We stopped by here with friends. My wife had the Mesquite Smoked Chicken Sour Cream Enchiladas with Goat Cheese and loved it. I had the Grilled Steak and Goat Cheese Enchiladas and also loved it. Our friends both had the Black Bean Garlic Smoked Chicken Breast, which they had both had before, and also really loved it. We also had three desserts to finish, Homemade Key Lime Pie, Decadent Dark Chocolate Torte and House Specialty Flan, all really good. The service matched the quality of the food, so we were all happy. They charge Bainbridge prices, which are higher than other areas, but that is to be expected.
This is one of my favorite restaraunts. It's a frequent birthday dinner destination. The margaritas are the best I've had in Washington and the food is wonderful. I have a hard time venturing out from the crab chimichanga which is always great, but everything else on the menu has been amazing as well. I highly recommend San Carlos!
It's the best Mexican on BI. The drinks are great. If you can get a peach margarita in the summer you will be very lucky. The chips are great. The burritos and fajitas are my favorite. It's a cool place run by really great people. It's not cheap, but no place on Bainbridge is. You won't be disappointed.

My favorite childhood restaurant!. I have been going to San Carlos with my family for as long as I can remember. The staff is so nice and the service is great! I
've tried just about every dish on the menu and I don't understand how people can say it's bad food. If you want mexican food, take it to the rojas. San Carlos is a Southwestern style restaurant with not so typical "mexican" dishes.
The owner Lee Jorgenson created the recipes for every dish himself with knowledge from traveling through the southwest and doing lots of research.
I recommend that if you are planning to come in on a weekend night or if you have a large party of 6 or more, that you make a reservation, otherwise there could be a wait.
And one thing people need to remember is that it is a small restaurant with a small kitchen. On busy nights it will take longer to get meals out.
I've also experienced their catering, it is absolutely wonderful!
All in all, I love San Carlos and recommend it to anyone wanting some good service and some great food!

Absolutely the best fajitas I have ever had. Wonderful staff. Very friendly and welcoming. When I asked for a box, they even made an extra margaritas to go. These guys are above and beyond. Absolutely recommend and will definitely come back. Thank you.
I love the ambiance here and the food is consistently high quality and well prepared. I found the service to be attentive and kind. I suspect some of the other reviewers are from big cities and used to being rushed out the door. Relax folks, and enjoy your time on the island.

Love love love this restaurant! I hear folks complain about slow service, but this is a restaurant with a very intimate setting. I want that slower service that comes with the ambiance! We always get to chat and catch up almost as if we are at home eating dinner. Such a relaxing place! If you are into slow service and a great place to eat some amazing food, visit San Carlos. Btw. I'm not much into Mexican food, but this blows away everywhere else I've eaten by far. San Carlos sets the standard with their Carne Asada! Believe me, the wait is worth it.
Just found this great local gem....very clean....wonderful staff....and menu is great! Sit outside or inside...a great local Bainbridge Island place...my new favorite.

Service was "over the top". Food & drinks were excellent. We are visiting from Arizona, so we have experienced great Mexican food. San Carlos is among the best. I was very pleasantly surprised to find Mexican food this good in this area of the country. Our server was Kara. I recommend San Carlos.
