Review Boil & Roux - Baton Rouge

Went here back on 9/17/2021 and I must say the food was pretty good. I loved the lemon pepper wings, granted they did seem a lil over seasoned though. I did half and half with lemon pepper and buffalo, which was also good. The crawfish nachos gets a plus as well. One thing that threw me off was it was kind of coming off as clubish. I'm assuming on the weekends (at a certain time) there's a charge to get into the place. Luckily for us, we manage to avoid that. Idk if we got there before they started charging or the security person just wasn't at their post. The music was pretty loud as if you were at a club. I couldn't even hear the person next to me talking. At least two of the drinks I wanted they didn't have, either something about the frozen machine wasn't working or they just ran out. Crazy because the drink I ended up getting was frozen, but no complaints about that. It was still good. Overall the experience was a good one. Vibes are pretty chilled. Even with three parties going on, the waitress was still attentive. I can see myself going back for the food or just a nice time out.

We decided to stop and eat here as we were driving through Baton Rouge back to Houston Service was good and attentive Food was bomb Definitely the best red beans & rice I’ve ever had. They had a nice, Smokey flavor. Music was enjoyable. Would definitely visit again

Food and drinks are good. There most likely will be a good wait in the evenings on the weekend. It is a very lively place. Very loud most of the time in there, but they have outdoor seating. The prices..... Well it's seafood so medium range.

I’m so disappointed. This place started out so well, and now the foods quality is terrible. My fries were fried so long it was tough like chicken skin. Everything tasted the same, like old grease.

The vibe was nice but they need better waiters. The waiters do not move with a sense of urgency and usually pay more attention to the men before even trying to serve the ladies. If you look on the receipt, you are charged gratuity on top of not even getting top quality service. I just think they hire pretty faces as waitress and do not care about quality service.

The food was delicious. Service was hit or miss as we waited a very long time for refills but they were very nice when they happened to be attentive. We had crawfish bread, Catfish Acadian, and a Half n Half fried platter of catfish and shrimp with a side of red beans. The beans were a bit bland but the rest were amazing. Highly recommend the food.

First visit there and we definitely will be back very soon also worth the drive too. The service was amazing!!!! Update: Second Visit---Food was great but on Sundays is more of a club like scene. Music blasting, people dancing all over, hookah amongst other things in the air 🍃. Oustide of the loud music there is definitely a vibe. Also there is a cover charge for men $20 and $10 for women. I've never experienced that at a restaurant. If we go back it will not be during the weekend. Food was seasoned to perfection and worth the money we spent.

Lively atmosphere. Crawfish were gooood and all you could ask for at a decent price. The sausage was cold in the middle though (hence the missing star), but everything else was great! They said there would be a 30 minute wait, but a couple minutes later they asked if we would like to sit outside and we said yes. There was nobody dining in the mostly covered area outside with bar access. They turned on the heater for us and we were very comfortable. We appreciated the friendly service :)

I am very disappointed, the seafood platter($ 35.95 )that I receive tonight had only 4 pieces of catfish 4 pieces of shrimp, no crawfish tails no damn cornbread and 4 pieces of oysters, 1 stuffed crab and 1 stuffed shrimp, 2 onion rings and mounds of fries. This platter should be renamed french fry platter because that was most of the platter( fries). People you all could do much better. THE food was over season and the macaroni and cheese was to salty. View comments to see pictures of the food. Roux 61 and Jack Dempsey's run circles around you guys. Take a look at their platters and prices ,the platters are much cheaper and more Seafood.

My husband and I shared a sea food platter that came with gumbo, red beans, and rice. It had plenty to eat on it. The cat fish wasn't cooked long enough on some of the pieces. I really enjoyed the hush puppies. My daughter had the catfish platter. It was a big plate. It would be enough for a large man to eat. She didn't eat much of it, but it looked good. It's too expensive for the quality of the food though. Our service was horrible. We had to wait a really long time for a table. The staff was very unorganized. Our waiter never came back after bringing us our food. No refill on our drinks, or anything. I had to ask a girl that was cleaning another table, to ask our waiter to bring us our ticket. When he came over, we asked him for the ticket, and to get our daughter a To Go container. He brought our ticket and the to go container and didn't come back. It was around 9:00 PM by this time. So we left the money in cash and the receipt on the table and walked out. As our first time to eat in a restaurant in Baton Rouge, it was a disappointment to say the least.

