Review The Abbey - Birmingham

Lovely place with nice people. Not a place to stop if you're in a hurry, but definitely if you want a nice drink and lunch and have the time. I had the Summer Chai and Muffuletta sandwich. Both were delicious.

Charming coffe shop next to the Beloved church. They have a great selection of coffee styles, some breakfast sandwiches, and pastries. The eclectic furniture and decor reminded me of Central Perk from Friends, or just about any coffee shop in the 90s. The place is very inviting and welcomes everyone. For an extra $2 you can make sure the cafe is able to provide a simple meal to a needy patron. You can't get more welcoming than that!

Nice and quiet place to relax. Not a fan of vegetables but their Mediterranean veggie sandwich is amazing and my go to here. They have been greatly improving their dessert game. Always a variety. I also like the fact they feed the homeless community.

Hyper local, fresh food, good space for meetings and community building.

I love the Abbey and all that they do for the community. I go at least 3 times a week on the way to work and am always greeted with a smiling face. Their coffee taste better and is much cheaper than other coffee houses in town and when you drink it you feel like you have done something good to help out. Be sure to ask them about the sharing a meal program!

Awesome little spot, non-pretentious, church run, and supports great causes. House made syrups makes coffee drinks above average. Love the wide array of Piper & Leaf teas - it's my go to!

Great cappuccino, all sorts of yummy sweets, and friendly people! A perfect place to meet a friend or get some work done while you enjoy a good cup of coffee..... and proceeds benefit a wonderful cause too!

1. The coffee is great. I got the medium roast. In a neighborhood of great coffee, this cup stands out as, in a good way, mild-tasting (but not weak.) However 2. I ordered a toasted bagel with cream cheese to-go and was given the most miserly amount of cream cheese I have ever seen rationed for an entire bagel. Even one pre-packaged Philadelphia with peel away top would have been more. This wasn’t enough to paint one of the two toasted surfaces with a knife scraped film, much less coat both surfaces with a standard breakfast-restaurant-bagel cream cheese layer. So there’s that 🙄

The coffee is the best. The service is the best. The atmosphere is the best. I will be returning and hope to take friends to visit. Grammy

I absolutely love The Abbey! From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with open arms. The Eucharist on Sunday is very communal yet still reverent. Compline on Wednesday night is a breath of fresh air during the week. I am new to the Episcopal Church and The Abbey has made a huge difference in my transition. The coffee and pastries are a delight as well!

You simply must try the breakfast sandwich! I'm partial to having it on the everything bagel. You can order yours however you like. They will make it to your taste and you will be very pleased with the way you started your day! :)

Glad to bring the Happy Hour Hootenanny to the Abbey on the second Thursday of each month from 4 to 7pm. Guest singers and musicians always welcome. The Abbey is a perfect setting for our live music.

One of the best cold brew coffees I’ve had. Great service.

sweet spot! Great coffee and tasty food. Lovely atmosphere and sense of itself as part of the community.

The best pimento cheese I've ever tasted and the friendliest employees and volunteers. Support this Mission when you can.

Great atmosphere and even greater people. Front and and back outdoor seating are great for working while getting fresh air! My absolute go-to spot for writing, reading, and composing presentations. Additionally, they have so many interesting events (Discoveries in the Making talks) and even local artists during special times of the year (i.e. professional makeup artists during Dia de los Meurtos so you can get coffee and celebrate before hitting the Avondale scene!)

Beg, beg! For the Lavender Whip cookie!! Girl Scouts need this!!

Fabulous coffee, paninis, and more! My faves are pimento cheese with bacon jam, apple pie smoothie, and ANY tea by Piper and Leaf! If you are in need of a place to rest your weary head or you are in need of some Camp McDowell music, familiar faces, and beautiful liturgy and holy conversation than this is the place for you!
