We had a Birthday celebration for my husband here last week. The ambiance was amazing. The food was amazing. Customer service is amazing! Check it out if you’re in the Beachwood / Shaker area. You won’t be disappointed!!

Giovanni’s has a wonderful menu and excellent service. One of the best, if not the best, restaurant in its category in the Cleveland area.

Wonderful anytime I go, whether for light business lunch, casual dinner in the bar, or a full meal in the main room. Excellent food and service. Menu is extensive, imaginative, and full of classics and innovative unique dishes that you haven't seen anywhere else. A top choice for any occasion!!

Went for dinner for first time after hearing rave reviews. Ambiance great although hidden inside office building with no sign outside. Service very attentive and seafood was fresh and bread tasty. However food was not good. We had large party and most of us did not finish our dinner. We ordered endive salad which was over powered by vinegrette, fish dishes and seafood pasta, Priced very high-average dish was $45 for entree so left feeling like dinner was not worth it. Cook at home and get a good recipe online. This is not traditional italian cuisine.

A nice place that is past its prime. Fun for an occasional visit.

Went for lunch …very nice atmosphere but food was terrible. I ordered the gourmet hamburger requested no cheese, cheese was on the hamburger had a side order of french fries enormous portion was placed on my plate they were burnt warm to touch just a terrible terrible presentation. Second time I have gone for lunch will not be returning did not write a review after the first time and was so disappointed thought I would give it another try.

Overpriced for the quality of the meal. Shrimp was tough and overcooked. Tasted like rubber. They don’t serve any chicken on weekends, so no chicken parm or chicken Alfredo. Slim pickings for someone with a seafood allergy. Will not return. Gave 1 star only for the waiter he was nice.

Too oily, too salty, too expensive.

This place has come and gone. What was once a prized restaurant in Cleveland is now a sorry place hanging onto its past and eventual demise. I was there with my family and a bunch of 80-year-olds. The waitress was very friendly and customer service oriented. The food came promptly and the appetizers were decent. When the pastas came they were so heavily salted and oily that I could barely even eat them. In addition to the excessive salt, a pool of at least a quarter cup of oil was at the bottom of my bowl. When I mentioned that to the waitress she said that the chef would be right over to discuss it with me. Then there was sort of a hubbub going on with the staff and the chef never came over. The waitress came back and asked "didn't he come talk to you" to which I said "no." Then she left again and came back and told me that she took the most offensive pasta off my bill. It seems that if you're not an old family or someone well-known in Cleveland, they treat you like you are not worth the bother. They have no reason to do so since their quality is now sub subpar. The food used to be good enough to offset the office building atmosphere. No longer. Good riddance. Too many other excellent restaurants in Cleveland. Very disappointing.

Best in Cleveland... Why is no one paying attention?!. Why do most people think this is some old people, over priced haunt? Giovanni's is an evolving masterpiece and any city should be proud to have it. But no, not Cleveland, who typically only focuses on a restaurant if the chef has some sort of in on some television network. I've spent more at Cleveland's so called culinary gems and gotten half the service and a fraction of the culinary talent on the plate. Shame on Cleveland Magazine, the local food editors and the local media for their lack of coverage of this culinary cornerstone of Cleveland. Boohoo, it's not on East 4th or in some hipster location, so what?! It's sad that the extremely talented Chef Zach Ladner and Alyssa Ladner, the husband and wife duo, get no recognition. I'm not related to anyone involved at Giovanni's or have any investment in it, I'm just annoyed with the under appreciation they get. The so called foodies need to get over the fact that the restaurant keeps some of its key items it's been known for for years and recognize the amazing ever changing menu and tasting menus the chef offers. Grow up, make a reservation and appreciate the talent.

What a JOKE for the service industry!. This place is such a joke! The employees who answer the phones are clueless and can't answer simple questions. The managers have no power to make a command decision without worrying it might be wrong and the owner is a LIAR! We have been in contact with several staff members and have been lied to, hung up on, and called liars by the staff. They screwed up our reservations and refuse to take the blame. I wouldn't frequent this establishment if you paid me! You should be embarrassed to be a part of the service industry! Get some class and learn how to treat customers with respect!

Ristorante Giovanni's - AMAZING. Giovanni's Ristorante. A traditional Italian name. Unassuming. Nothing jumps out at you at first. Even the location of the restaurant is located in the lobby of a rather unassuming office building. But oh how much of a difference it is once you step behind those beautiful double wooden doors of Giovanni's Ristorante. To be quiet honest; its wall of honors next to the main doors should have been an indication of the treat were about to have; with the four diamond awards and plaques hanging proudly on the wall. But to put it simply, when I walked through those double doors, I was transported to a whole new world. A wonderful world of gastronomic delight and bliss.

Now Giovanni's is no regular dining experience - the price range is above what me and my friends would normally be able to afford; but it was a special occasion and me and my closest friend had been saving for this meal. And boy were we not disappointed one bit.

I'll begin with the service and atmosphere. The moment we walked in, I felt as though I was transported to a different world entirely. The decor was one of sophistication and class. Wood work must have cost them a fortune; and the bottles of wine lining the dining room was a nice touch. Tables were spaced far enough that you were in a comfortable distance away from everyone but not enough to make you feel as though you were on an island on your own. The service was TREMENDOUS. Servers were very friendly, and knowledgeable. Always there when you needed them; but not intruding. And well trained. VERY well trained. Something you would expect from a fine dining establishment like Giovanni's. My experience at a nice restaurant is always more enjoyable when the service doesn't disappoint; and no disappointment here. However, the more importantly issue...what about the food?

