This is the finest dive bar for great food in Baltimore. All ya gotta do is tell John to "just get you something for dinner." I mean, really. Don't need a menu. Asked John make me some tuna. Perfect. He was out of shrimp and just brought us a plate of muscles. Scrumptious. Chicken bites are second to none. Service is like family. Brianna is great. John is like a brother. You gott stop in here. Expect nothing and leave amazed. Debbie Long
Food and staff are great. Good enough to be featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. John the owner takes great pride in his food and it shows. Love that it's close but worth going out of your way.
This place is absolutely wonderful place for great casual, homemade Fresh good food! It's not your typical ' bar food" it's actually fresh chicken tenders with homemade sauces, if they're out of something it's cause they don't freeze anything!! The prices are VERY reasonable and the staff is extremely helpful well the bartender I had when I was there, it was her first night but she was very friendly, upbeat and helpful ( u believe her name is Kathy or Katie?). Her positive energy is infectious, you can't help but be to be happy!! I will be honest the building itself needs some work, but the food and drinks, staff and prices make up for it!! I will definitely be coming back, I am very impressed with the new bartender and if that's what she's like on her first night, she's gonna rock once she's trained and comfortable! Thank you John's Elmwood Tavern
The owners and employees of Johns Elmwood Tavern all rock!! And the food is amazing!!!! John makes an amazing steak that melts in your mouth. Never had a meal here that wasn't delicious and never had a night here that I didn't have fun and enjoy!! Definitely a spot you should check out!!!!
Good food and good people. Never feel unwelcome or out of place. The owners John and Missy are good people and John sure can cook. Never ate anything that I didn’t like at the Elmwood. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a cold drink, good food and nice people to talk to.
It's a bar that used to be a house so you get an at home feeling when you're there. The food is excellent and always cooked how you want it. The dinner specials are great to peek at too. Often you see the owner John either working the bar or cooking the food depending on the night.
My husband and I went to watch Orioles opening day game and John the owner introduced himself and told us about the free Nathan hotdogs being offered. the beer is cold, wine was chilled, friendly staff, always delicious food... must try the burgers and hand cut fries and John the owner... very, very friendly!

Very friendly, good service, atmosphere family friendly, neighborhood type bar but open to new comers. Prices are comparable to other bar/grill/tavern restaurants but better quality and taste good.
Great little place to eat at. Great food and atmosphere. It may not look like a five star restaurant, but John does his best to make the place as nice as possible.
Everyone who loves blue cheese dressing needs to try John & Missy's homemade blue cheese. Best ever! Never had a bad meal here..
I have been a patron of the Elmwood for about ten years, always enjoy the food and association with the owners who make it a habit of talking with all customers. Try the fried chicken sandwich, you will be happy!
Good food, good drinks. Great little dive bar with friendly staff! I will be back!