We went for lunch on Tues 4-10 after my Mothers funeral. There were 6 in our party. The music was so loud you couldn't really carry on a personal conversation. My husband ordered a gumbo for starters, it was very salty and tasted almost burnt. We ordered a Crawfish Nacho appetizer, it was tasty. My husband ordered the pot roast, it was a hunk of roast in a dish with some gravy, a side of mac and cheese. There was nothing to soak up the gravy. He asked for bread, as in a hunk of French bread etc, after quite a few times of reminding, he finally got a skinny bread stick. The mac and cheese was too greasy to eat. I got the red beans and rice. I couldn't eat it , it was too spicy. My Grandson got the shrimp po boy, it looked very good, they use jumbo shrimp. My daughter got the shrimp and grits, the cheese sauce on top was different but she said it was good. Another male in the party got the catfish with some type seafood sauce and broccoli under it, it must have been good because he made short order of it. My other daughter got the seafood potatoes, not so great, blobs of unmelted cheese that were difficult to deal with. The part that bothered us most was we were hardly checked on. I never did get a lemon for my water I requested, I got my husbands out of his tea finally. While we were there, early afternoon mind you, some song started playing saying the GD and Sh** word and they sort of changed it but, hey the Grandsons ears and mine were already messed up from that ...too late. You can't get the boiled stuff until after 5 pm. They put an automatic 18 % gratuity on your ticket, now had the waitress been attentive and brought stuff when we asked I would have added a good bit more , but, hubby didn't add anything. Doubt I will be back.

I truly enjoyed my food. I had wings which were awesome along with the corn grits which is by far the best I’ve ever had. I also ordered the jambalaya which i didn’t like (a bit on the salty side and more of a gravy rice type) but the bread that came with it was so good. With that being said I’ll recommend people here and i can’t wait to return.

If you want to eat it at the restaurant....call your order in an hour before you get there. I ended up having to get my order as a to go order more than an hour after placing it. They did give me a free little cup of gumbo after my wifes order got served to her very late and they realized someone dropped the ball. The food was good but when I have to pay full price for a meal I'd have to eat when I got back to Livingston. I'm not likely to return.

Great customer service, my wife and I ordered the seafood platter, the food was delicious, however $35 is wayy too pricey for 1 and 1/2 fish fillets cut into 4 strips, 4 oysters, 3 shrimp, and a stuffed crab served over a bed of fries to make one think that it's plate full of seafood...

We had 2 adults and 2 children. We ordered the chili glazed shrimp app and seafood platter. The food took awhile to come out but it was worth it. So much food. All seasoned and cooked well. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed. We will definitely be back.

Really disappointed today. The quality of food has declined tremendously. The value for your money was lacking as well. Shrimp and fries $20 .... fries tasted like they were under heat lamp. Etoufee was watery. I did let the server know and her service recovery was good. However it doesn’t replace quality food. I have always had good service here despite what I have heard others say. They did give us fresh fries but you could tell it’s time to change the grease!!

Food was great. We had 2 dozen dollar charhrilled oysters, a pound of shrimp, and crawfish. Everything was good and seasoned well. Sat at the bar while Hannah J. was behind it working and she gave great service. I never even had an empty drink. Best prices I've found in town too.

My 1st experience was tonight. The entire staff was friendly. Mr. Ken, one of the bartenders, was Awesome and knew how to make drinks. My only suggestions would be to hire someone to help manage the front as you enter. The owner personally greeted every table and that was exceptional. Great food and drinks. I do recommend this restaurant. Just remember to be patient because in the end, the food makes up for the wait.

There have been plenty of times that I’ve been here bc the food was good but hated the service, but last night definitely put this place in my tops! The ENTIRE staff was awesome! Ken at the bar made us the most awesome Ciroc Waves. He was personable and courteous! Ky wasn’t our bartender but she was just as hospitable! When the hostess came to get us for our table she personally walked us in and our waitress Marlene was there waiting to get our drink orders! She checked in with us often and the food was greeeeat and piping hot! The cook came out and checked on us as well. The owner came by to check on us. And Aunt Debbie was the best part of the whole night!!! Well... next to the diablo oysters lol

Excellent food, awesome vibe. Bartenders we one point, very friendly and made great suggestions. Had a ton of fun just hanging at the bar listening to the music.

We were in town for family reunion and had 30 in our party... They were shocked we had so many and they made every effort to accommodate our party. KUDOS FOR THAT! Once seated the server was Ok she needed help and another server assisted. The food was plentiful and very tasty. I enjoy the food and music and will come back in the near future
