Food and staff were great! This is one of the best places I go to for a vegan meal. The Hippie Garden sandwich is the absolute best! I had a tomato and squash soup mixed together (recommended by one of the staff)...DELICIOUS!!!
Be sure to try this place out.

One of my favorite places to eat in Baton Rouge. The food is always tasty and delicious. I enjoy the spacious seating, quality and consistency of the food and taste, and of course all of the healthy options.

The food was good. It's great to have vegan options. We did have a few issues with things in our water carafe, but the staff replaced it both times.

The food was soooo delicious! They really know how to season food here! This wasn't rabbit food-- the mushroom soup could have been mistaken for seafood gumbo, and I'm a native Louisianian! The atmosphere is spacious, cool and cozy, with local art on the walls and lots of very happy plants. They are extremely accommodating of allergies, and can make anything besides paninis gluten-free. They also have several scrumptious desserts for sale to go, which along with the soup of the day are always vegan.
But most importantly, it tastes great! This place is a can't-miss destination for vegans.

Cute and spacious place with a wonderful selection of unique menu items. I had the Thai salad and a mimosa, both were tasty. The service is delightful and the atmosphere is relaxing.

Wonderful food! I had the cleanse salad and it was a great portion size and made me feel refreshed! Delicious corn chowder soup - so happy this place exists :) I 100% recommend!

Excellent quality and selection at around $15 for lunch. Multiple vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options. Great rotating soup selection. I’ve never had a bad meal from MJ’s Cafe!!
Also the bathroom is cool

Visited this place whilst on my trip to Baton Rouge. Customer Service was awesome and food was good. It's very casual and friendly, plus it's clean inside. Wished they opened a little bit later. That's to that young lady at the front with spectacular customer service and never stopped smiling.

Had a delightful lunch at MJ's. Ordered the Louisiana sandwich with spicy shrimp on a grilled French bread - EXCELLENT flavor. Tasty salad included local fresh strawberries and toasted pecan and a strawberry balsamic vinaigrette. We will DEFINITELY be returning!

Will Be Back. Pairing menu items is the way to go. Got the Italian with a side of Tomato Florentine Soup. Really, really good. Moreover, it's "farm to table". I will definitely be back.

SIMPLY THE BEST. Friendly lunch place serving fresh healthy food. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. Thanks Maureen for providing us with this special dinning option.

Love the food and staff.. First let me start with the portion size since that is the ONLY complaint anyone could make. But the reason for the size is the cost of actually getting local organic produce and meats. If you care about what you put in your body and want to support farmers and butchers who also are not trying to poison the food then the cost to portion size is understandable. The 2 for 10.00 deal is enough to fill me up and makes the prices more reasonable. I recommend this place if your looking for unique and healthy meals. The staff is also awesome.

Fantastic lunch spot, great atmosphere!. For a health conscious cafe, serving made from scratch soups and sandwiches, there is simply nothing in Baton Rouge that comes close to what MJ's has to offer.

Consistently exciting food and situated inside a unique location, MJ's has become my go to location to take clients for lunch.

I appreciate that portions are not the typical american "all you can eat" sized, but instead, perfect for anyone who is in tune with a healthy lifestyle.

MJ's is a welcome break in the typical offerings of southern America (meat based and typically unhealthy) and is doing it's part to bring fresh food from the local farmers markets to the table, something I try to do at home, so it's wonderful I have access to it for lunches as well.

There are truly not enough places like this in Baton Rouge and I am so thankful MJ's exists to provide a well needed service.

The Greek Sandwich. If you haven't gone to MJ's to try their Greek Sandwich, you need to seriously reconsider your choices in life.

Over priced and Large really??. Just picked up an order to go on 2 large salads with shrimp added cost $10.50 it was barely a cup of food! Over priced!! yes tasty but not worth it!!!

