Went to celebrate birthdays with another couple. Food was excellent. Service during the meal was pretty good. Each couple split their own checks and paid with credit card. Once the server dropped off the credit card slips, she disappeared. The first thing I noticed was my credit card was with the other receipt, and vice-versa. No big deal, it happens. I filled out my slip, added on a tip and signed. It was then that I noticed my friend’s name at the bottom of the receipt. We double checked his receipt and our server had charged both meals to his credit card. We waited ~ 10 minutes for her to return, but never did. I was finally able to flag her down to get her attention to fix the problem. Just because you dropped off payment doesn’t mean you can ignore your table.

We made a happy and delicious discovery at Kitchen Proper after a 45 minute wait at another local restaurant sent us looking for something local, and quick. Even though we didn't have a reservation, we were seated quickly by the smiling and friendly hostess. They said the menu changes to utilize local products and we found wonderful, creative meals listed. First off, this is locally owned by a husband and wife team who were there that night cooking, serving and greeting customers. Secondly, EVERYTHING that we ordered was delicious, with large portions and reasonable prices. I love food, I love to cook and I'm hard to impress when it comes to restaurants. I. WAS. IMPRESSED. WITH. EVERYTHING. WE. ATE! I can't wait to visit Kitchen Proper again on my next visit to Battle Creek.

Lovely restaurant! We made reservations (would recommend, they were very busy) and we were seated in the back. Not a great seat, next to the restroom in the back with nothing to look at but a very narrow aisle so would recommend you ask to be put in the main area if at all possible instead of sequestered in the back. But given how busy they were, we figured any seat was better than none! The waitresses were a bit scattered (took a few minutes for someone to great us at the door, another few minutes for them to figure out where to seat us, but overall their attitude was kind and attentive once we had a seat). The whitefish dip was fantastic (the lovely theatrics of revealing it and releasing the smoke was appreciated) and our meals were truly delicious!! Drinks were decent, and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert was a great way to end our dinner. I don't travel to the area much, but am definitely planning to come again with guests in the future!!

First time, not the last time. Had a duck n pasta dish (sorry, temporary menu item and don't recall exactly) but it was unbelievable! I'd get it again for sure. Had a bowl of Cream of Mushroom soup; very good BUT stick with a cup of it! With the dinner, I was literally too full. I should have taken some home perhaps. Good cocktails. Great first visit!

Very fine dining befitting its reputation and price. My wife has celiac disease and they were able to accommodate nearly anything to be gluten free. Host and server were wonderful. All food was delicious. Plan to spend at least $50 a person.

OMG scallops melted in my mouth with the best seasoning. The pumpkin risotto had so many delicious mushrooms and fall flavor I want it in my mouth everyday!! If you can still eat a dessert you will only regret not being able to meet more of it with the sticky toffee pudding...drool

this place made my first anniversary amazing! the server was super attentive, detailed in the menu descriptions, and friendly. I enjoyed my malbec, and the chicken Marsala was the best I’ve ever had. it may also be the best pasta dish I have eaten out. I loved everything about this place and can’t wait to come back.

The wait staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Good martinis. Excellent selection of unique dishes to choose from. We had the crispy portobello fries, and they were delightful! (The only thing I can say about the fries is that the lemon wedge should be cut and placed on the rim of the sauce.) The pork belly salad wedge was such a surprise, not only for the fact that it was offered but for the fact that the pork belly was actually cooked correctly. This is something I have not found cooked correctly at any restaurant I personally have been to yet. The pork tenderloin main entree was almost infused with apple. The Duck was perfectly cooked, and can be cooked to request! If you aren't sure, go for medium well. Medium allows for some medium rare along the split which is actually a perfect cook. The dessert was a berry cheesecake brulee, and was delicious. The presentation of all items ordered was what I expect, and I hold a high standard! Battle Creek has a new gem and it's name is Kitchen Proper!

A great restaurant offering seasonal dishes sourcing quality local ingredients. Cream of mushroom soup was fantastic as was my chicken marsala entree. Had a good selection of wines and bottle beer. Menu was smaller but had a wide variation. Alexis our server did a great job answering questions and offering options. Had a slight issue with an outdated wine list, she came back with a similar wine as a sample due to my original order being unavailable. I marked down the atmosphere one star due to the lights in the entire restaurant frequently changing brightness. The kitchen is in clear view of the dining area, I thought it was a neat concept not often seen in smaller venues. Can't wait to go back again soon.

Carbonara and duck breast entrees were perfect. Bone marrow starter was different but perfect. Drinks were good and dessert was amazing. Kitchen Proper really made our 2nd anniversary a memorable one. We'll be back more often and every year after 😁

Brunch on Sundays! I’m so so glad that KP just added a Sunday brunch. What a great addition for downtown Battle Creek. They did a wonderful job with our group of 8. We loved the Portuguese eggs, Eggs Benedict, Bananas Foster pancakes (insane—house made whipped cream!), latkes, pork belly, and brunch drinks. Lots of gluten free options. Definitely call ahead to reserve—all the tables were full.

We had the most amazing evening tonight. We were able to sit on the patio at a beautiful fireplace table. There were also 2 big heaters behind us. Erin and Trish were amazing at taking care of us. Very attentive. The Wagyu Filet, taters, and asparagus were mind blowing. All perfectly prepared. The 2 goat cheese dips were to die for. Then there was the brownie pretzel dessert with salted caramel gelato. Holy wah....the most amazing thing Eeeeeeverrrr! Tonight was my Birthday, Erin got a candle and sang for me. It was such a perfect evening. Thank you, Kitchen Proper!
