Review Shucks On The Levee - Baton Rouge

The menu has changed drastically. We went there around 1 on Saturday, March 26, 2016. The menu mainly consists of fried or grilled seafood and chicken. We order a half basket or catfish, and a half basket of shrimp. None of the food was hot including the French fries, they were lukewarm. Seems as though the food was previously fried and just sitting under the hot lamp waiting for someone to order. Very disappointed.

I called in an order. Got there to find out what I ordered they didn't have which was a ceaser salad. They rest of the food was not good. The Service was piss poor. I don't know what changed with this place but I don't remember it being like that. They also need to change the menu back to how it was because it sucks now.

I had the burger, asked for medium rare and was served the most over done, bland piece of card board I have ever paid 10 bucks for. The service was very uninformed and slow and they brought me the sides.

The food was horrible. It was seasoned way too much couldn't even eat it. It took forever to get our food. The employees were arguing with eachother and very unprofessional. The price was outragous because the food sucked. Would not recommend.

I ordered oysters and was informed they were out... note to business owner: Oyster themed restaurants should not run out of their theme menu items

Unfortunate food and minimum wage type service..the really bad thing is this place use to be a really good seafood restaurant now its just an overpriced Captain D's

Tourist trap. From the previous pictures of the food they used to have good food but have now settled on deep frying everything. My "Cajan Mary" was cocktail sauce with vodka, I would have ordered a beer but all the taps were out.

If you can go somewhere else, go! This place is only for drunken tourists and gamblers.

Pleasant surprise! Worth trying. March 8, 2014 - Good food, good service and lots of food!

We are staying at the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino Hotel and did some online research of the Shucks on the Levee restaurant. Most of the reviews we read were not good and some were down right bad. Bad service, bad food, skimpy portions, etc. However, we decided to give them a chance so we headed over for dinner. When we got there, the main part of the restaurant was full and the hostess was taking names for seating as soon as something came available. While standing there, a gentleman we assumed was the manager approached and offered to seat us in a back room that holds about 35 patrons and has a small bar. We accepted and were seated immediately. Withing 5 minutes, our server, Teirainey, was taking our drink and food order. We ordered the Crab cakes appetizer, Shrimp Basket and the "Kitchen Sink" Basket (catfish fillet, fried crawfish, fried shrimp, crab cake, hush puppies and onion rings). Teirainey was working over and the area we were seated in was not her regular station but she was constantly checking on us along with several of the other servers. Drinks were at our table almost immediately and shortly after our baskets showed up. Ahh, but the first mistake of the night - our appetizer was missing. We told our server and it seems the kitchen had forgotten the appetizer. Not to worry, fresh crab cakes were being prepared and shortly after, they were delivered to the table piping hot by one of the chefs with his apologies. Overall the food was freshly cooked and very tasty with just the right amount of spice. The only disappointment was that the tartar sauce was the Sysco prepacked tubs instead of a house prepared sauce. Considering the quality of the seafood, I think a good in-house recipe for tartar sauce is in order rather than a mass-produced (but still adequate) tartar sauce.
The amount of food served was so much that we had to ask for a take-out box rather than waste it. So the size of the portions does not seem to be a problem any more and the service was definitely some of the best I have experienced in a long while. Teirainey was consistently checking on us and even as harried as she was, she always was pleasant and on the move. Now for the gentleman we thought was the manager of the restaurant. His name is Steven Rodrigue (?) and he is a manager in the casino and the executive management for the Belle asked him to come over to the restaurant about a week ago to sort out the issues noted in many of the online reviews. He was constantly circulating through out the restaurant and making sure that the staff was hitting their marks. Seems like he has made a difference since our experience was definitely a 5 out of 5!

Food was alright. But the service was TERRIBLE. I wouldn't recommend going here.

As a forty year old Louisiana nativehaving lived in every corner of Louisiana I can honestly say this had been my worse culinary experience in the state. I ordered the seafood lplatter. the only distinguishing edible portion $$$ the onion rings. every thing else yay as though it had been fried in the same grease, rating to be two weeks old. had it any certain taste poisons would have justified the price, however, I came away feeling add though I was raped. I should have been paid to try such nastiness. never again.

After a really poor experience and promises from the management that improvements would be made, we returned several months later. Not only had it NOT improved, the service, food and atmosphere had declined to a point of our not EVER returning. Lip service and " I don't care" attitudes abound. Good luck if you plan to visit.

I ordered the Shrimp Pp-boy and my friend ordered the Oyster po-boy.. They were cooked to perfection and came with onion rings or fries for only $7.00!!!! Plenty of food!! The onion rings were big!!! We went back for breakfast and had 2 eggs, 2 pieces of toast and a nice heaping of cubed fried potatoes for $3.00!! The place was neat and clean and right in the Mississippi River!! The food was fresh and the waiters and waitresses were very nice!!!!

