I love Chinese food, and sample it wherever I go. I've been eyeing Uncle Lee's every time I visit Baltimore, so yesterday was the chance - for lunch. A little disappointed once inside - it is in need of renovation. Staff was very friendly and efficient, but it doesn't quite feel like a restaurant - maybe because of the bank-like building it is housed in.
The menu is the type I like - not too many choices (a problem with many Chinese restaurants), but still a nice variety. I ordered the spicy ginger beef w/water chestnuts and my friend ordered the eggplant. Both were very good as far as typical Chinese restaurants in the U.S., but still seems catered to tourists.
I would classify this place as definitely above average - probably excellent if you are looking for Chinese-American food, and not quite so if looking for something a bit more authentic. One thing - I did ask if my dish could be customized to be more spicy and less sweet, and they were happy to do that.
We came in a bit early on a rainy Baltimore summer evening. Service was friendly and the food was delicious. The dumplings, lo mein, egg rolls, and Kung pow beef that we shared were tasty. I'm not sure why there are several negative reviews, our waitress was very friendly and the food came out quickly.
Sentimental choice for sit down Chinese in Inner Harbor. (No experience with their delivery.) Excellent General Tso's tofu, good fried rice. Smaller portions than you might expect, but the food is great. Service is by a bunch of kind old Chinese ladies and gentlemen so be patient.
Excellent restaurant. Staff was delightful and friendly. I needed to charge my phone while eating and they sat me at a table with a plug. Food was really good. And prices are beyond reasonable. This place is going on my list to visit again next time im back in Baltimore.
Food was good, and they had some exotic dishes. Price was reasonable, and I had a good meal. The interior is nice looking, but it was deserted and dark (no lights were on). Made me feel a little awkward.
The food was amazing and the building was beautiful. The food was beautifully presented.
The jumbo shrimp with fresh mixed vegetables was really delicious, and lightly seasoned, which was perfect!! The restaurant was in a beautifully antique refurbished bank, and close to the Inner Harbor attractions.
Not sure why this place wasn't crowded on a Friday but I thought the food was great. Quality chicken used in the entrees and really good spicy pork. Kids loved the Lo Mein.
I went on a business trip for a week (from 10/13/2013~10/19/2013) staying at Marriot. I did my homework mapping out all Chinese Restaurant in that area. Uncle Lee's was the first Chinese Restaurant I visited because it was close to Marriot and within the SAFE walking distance.
For the entire week, I did not even try any other restaurant. The atmospher is cozy, the service is friendly, and the food is authentic. By the way, I am a Chinese American and whenever I go to a Chinese restaurant, I always ask if it has special dishes not listed on the manual
Highly recommended.
This is one of my absolutely favorite Chinese restaurants in the entire state of Maryland! The food was amazing, very affordable, and the staff is quite reasonable.