Oh the food. It was FANTASTIC. Lets begin:

I normally do not think too much about the bread. In fact there are times when I ignore the bread entirely. But the moment we sat down; the runners came out with a basket of the most freshest smelling bread; as if it JUST came out of the oven. They placed them on our bread plates and I couldn't ignore the fact the bread itself was a cross between a dinner roll and a croissant. So, I rip a piece off from the roll and was pleasantly, no cross that, was ridiculously surprised. The bread was outstanding. Buttery and flaky like a croissant, with a nice roll hybrid top and some herbs baked into the top portion. Needless to say, I had a few pieces of bread that evening.

I started off with the beef carppaccio, now I've had my fair share of carppaccio, but I've never really enjoyed one to the extent where I felt "wowed" by the dish. But I heard great ravings about Giovanni's, and I decided I'd give it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised. Now I didn't get an epiphany moment felt as though I could fill up just eating this appetizer, but it was good. The mustard cream had a good tang too it, but wasn't overpowering which allowed me to still taste the subtly and flavors of the beef. This is important as I've been turned off by other establishments where their dressing completely overpowers their beef carpaccio, and doesn't allow the beef to shine. Here, the beef is the main player; and the mustard dressing and capers are supporters. I liked it - quiet well in fact, and was content with my choice; but this dish pales in comparison to the rest of the meal (just because of the sheer perfectness of the other dishes).

A number of different salads were offered with the traditional ceaser's salad, and heirloom tomato salads, but I chose a spinach salad as I was intrigued with the crusted goat cheese that was mentioned in the menu. I know, I know, pretty weird way to choose a salad, but hey, everything looked good and I needed to make a decision - besides I wanted something lighter than a ceaser's but not a huge fan of having too many tomatos. Boy was I glad I chose my salad - and for my so called stupid reason. The fried goat cheese ball? It was AMAZING. The salad had fresh baby spinach; a good amount coated with a warm vinagrette; not overpowering; but very well done. I wouldn't say it was anything crazy. But then I cut into that fried goat cheese ball. It was outstanding; strong intense flavor and fried; but not oily. When I broke it up and mixed it in with the rest of the salad, it really took it up a notch. The little crunchiness the fried component gave it a special textural component whereas the intense goat cheese flavor really enhanced the vinaigrette dressing without making it too heavy.

For my pasta dish, I ordered the penne carbonara. My description of it? It was blissful. After my first bite, no, my second or third bite (because I couldn't stop at my first) I felt as if I was in heaven. It was absolutely delicious. Firstly, the pasta dish was heated tableside by our server. I mean who does that now a days, but I truly appreciated this "old school" hospitality and service. The pasta was cooked to perfection; tender with a slight chew to its body. And the sauce, oh how good the sauce was. Creamy, but not overpowering; with the saltiness and of the pancetta coming through and coating each and every one of the penne pasta. I felt even though it was a very creamy dish; it maintained a very clean and not overly heavy feeling I sometimes get from carbonaras I've eaten from other place. It was truly a masterpiece. I would definitely recommend getting this dish. The portion was not small either, but I had no trouble finishing the dish as it was just too good not to.

By the time dessert rolled by, I was getting pretty full. I guess it didn't help that I loved the bread so much I had three servings of their bread throughout the entire service. It was really good bread!!! But despite starting to feel full, I opted to order dessert. The meal was so good so far that I didn't want to miss out on anything. Being in a traditional Italian restaurant; they offered the traditional desserts, gelatos, cakes, tiramisu; and in hindsight; I really should have opted for a lighter option, but I really wanted to try their tiramisu. (You only live once right? and I had scheduled a LONG RUN the next morning anyways - excessive "carb load" some may say?) The tiramisu was good. It wasn't something I would write home about, but it was good. Light and not too heavy, but still flavorful enough - it was simply a good piece of tiramisu.

Overall, I had an amazing experience. The food was tremendous. Truly one of the best dining experiences I've had in Cleveland. Coupled with the great service and the outstanding atmosphere; it'll definately remain one of my top choices for fine dining and I highly recommend giving it a shot when one of those special occasions come up.

Overall: 4.75 out of 5 stars.

Best in Ohio. We had our first anniversary here. We did the First seating menu which included 3 courses for 25 dollars. it was the best we have had in Cleveland. First we had wagyu beef and duck prosciutto which was rich yet fatty and savory, followed by a hearty perfectly done potato soup filled with bacon. the ceasar salad was what it should be. for mains the pork milanese was filled with a rich juice under a crispy skin while my steak had a deep mustard sauce dispered within the meat, the bone marrow was buttery, the casata cake was spongey and light and perfect while the peach gelato was simply creamy rich and amazing. everything was high quality, and thought the dishes were not original they were made to perfect as it should be. There is a reason it 4 diamond stars. easily the best food in ohio. the owener even made me home made hot chocolate out of fresh melted chocolate, and the complimentary sweet garlicy bread was plentiful,

Giovanni’s Ristorante is upscale Italian, located in the lobby of an nondescript office building in Beachwood. While first impressions may not be much, walking through the carved double doors reveals something quite different. We went for lunch, when it’s a little more laid back, but ordinary dinner dress is jackets, so it’s definitely on the fancier side. They recently underwent a renovation, so the dining room was crisp and clean. Don’t bring your younger kids (unless they’re extraordinarily well-behaved and can sit still and quietly for extended periods of time, in which case I’d like to know how you do it).
