Review Rugby Grille - Birmingham

My wife and I went to the Rugby Grille during Birmingham restaurant week. We had the salmon special and it was cooked perfectly. The restaurant has an extensive drink list with prices that are definitely on the high side. Service was impeccable as you would expect at a premium price restaurant.

I took my wife for her birthday. We really liked it. Service was excellent. Food was delicious. I wish it was a bit bigger, though. We found the tables a big too close together

Really 4.3 Stars. My boyfriend and I went here for Valentines Day. I am glad we went. I was hesitant to come here because of the pictures. The pictures do not do the restaurant justice. It’s much more attractive in person. The inside is very nice. The service is exceptional. I’ve been to five star restaurants that fall short of the service this restaurant provided. There were staff members everywhere working. Our waiter was very kind and respectful. He was prompt, swift, attentive and very patient. My cocktail was exceptional and the steak was also pretty good as well. My latte was also decent. I did appreciate that we had no issues with our reservation and that they called us promptly when I dropped my bracelet. I have a couple minor requests for the future. We both ordered our steaks medium but they came mostly medium rare with some parts rare. It was juicy and tasty but my boyfriend did skip eating some of it for that reason. They did ask us if everything was alright and we said it was. We didn’t ask them to put it back on because it’s never the same when they recook it. Even though I wish it was less pink, the steak was tasty and flavorful and the plate presentation was wonderful as well. The cut of steak it’s self also seemed to be of high quality. To be fair the meal was very good but it had the capability of being a five star meal. The dessert we had was very good and it was different which I appreciated because desserts these days seem to be flat and bland or over done. I personally also would have chosen different music to fit the theme but that could be a personal preference. All in all it was a beautiful night and we will definitely be coming back again. We are hoping to stay at the hotel next time. :)

The customer service here was very disappointing. As a customer, I was more understanding and considerate than they were toward me. The restaurant was empty but yet the service was slow. It felt like everyone had a bad day. I understand that happens sometimes but it was the whole team; apart from the lovely host. I did speak to a few servers in hopes of making their day better but was unsuccessful. As a customer they made my party feel like we should just shut up and just be thankful. I’ve experienced a plethora of fine dining in my life but the customer service they showed us wasn’t fine, it was unfortunately subpar. I see potential in the restaurant and this review is to sincerely show an opportunity where they can improve. However, I’m sadly confident that they will only respond with the combativeness that they continuously showed us that night.

If you are seeking to be transported back to the late 80s/early 90s, the decor and overall mid-level manager’s office ambiance might appeal to you. The enclosed dining room delivers a conference center vibe, the tables outside the room are essentially the lobby hallway with a great amount of traffic. Seating on the outdoor patio - had it been open - would have been preferred. What was meant to be a special celebration was marred by subpar service, a cold cappuccino was served and, although there were many staff, slow refills on coffee (had to be requested twice), french omelette did not deliver - was hard and thick - but the hollandaise sauce on the Benedict was lovely. Absolutely not worth the price paid and would not return or recommend for Sunday breakfast/brunch.

A beautiful and classy restaurant! And the staff were super nice. Went in for brunch, had the quiche - it was delicious! Great spot for meeting business partners and friends.

The cleanliness to me is not Forbes standards. Expensive restaurant for decent food but in my own opinion not worth the money given more fancy eggs and hash browns. Worked there and I overworked not disgruntled just freedom of speech amendment.... not pay for the service from their managers who came all from the same place and are a click. It's not fair to the others who are trying to work as a team. I would find another place to eat like Parc in Detroit or 222 Merrill because the food is the same and more fun.. and prepared in just the same fashion. I eat at high end restaurants all the time My end I would go to park in Detroit
