Rockin’ Dave’s Bistro & Backstage Lounge

Once again I stumble upon a Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives establishment. It was by accident and it truly was a happier one than I expected. I got the standard two egg special and the menu was much deeper than my choice. The cashier asked where I got my shirt that says ‘Just put a thumb in it’ and I showed him the sleeve with the logo. Just as this was happening, a guy that looked a lot like the logo who I assume was Rockin’ Dave shouted out ‘well that’s ‘Kentucky Ballistics’ shirt. The cashier seemed puzzled and out of the loop but I’m sure he’s researched it by now. This place has a great lounge in the rear space but I chose to sit out in the parking lot patio where two youngsters were jamming some saxophone tunes. They said they show up every 2nd and 4th Sundays, I believe. From Nat King Cole’s ‘Unforgettable’ to ‘Girl from ‘Ipanema’, they will pull off some smooth jazz. Thanks for the soul food and music guys. This place truly Rocked!

The Good- First visit. This place has a surprise waiting for you. Parking lot small, and up front looks only okay Wasn't really sure about it until an employee greeted us so warmly! Then we went to the hidden lounge, and wow, nice wood, great tables and bar, amazing view. The Bad- Second Visit. Rude, unsanitary (no hand washing when returning from parking lot, bare hands on food) employee up front. Inedible breakfast (but no one bothered to check, so I had to pick up my plate, go through the parking lot) to be reluctantly refunded for that portion. Mealy potatoes, bacon that was burned beyond eatability several days ago I'd guess and a rubber egg. But the guy had already snatched my plate before I could even explain the issues.., and cut my sentence off ...and The Tip- You've got (from my experience) a 50/50 shot at very good food vs. inedible - which would be fine, restaurants have off days. But the rudeness makes this place- which was on its way to becoming a regular stop for us - a hard pass. Edit: The bagels are awesome though

I am a Bend local and am embarrassed to say this was my first time here! This will now be a staple in our dining. I’ve been missing out. Such good food and Dave makes a point to greet everyone. Makes all his meats and items fresh in house. I love that they call your favorite band name to receive your order instead of a number. We also were able to order lunch and breakfast at the same time! Love this place