This wonderful cafe is evolving constantly. Regarding the first comment on vegan options, there is always a tasty and wholesome vegan soup option, as well as several refreshing salads. Recently, the Vegan Deluxe was added to the menu. This sandwich features a succulent black bean salad, fresh guacemole, spinach, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Prepared on whole wheat and grilled lightly with olive oil this sandwich even satisfies self proclaimed carnivores! In response to the "over priced under sized sandwich" comment, for two dollars more than the outrageous $8, you can have any other item on the menu in addition. This includes quiche, salad, or soup; all made from ingredients which are either locally sourced, organic, or both.

Delicious. Great atmosphere. The Curried Carrot Bisque was so flavorful and filling. We also enjoyed The Louisianan, a spicy shrimp sandwich with peppers, onions. tomatoes, and romain on a delicious crusty french roll. The other sandwich we enjoyed was The French; goat cheese with sliced apples and pears, pepper jelly, goat cheese, and arugula on a french roll. Unbelievably delicious. Will definitely be going back to MJ's Cafe...

There are different kinds of restaurants out there - this happens to be one where indgredients are locally sourced and all foods are prepared by the owner of the place. Not everyone enjoys this kind of place for whatever reason. The quality of the food is excellent, the flavors are always top notch.

CLEARING THINGS UP AGAIN. What are y'all smoking? You dont go to MJ's to get full? What in the world are you doing there then? fare well, I think maybe you are hurting the business when you write things like that. I certainly did not pay over $10 to "talk with MJ". OF COURSE YOU GO THERE TO EAT AND GET FULL!! And at this place, unless you're no bigger than a ferret, you will not succeed at being satisfied.
Fare Well
Clearing things up. I also don't know what's wrong with some of these reviews. Seating? The cafe is part of an interior design store--couldn't that reviewer articulate that? The soups and salads are the best part. As for the sandwiches--you don't go to MJ's to get "full" with mighty portions. Have a conversation with MJ and you'll see her style is to sustain, not stuff. She offers what type of bread you prefer, too--the bolillo rolls or Forte Grove sweet potato bread. I really enjoy this quaint-yet-stylish cafe for a light, fresh lunch. And if it's crowded, get it to go--she offers conscience-oriented togo containers.

Love it. I don't know what was wrong with the other reviewers, but this place is great. The food is tasty, almost all local and seasonal! The cheese comes from happy cows! The decor of the place is relaxing and inviting. Mrs. MJ is super nice and very passionate about what she does. I eat here once a week and have never been disappointed. It's worth the price.
We need more places like this in this city of heavy, greasy spoons!

Kids meal. This place needs to reconsider either the cost or the portion size, The "sandwich" is incredibly small. I don't even know where you can order sandwich bread that small. It definitely doesn't amount to enough food to feed a kitten and its $8!!!. It is ridiculously overpriced. I had to go eat again elsewhere.

Not quite satisfying. I was really excited to hear about a new vegetarian joint in Baton Rouge since there's such a dearth of vegetarian variety. However, I was disappointed. The tastiest things on the menu all have fish or cheese and little substance otherwise, so leaving off the cheese for a vegan meal will leave you wanting more.

I'm also a little weirded out by the way the restaurant is setup. The actual dining area is only about a 1/3 of the available floor space - the rest isn't kitchen either. Most of the space is filled with non-dining seating, which seems odd when you're trying to encourage more people come dine there.

...much needed addition to the culinary and restaurant scene in Baton Rouge.

In terms of price, $10 for lunch is not bad. Will we eat here weekly? Probably not.. However, we are definetely going back for more!

MJ’s is a great little lunch spot and is doing special edition dinners every month now. Swing by and ask Maureen about the details of the next dinner and see what’s on tap for lunch during the week. To those of you who haven’t visited yet, I’d describe it as a mainly vegetarian place in a way that’s not blatantly vegetarian. Sure, most of the options are veggie friendly, but I don’t feel like I’m missing any flavor when I bite into one of her dishes. Plus, there is a sandwich that has shrimp, so you don't have to go strictly vegetarian! To put it simply, MJ’s Café is a delight and it is time that you know about it.
