lettuce which was more of a wedge that broke into 1 inch pieces of lettuce instead of wraps….they should have called it a salad and not ‘wraps’. The two curries were ok and had like five small pieces of chicken/beef and a whole of vegetables…not worth the value! Overall would probably not recommend this place except if you wanted chicken satay.

Love this place's food! The restaurant is a great place to relax and meet different people. The only thing I would say is that they are pretty short staffed, and so the food takes a while to come out sometimes.