Very good ... I had the seafood Alfredo.. to die for. Me and my boyfriend eat here a lot...

Blah. Has the look of a place that would be cool to hang out in, but it isn't. The food was less than satisfactory. Lots of waitstaff standing around looking for stuff to do. Maybe it would be fun to go here when it's busy but it doesn't seem like that probably happens a lot.

Took a chance on trying a different place, didn't check up on any previous reviews or anything, and had no idea what to expect, upon entering the place my expectations were a tad low, Were quickly seated, place seemed clean, the smell was somewhat that of a chinese food place, Atmosphere was decent, Prompt & friendly service,Appetizer we ordered was your average hushpuppies, nothing special, Entree's was the Grilled Chicken Bayou & the Smothered Pork Chops. Our order was ready and served hot in a timely fashion. Let's just say "I'm glad yo Momma wadn't there cuz I'da hadta slap her!!" Our food was THAT good!!

Great! Our service was a bit slow but the food was awesome. Everything we had was great, catfish and shrimp poboy Warning, do not buy the margarita. We had to force them down (they were too high to let sit)

Don't....I repeat, DON'T eat here. No flavor in the food, not cooked correctly, and the service sucked...hope you don't want a drink refill.

This is the worst place I've ever eaten at... Ever! Horrible food, slow service, I was honestly terrified that I would end up with food poising. There are amazing places to eat in Baton Rouge but this place isn't one of them.

No. Just no. The dishes were all dirty. The menu is very limited. The food was terrible. It was over priced. I can't say one good thing about it.

Terrible. I've been here several times and it's always the same result; consistently bad food and service. It's a real shame because the location is right in the heart of downtown and I'm sure unsuspecting tourist think they're walking in to a great Louisiana restaurant and unfortunately they're probably one of the worst restaurants in town. I'd prefer this place closed down rather than remain open and poorly represent the Baton Rouge restaurant community.

Best seafood in baton rouge. I absoulutly love everything about this resturaunt !!!!

food was ready fast but not too fast!

decor is beautiful and the view of the river is magical!

the pieces of shrimp and oyster and such were huge, well portioned entrees. delicious and mouth watering and the smell was amazing.

hot wing appetizers were sooo good, we had citrus because it was too early for anything too hot and they hit the spot.

to top it all off what really made me love this place was the waitress, she was awesome. most places the girls will stand around talking if they see a friend. ours left a convo she was having just to come over to check on us and of course we were doing great. she checked on us and kept the drinks coming and was sooo polite. the nicest waitress ever. we went on the fourth of july and assumed anyone would be having a bad day just to be at work away from feastivities but she acted like she was genuinly pleased to be there. she really made the time here perfect!

i am going this weekend for the second time!!!!!

Something new. I found the restaurant to be quite nice. The view overlooking the river added to the dining experience. I ordered an appetizer of blackened alligator which came on a bed of spinach and a dipping sauce. For my entree, I ordered the oyster and spinach "stew", which was pleasant and I was given the opportunity to request how my oysters were sauteed.

Shucks on the levee? More like sucks on the levee. A friend and I went after class one day. We made up a list of all the problems we had. 1: although we were the only people at te restaurant, we had to wait five minutes to be seated. Even though we saw a group of waiters standingaround talking to each other. 2: I ordered a fried catfish poboy and my friend orderedcatfish acadiana. We also orderedeight bufallo wings as an appetizers. After waiting five minutes our food had already arrived.BEFORE our appetizer. Anyone who knows good seafood will tell you that it is impossible to cook catfish acadianain ten minutes. also the waiter had completely forgtten about our wings until we reminded her 3: my poboy tasted as if it was shoe. And the fries were obviouslyjust thrown into the oven from a bag you buy at the market. But that was nothing compared to my friends catfish acadiana. The fish was absolutely terrible and his twice baked potato had no resemblence of what a potato looks like an was obviously microwaved. 4: finally, the restroom, or lack there of, which I had to visit just after my appetite had been destroyed, lacked little privacy. The place didn't even have a door. Shucks on the levee was more like shits on the levee

I Loved the food. I thought the fried oysters were the best I've ever had. The crab meat, crawfish, and shrimp pasta can't be beat. Lot's of seafood with every bite and the portions are huge. The service sucks but the food was great.

Food was bland, expensive, and cold. I went with a couple of friends for the fourth of July, and the food was bad. It may be that there were a lot of other customers there. Even so, how can you screw up a fried shrimp salad?
Mitchell
The servers have no idea what food is available & what is not. The bussers spray cleaning products on table while patrons are seated. The air conditioning is nonexistent and it's in Louisiana. The servers really don't have a clue. The food is not tasty enough to forgive the wrongs.
