Review Ruben's Mexican & Seafood Restaurant - Bakersfield

I had lunch here today with a couple of friends. This is a very nice, clean restaurant with excellent waiters. I ordered their lunch Tostada grande, you have choice of meat. I ordered chili verde, it was delicious, couldn’t eat it all. Another ordered enchiladas suizas, he said they were great. I also ordered their House Margarita on the rocks, they come in a 16oz glass, it was muy bueno. I can’t remember our waiter’s name-darn it, nevertheless, he did a outstanding job.

The best nachos ever! All their food is delish and they serve beans with their chips and salsa! Yum!!

The foods amazing, the drinks are great, the staff is friendly! Definitely recommend coming here.

Sunday evening seemed a bit slower in service, but also people, which was nice. Everyone enjoyed their food and it was clean inside. My daughter got the avocado chicken salad and it was huge! She enjoyed the salad and had left overs. Margarita was strong and in a tall glass, but tasted really good. One of the better margaritas I have had in town. Plus the bean dip and chips are always really good!

Very good Mexican fare, love the complementary bean dip with the chips n salsa, it's honestly the reason we usually choose it over the several other good Mexican spots nearby, and the affordable lunch specials. Update: I am deeply appreciative of the level of service being offered given the current circumstances. The food is as good as always, and the staff is some of the most friendly in town.

Brunch was great. Chili verde is awesome. Friendly staff and the price was right.Will return and recommended for you to visit this place on Callaway.

Ruben's has been my choice for about 8 years now, after discovering it and trying the restaurant after talking to the owner. I told him the Chili Verde had to be something special. Ruben then said that "we were going to be good friend's."

The food here is always good. The kids love the bean dip. The service is always excellent. They have something for everyone here.

So this applies to the Gosford location as I haven't been to the Rosedale location, but.... Ruben's has ruined all other mexican food restaurants for me. As an avid lover of a good margarita, chips and salsa and mexican food in general, Ruben takes the cake. Our servers are the best! Fun, chatty and overall great service. Our food, always amazing! It's a weekly (if not more) stop for us. All of the servers are great but a special shout out to Jake, Carlitos, Paco and pancho. They always have an amazing attitude and superior service

Big fan of Ruben’s, been going here for a while now.. Awesome food and great staff..! Can’t go wrong with any of the menu items.. My personal favorite is the carne azada plate! 😋

We have been here few times, but every time we go the service is really bad and the food takes forever. Tried their brunch once it wasn’t bad but the food was cold. There have been a few times I have went in and took my lunch to go. NOTHING on the menu that says that their lunch specials are for “dine in” ONLY! I have never had a problem until today! I walked in, told the guy I needed to place an order to go. He hands me the menu and I told him what I wanted and he says “oh we have a different menu and that the lunch menu is just for dine in.” He asked if I had time to eat there? Don’t you think if I had the time I would?! I told him that it was never a problem before. He took my order and I waited. As I was waiting minding my own business this other guy comes out. Pretty sure he’s the manager maybe the owner. He kept looking at me like he wanted to say something. Sure enough in a very rude way he says, “we will do this for you this time but no more,” I went ahead and ignored him as he kept running his mouth. I got up, told him don’t talk to me that way and to cancel my order. He acted shocked! Says “he wasn’t rude and he’s just telling me how it is and I can’t always have things my way” oh did I mention he is yelling this at me as I’m walking outside to my car? YES! He followed me outside!! As I’m getting into my vehicle I did yell back “I’ll make sure I give you a bad yelp review!” So to the manager or owner of this business, this is not how you should be doing business!! You don’t talk to your customers let alone a women like this!! I hope you are reading this! I will also make sure none of my family or friends ever go into your business again!!

Chile verde is amazing, rice and beans also great. Shredded beef tacos, salsa and bean dip also fabulous, but seriously disappointed in the traditional red enchilada sauce - no taste whatsoever, like it came from a can. Suizas sauce however was flavorful and very good. Just avoid that reddish sauce and you'll have a good food experience. Service however is another story. We always go when it's light, but one particular server we get stuck with each time and she's terrible. While our drinks sit empty or we've been done with our meal for 20 min waiting on the check we see this person goofing off with other staff or sitting at a table doing literally nothing. It's so bad we have to ask anyone who walks by to help us instead. Food is good, but service makes it a better option to order the food to-go.

We enjoyed Ruben's the service was super, my plate was good there were 14 of us and all went smooth. No one complained.

They are best Mexican restaurant in town Ruben the owner and his family and staff are the best

Staff here is amazing! Food is always good. Sunday Brunch is a little expensive and adds up fast with a large group, but, the staff is perfection!
